Learning what NOT to tinker with on our sailboat - Ep 187
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 19 май 2024
- We sail to two last favourite spots in the beautiful British Virigin Islands before sailing to the US Virgin Islands, Spanish Virgin Islands of Puerto Rico and along the northern coast of Puerto Rico into the San Juan inlet. We encounter big seas, even bigger neighbours, witness a sailboat dragging and break down our provisioning process as we prepare for 3 months in the Bahamas. We learn what happens when one becomes a bit too handy and we encounter issues with the freezer thermostat, just as we are provisioning and stocking up food for 3 months in the Bahamas.

Steph you are good in the kitchen, organized and appear to be a great cook! That’s a major blessing for you all.
Beautiful!
Travis- sometimes knowledge comes the hard way. Easy fix, hopefully it wasn't too pricey.
14:47 😅 “Ugh Travis..” you tell him Steph 😂 when Travis breaks character
Lol
Great episode guys ‼️ 🎉. I can see why going into San Juan one must pay attention. OMG 😱 WOW, that's a ton of surf breaking on the shore ‼️ Thanks for the guidelines on 3-month provisioning. Good to know a good plan sequence. 👍🏻😊 See you next time. ✨ 🌊 💨 ⛵️ 🏝️ 👙 🌞 ✨
Always enjoy watching these videos and adventures. Looking to absorb and learn as much as I can along the way. You are both a super fun couple to learn from! "Testing Steph's cooking skills"? Ha, thinking the "Next Top Chef" shows are amateures. I mean can any of them make such meals while underway? Perhaps Gordon Ramsay should add a rolling floor to a special, suprise challenge session or something. Stephanie can judge them and Travis can throw them overboard when they fail:-) I really liked the additonal discussion on provisioning. It's helpful to hear and learn to get one's mind in line with what to expect. Also loved the fridge discussion. Learned that would change properties and why the fridge would no longer read correctly. Your provisioning looks better than my house at the moment. I need to do my Sunday shopping before my kiddos make me walk the plank🙂
Good job kids...safe sail....lookin good Steph...
Awesome. I love the under water footage.
Another great video
Groovy episode.
I like your background music this week with the twangy guitar Great video thanks!!
Travis, don’t break the freezer ok ?
A great video as always!
❤ from 🇨🇦 BC
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great video!
Glad you enjoyed it
I read that its best to freeze your pasta, flour, and rice for 2 days to kill the weevils. You have put them in airtight bags (Ziplock or reusable bags) to prevent them from absorbing moisture as then come back to room temperature and to keep the humid air out while sailing. You could also install a 2nd fridge for flours and sugars. If in fridge then put sugar in air tight bag to keep it from drying out into a hard lump.
Exiting things coming!!! Back to the Bahamas!!!!!
So excited!!!😆
nice job on the vid. you guys got the youtube thing dialed in so keep it up. another three hundred vids and you'll have numbers like Sailing Uma, who has 500 vids and 99 million views. 😉
Huge provisioning...40% Doritos...you gotta luv it!
😂
Fore the weevils a kitchen vacuum baggier stops them cold. A vacuum packing bag fore your clothes does both shrinking and keeps them from mildew and moulding. Your clothes smell the same as they went in to the gag. :)
We use those for clothes yes
get a shrink wrap machine......got one a few months ago.....it is a great tool, no freezer burn, easier to place in freezer, faster defrost in warm water......got mine from Temu for about 12 dollars works fine.....another great video....cheers
Vacuum sealer. Must have.
I have found diving in the Bahamas if you take the stuff that you normally throw away in the garbage after you eat chicken or fish or a beef rib or something use it when you're driving you'll be amazed how the official just crunch that stuff up
Steph, great utilization of space! I guess you have to get creative with what's available! how do you remember where the hell you put everything? lol!
Certain things are kept together, but every now and again there’s still a decent search that goes on!
Storage is a must I see, what would be a great thing to have on a sailboat to make life easier?
You can never have enough space
oh yeah most of the small Bahama Islands yes the food prices are high but Abaco Grand Bahama are usually about the same price as the United States or cheaper
Hey guys well Abaco Island has a huge Market there huge Market that has really good deals on stuff they get fresh eggs from a local woman that has great hands and eggs are wonderful and they have some really good deals on bulk food also. And if you're going to Bahamas I would recommend Abaco Islands and Marsh Harper's where the market is on the northern part of Abaco Way North and some of the best fishing in the Bahamas and Diving
Thanks for the tips!
I can't believe you're selling!!?? So curious to reasons why and what boat you're switching to. Wish I was ready to buy!
Pretty sure they said sail,,, not sale😅😅
Wow what a mission to stock up. Suppose we are lucky, being house bound, we internet shop and deliver to our house, otherwise living in a small coastal village, we would be stuffed.❤
@@DavidTheMechanic actually they are considering selling the boat they listed it online a couple days ago, and they posted it on the Facebook groups
@@tjpenton wow that's incredible... I didn't know... thanks for the update
@@tjpenton I can't find a listing for it, where did they list it?
Loved the swim through’s. I was curious, what camera are you using?
Insta360 x3. Details are in the description box :)
what are your summer plans? GRENADA?
Heading up the east coast. For now anyway
Is that a mini Rockna anchor holding up your freezer lid?
It’s a Lewmar anchor
I hope they are, or soon will be a Sponsor.
You guys eat too m!😂
You need a vacuum sealer they are great and not to expensive, Canadian Tire has them for sale this week $67.99 get your family to get you one and mail to your next port.
Wish it was that easy. sending things overseas with taxes/duties/agents can make things quite complicated while cruising. Not to mention actually finding an address and timing it since we move so quickly
That was good, Pretty too…
And, Oh No.. Not the Bahamas 🇧🇸…!!!
Well I guess if you're able to fix your mistake that's not that big of a deal
They only remember the cock-ups, don't they. They know who they are.
What did you do about recharging the refrigerant?
It was just the thermostat so that wasn’t needed
Is that a new boat? Or a used one? What brand is it?
It’s a 1990 Hunter passage 42
Why has Canada banned the Chick-fil-a sauce?
Not the chick-fil-a sauce but a number of other items we’ve seen! I don’t think they even have the chick-fil-a sauce in Canada? (At least not while we were there) but other stuff has been banned bc of diff food standards
Why have items been banned from Canada's grocery shelves.
Different food standards
@@SailingJibsea Ah I see, thank you for the reply.
I mean out side of Candana embracing totalitarian government, why are food banned?
Shouldn’t you guys be getting married eh’.
We should?
And having beautiful babies! Society is doomed cause nobody is anymore! lol seriously though
Why don't you make pasta yourself? It is very easy to do and only needs 00 pasta flour.
Dry pasta is easier to store than bags of flour that all need to be placed in air tight drums so I keep what I use for baking bread only, which takes a significant amount. Also eggs are very expensive when you can find them so we prioritize what to use them with.
How’s inflation effecting your life style?
The same way it’s affecting everyone else id imagine
