- A Discussion around the Omega Seamaster Professional and the Legendary MilSpec MOD 165.024. In partnership with Chrono24, the video looks into the popularity of the Modern Seamaster, covers the history of the Professional diver and points to the probability of us seeing the "Big Triangle" 300 released in the near future. The question to ask is: Why hasn't Omega released this watch yet?

Slow hand clap.....bravo, fantastic, Omega open your ears and listen to this man please!
You can never be sure who is watching BUT sometimes the algorithm works in mysterious ways ;) Thank you for the comment, brother
Couldn't agree more !
The reissue would skim instantly to the top of my wish list, and stay there until satisfied.
And just imagine it's potential in the MilSpec watch category? Few come close ;) Ah, we can all dream and thank you for the comment John!
Congrats on the really smart partnership with Chrono 24. Glad to see you being recognized as a valuable channel and talent. Keep up the great work.
It really is a pleasure to partner with the team. We've worked on another video in the past about Oyster Perpetuals, but this was a great departure. Now more than ever it feels like the interest in Omega Divers has reached an all-time high. Thank you as always Turbo! Got a few nice surprises on the way to share in the next few weeks ;)
Agree 👍
@@ID-Guy Psyched to see you get access to the goods. Amazing vids on the way I'm sure!
I hope so. What a classic. I am one of those vintage reissue lovers.
I just think about what this watch could compete with and surpass in this category (like the Blancpain Military reissues etc) Thank you as always for the comment, Chris!
Same here
Great to see the channel grow and you getting the respect and recognition you deserve 👍
Thank you as always Junior! Chrono24 and I have done a video together in the past and they are a great team to work with. Thanks for watching the clip - I'm sure you're also one who'd be dreaming of seeing this piece realised ;)
Yet another great Seamaster video. Thanks!
I have a Watchco SM300 and it's almost the perfect watch. I would buy this in a heart beat!
Hopefully, Omega has a team reviewing this video and putting your ideas into reality soon. It would be an instant sensation! Another brilliant video, brother! Keep up the great work!
Thanks a million Chaz! All we can do is hope that this clip does make the rounds (and reaches the right people) It would be such a dream to see the OG back in action. Have an excellent weekend, brother!
You are a master at this. Well done! You make us proud back home. Keep up your great work, and soon you’ll be with one of the big ones as the new designer 👌. Stay safe and hope you have a long pleasant summer 😁
Very comprehensive seamaster video. One of Omega's best line ups.
Possibly the best and most Informative episode I’ve watched in a long time! Really enjoyed it and appreciated it. Feeling a lot of love for Omega at the moment and really enjoying the latest SMP 300. Wonder whether the Seamaster will develop a following as strong as the Submariner? Keep up the great work!
great video, congrats, I share with you the love for omega !!!
90% of watch brands: do their homework and innovate, while focusing on quality
Rolex: copies many of the advancements and calls them their own while they release palm dials, and calls it bold
Sadly that's the case. So many bought patents and no boundary pushing (unless done by third parties) - but hey, they do focus on quality pretty well. Gotta give it to them that their machining and tolerances are very tight...apart from the few that get away ;)
Ha ha...... bold is a cool word though....ha ha. Very true, and I love Rolex, but ......
yes yes yes your renditions look amazing
Thanks a million Alex! It feels so right to ground the model again. Here's hoping we see something that resembles it one day!
Love your perspective.
I hope they do this. I watched your previous video on the 2254 and I spent a year looking and found a 10/10 perfect example in Sydney Australia, just a beautiful example of Omega style, great video as always, 👍👍
Can't believe how much has changed since that old 2254 video... It's crazy. But I'm so glad you took your time when finding the correct model! Congratulations Steven! Isn't it amazing how international this hobby of our is? All the way from Sydney... and thank you for the comment!
It's an absolute mystery why Omega hasn't brought this design back. Here is what I wrote on the Revolution channel, when they interviewed Raynal Aeschlimann.
If Mr Aeschliman is reading this, here is what this watch collector and enthusiast of 20+ years would like to see:
- a Seamaster 300 based on the design of the reference 165.024
- dimensions: 42mm diameter, 47mm lug to lug, total thickness no more than 13mm
- lyra shaped lugs and asymmetric case
- screw down crown
- ceramic bezel graduated for every minute with the numbers 5, 10, 15, etc. filled with lume and thin font as the first versions of the 165.024
- sword design for the hours hand, baton design for the minutes hand, tear drop shaped seconds hand
- caliber 8912
- sea monster engraved case back
- bracelet design based on the 1039 and 516 end piece with 20mm at the lugs and solid construction
- clasp including a dive extension and easy micro-adjustment of 2 steps, each 3mm apart (allowing for position 0, +3mm, +6mm)
This would be pretty amazing.
I made this very watch a couple of years ago by ordering all the new parts direct from Cousins with the exception of the movement which was sourced from a donor watch. All in the cost was circa £900. Beautiful watch.....
Thank you so much for this fantastic overview of the seamasters. I love the Vintage Line and I think there is already a modern classic available when you think of the shown 2254500 (11:45 timeline). Its such a well balanced watch, has a military look and a timeless Design. Its highly collectable and I think the prizes will go up for this model because there arent so many on the market and, like the submariner for Rolex, I hope it will be an icon someday for Omega. A true classic! Thanks for mentioning!
Wouldn't that be a fantastic thing. I would buy it in a heart beat. Omega you need to see this - build it and the buyers will come!
Another outstanding video IDGuy! If Omega ever made this version of the Seamaster, I would buy it in a heartbeat.
Always a joy to bring these videos out Blueshirt and thank you for the continual support, brother. Can you imagine how much of a dent this watch could make? Have an excellent weekend, sir!
This is the first video which nails why I bought the 2254.50 perfectly:same design details, svelte case, white markers (rather than the ugly aged lume). Even when faced with the option to buy the modern Seamaster, I passed because high polish and ceramic don’t belong on a tool watch. I can see Omega re-releasing this model but I’m concerned that they’ll go crazy with aged lume, massive sizing, and ceramic. Only time will tell
I know a few owners who've shared the exact sentiment around the 2254 ;) It's a class act and thank you for this, brother. All we can do for now is dream (and protest a bit on the sidelines haha!)
Sapphire bezel is the way to go. You get scratch resistance but closer to the original in appearance.
Fantastic video! I have the PO 39.5 (black) & just recently purchased a CWC MOD 1980 reissue because of the design language. I hope Omega brings this back into their lineup with a 8900 movement.
Loved this one,
Just a coincidence, got a new old 2nd translational seamaster 300 ( 14755 ) from early 60’s last week and was looking for relevant content and here you go and do the finest job, thank you!
A big triangle or actually any 300 reissue would be a really good choice I think.
What a pickup! I've never seen a 14755 in the flesh before but what a machine, Alon! Congratulations! Wouldn't it be amazing to see the 165's realised? Ah, we can dream. Thank you so much for the comment as always and congratulations again!
This is why I love my first Gen 42mm Planet Ocean 2500 with matte black dial/black bezel and white tri arabics "love the open 6 and 9 font" it takes so much of it's design from the classic Omega diver's of the late 60's while still being of modern construction, I've only grown to appreciate this model more over the years, I think it's the best looking of all of the PO's and one of my favorite divers, granted yes I'm bias but I love the design and enjoy my watch. Love your work IDGuy.
Fantastic video. So fantastic that it probably made my search for an excellent 2254 more expensive.
I’d buy a 165.024 reissue day one. I’ve even been tempted by the CWC 1980 RN reissue, but if @IDGuy has anything to say about it, I’ll be going with the Omega in the, hopefully, near future.
Thanks again.
Yes please - i would LOVE this as a re-release!
Great video, fingers crossed Omega
Thanks a million, Jerome!
Great documentary 👏 professional comparison, hope Omega may manufacture that Seamaster vintage revival !
Great collaboration with Chrono24. How cool would that be if Omega did listen and produced and MOD remake like this - 👌
If we play our cards right and keep the pressure on we might see something ;) Just think of it's potential to surpass models like the impossible-to-own Blancpain Military models? Thanks as always, Mark! I hope you've had an excellent week!
The Watchco Seamasters are showing the market potential for years. They basicly doubled in value and are on the price level of a new PO. If Omega is willing to do a reissue it should be done right. No fauxtina, closed caseback, thin profile with a flat style bracelet. Otherwise CWC remains the best alternative.
Great video! My enthusiasm for buying an Omega dive watch has always been dampened by the comparison to this reference. Nothing has come close except the relatively recent 300 releases. The temptation to buy a CWC has been strong, but I’ve decided to hold out in hopes that Omega reissues this in the future.
Very nicely said. I think there would be many enthusiasts out there (not only Omega lovers) who would get such a kick out of this model. It's so unique. In a way we could compare it's coolness next to the Speedmaster professional. Here's hoping we see something soon and thank you for the comment, brother!
@@ID-Guy Thank you for creating such inspiring conversations through video and your emphasis on design. I think you really have your finger on the pulse of a large portion of collectors.
I would love to see a remake of the MOD 165.024.
Great video, I love omega
A brand that's near and dear to my heart as well (always will be) Thank you for the comment Miguel!
Bravo 🎉
I have always loved the Seamaster 300m Chronograph.
Absolutely agree! Best looking watch ever!
For now i’d just have to settle and be happy with my 2254
2254 is my favourite piece
Shooting up in value
@@evh4611 the 2254?
@@3082103 Seamaster 2254.50 yes
Just get the Helson Sharkmaster 300, incredible homage to "Big Trinagle" Seamaster. A work of art that costs $730, although hard to get as all stocks are sold almost immediately.
I hope Omega decide to produce this, I may even start saving up for one now as I'd certainly want one on my wrist if or when it''s released. Many thanks IDGuy for the education and history of the Seamaster line.
My pleasure as always Anthony! Here's hoping this clip is seen by the right people who could make this idea a reality ;)
@@ID-Guy I certainly hope so. This could be a big win for Omega.
Great video and story! Love divers and own the latest Seamaster 300m and Submariner. I would buy this remake instantly.
Definitely would be my first in line for a dive watch. Modern Certina DS PH200M Heritage looks similar. I love your mock up. What makes it is the stark contrast between black and white.... so striking... Listen up Omegaaaaaaa
Great video! Totally agree. This watch executed just as it is with all the modern attributes Omega has to offer will be a recipe to success! Omega, are you listening?
Count me in. Amazing
I am sure Omega is listening. Nice video
All we can do is keep putting the ideas out there and hope that something slips through the cracks. Thank you as always Cedar!
couldn't make them fast enough....MAKE THEM AGAIN..!!!
Thank you for this Kurt! All we can do is hope (and protest) ;)
Agree completely. I would buy one. I had even written to Omega to ask them to please revive it!
It's so great to know that there's a large group of enthusiasts who collectively feel the same way! Thank you for this, brother!
Woah! Hey Omega! Pay attention! Leave the HE valve at home too
Love it! ;)
Yes, absolutely 😍 pretty much perfect. My grail is 2254, I like the HEV and wavy dial. Great episode - wakey wakey Omega, listen to this Gentleman and you will have a sales tsunami on your hands!!! (& I'll be selling a kidney 😂)
Thanks IDGuy, really enjoyed this one. Cheers mate 👍🏻👍🏻
Great video ID 😁👍👍I think Omega has a once in a life chance to get its mojo back, before losing it for ever to Tudor. I think it would be a great success if they keep it simple, balanced and comes with multiple strap options but an impeccable bracelet as well.
Thank you Abdul! It would be such a slam dunk of a release if it ever happened (and would also dwarf a lot of divers in more expensive categories at the same time) All we can do is hope and hope and hope ;)
I wish and hope they bring it back. In the mean time, pretty happy with quality homages from a variety of brands. I like what Helson offers in their Shark Master line. I believe Borealis has had similar in the past. I think they might be making some more soon
But, Omega will likely release a MOD style again. They definitely not afraid to tap into their last and bring them back.. they've been doing it. Sooner or later, this will be back.
Great video. I am pretty sure that it's in their projects, I guess they have long term plans and are maybe waiting for other models to become less popular with time? Their catalogue is very large already.
Anyway, let's be patient and full of hopes!
And in the meantime, I enjoy my 2254 which is my real tool watch, a true masterpiece difficult to appreciate only in pictures. I actually didn't like it until I saw it... and I love your video about it!!!)
They become more and more expensive, I'd advise people to find one before it's too crazy unfortunately :-(
I found a 2000's catalogue of Omega and to my surprise the Peter Blake variations were the true Omega diver, with only a small space for the Bond model. There were lots of variations, very hard to find now.... but very interesting.
Thanks again for your content.
Suggestion for a next vid: old Breguet Marine 5817; I just got one and from a design standpoint it's outstanding, with a. huge number of details.
Great video and great watch. I'd also love to see this being created. Only caveat is that I'd prefer the version with the 12 at the top.
Depending on the size I would buy an MOD recreation in a heart beat 👍
God damn right , I just bought a Watch Co, don’t have it yet, went straight to service. Should receive June 23
Excellent and very informative Video....Thank you.....I have owned a Helson Sharkmaster "Big Triangle" 300 (ETA 2824) for some years now, a beautiful Homage to the Omega MOD Seamaster, and it is an absolute Gem, I,ll never part with it. It would be fantastic to see Omega re-release the original MOD Model.
You read my mind. I don’t own an Omega but would buy this in a heartbeat. None of their current offerings quite so it for me, and I’m not prepared to spend $5,000+ for a watch I just kind of like.
Totally rethinking my opinion on the modern vintage watches even the fauxtina part. Whenever I see a video that showcases all the vintage beauties I run to chrono to check prices. Then I consider the operating costs, fragility... Watches like the BB58 and the Seamaster 300, Oris 65, do such a good job of capturing the vibe. Hopefully Omega will do this watch... Very well scripted video. ID never disappoints us.
very interesting - the new sandwich dial is on my wish list
It's great to see how they've evolved the idea of the new 300 while making it look more old-school at the same time. Thank you as always for the comment, brother!
If Omega will bring this to market, it‘ll be an instant buy for me 👍🏻
You and me both, man. It would shoot right to the top of my list (and many others) ;) Thank you for the comment!
Well done, even though I own a WatchCo 165.024 I would buy the re-issue in a second.
Best watch video in 2021
Humbling, Jack. Thank you so much, brother! Here's hoping this clip is seen by the right people for the job ;)
Great presentation as always IDG, so would you envision this as another iteration in the Seamaster range or potentially replacing the SMP? I mean I wonder about the fact that they already have layers upon layers under the Seamaster range, with so many SKUs accordingly. If they made the Aqua Terra and Railmaster their own separate lines that would help I suppose. Their website is a labyrinth. Congrats on the colab!
A labyrinth is putting it mildly ;) There was a great suggestion in the comments that they could release it as a variant of the Planet Ocean line, like the "PO Military" or just the "Seamaster Military". I'll admit, there are many ways they could integrate the idea. Regardless, something tells me it would be their hottest seller by a landslide (maybe surpassing the likes of the SMP if done right) pretty crazy to think, right? And thank you for the great comments as always Michael! Chrono24 and I worked on a video a few months back (I think in December) and they're a always great team to work with
Baby Ploprof, it would be my favorite. Thanks for your dedication
That would also be an excellent prospect. Shrinking down the modern example into a more manageable size. Similar to what they did the the MK2 Speedmaster reissues a few years back. They have so much opportunity to expand their lines. And thank you for the comment David!
@@ID-Guy Thank you for your excellent work, needless to say that I love your vids. Let's keep our fingers crossed for any reissue of the great mentioned vintage models.
Nice video. I agree. Go for it Omega. But it should keep the mix of yellow and white as on the vintage models. It should not be just black and white as suggested. The Seamaster 300 Spectre has some of this same great look and feel, but is very expensive
nice securing of chrono24 bag
We've done a collab in the past and they really are a great team to work with! Thank you, brother ;)
Thank You for this Great and very informative Review. This is my GRAIL piece over, dare i say, Any rolex. If Omega were to remake this, I would definitely find a way to acquire one. Prices for vintage MOD 165.024 (big triangle) are exorbitantly out of my range. Would be very cool if Omega re-released this at a sub 10K price range.
This would be an amazing reissue! I would love to see a video in which you explain the design aesthetics of how cases and bracelets work together. To my eye, some watches just don't look right when you take them off their original bracelet while others seem to work on everything. I know this might just be a matter of personal preference, but I'd like to know if I am picking up on something more than that. For example, the Seamaster MOD looks like it would work well on anything: bracelet, nato, canvas, etc. I think the SKX and the Speedy are other examples of this same phenomenon. On the flip side, there are other watches like the Seiko Monster, the Rolex 16570, and several of the other maxi case Rolexes that just don't look right to my eye on anything other than the bracelet. I would love to hear your thoughts. Thanks for the great content!
Great point Nick and funny, I've been battling with this whole idea for a while too! Try as I might, the Seamaster 57 in the video is always on its bracelet. The others I have in the collection all are either on Rubber, Leather or Nylon (and the colours & styles of the materials all depend on the watch) This is well worth making a video around and thank you for the idea (glad I'm not the only one) ;)
@@ID-Guy Great point about the Seamaster 57! Especially next to the 62 MAS. I look forward to it!
I would run to my AD to buy this🙌🏻
I find myself drawn to Rolex for their everyday pieces, such as the Datejust and the Explorer. When it comes to dive watches, however, my preference will always be with Omega. If they actually re-release the MOD Seamaster, I will sprint to an Omega AD to pick one up.
I feel exactly the same way Aiden, come to think of it! What a great point you bring up around this! I have such a respect for Omega dive watches, but also enjoy the character that models like the Exp & Exp2 have in the Rolex camp. Brilliant. Thank you for the comment!
It's a perfect design that would certainly wear brilliantly on a modern wrist
This just came into my possession from my Uncle Iain's to me. Seamaster 300 St.165.024 562cal. now on a Reptile/Leather Omega strap band originally on a Omega Rice beaded type of steel bracelet. Family legacy passing. I do believe it's the 1st. generation type.
YES!
Get it done Omega! No Faux Patina please 🙏 Nice vid, cheers 👍
Instant buy
@idguy congrats on the Chrono24 talent read... glad you’re getting monetized 👍🏻
Thank you brother! We've partnered on a video in the past (around the Oyster Perpetual) and they're an excellent team to work with, always very open to ideas and topics
Yeesssss!! Do it Omega!!!
P.S. NO faux patina!!
Gotta keep the white and black dial contrast strong! Isn't it funny that we have to tell companies NOT to use faux patina on their dials nowadays?
@@ID-Guy exactly! I’m not buying an older reference for the patina... I’m buying it because it’s an amazing reference!! Make it again !!
It has been my question for my entire life, it’s my grail watch. Why Omega does not produce anymore the best diver of all times, an instant classic, the only serious competitor of the Rolex Sub, the only Omega icon in addition to the Moonwatch? It was you the only one to intercept it, I’m astonished by our tuning. Emotioned. Best watch channel, we share the same soul and esthetic vision bro! Hugs from Italy, Davide
Agree, they should never have stopped making this reference
One of my favourite watches. If they do it in the right way, at a proper price, I will buy it. Already indicated the 165024 as my top watch in the chrono24 giveaway ✌🏼🤘🏻
Making double use of the competition, I like it! ;) Here's hoping that this video / idea travels to the brand. Thank you for the comment Giacomo!
@@ID-Guy Thanks. In love with this watch since highschool, but the prices are too high right now for one in good conditions. Really hope for a remake
Dear OMEGA, As a Ploprof in steel owner, i would buy this watch if it was re made with ceramic luminous bezel, master co axial movement and NO faux patina. I think a re issue like yhis would be a success. Great video ID guy ! Thanks
Great watch. I would even like this and the ploprof as the only two omega divers in their portfolio.
It would make such a cool pairing in your collection, brother. I just can't stop thinking about the potential of this watch as a competitor against the Blancpain Military models etc. There's almost too much opportunity to make a killing with these pieces ;)
@@ID-Guy it's a real tragedy. There is so much historical and design potential in the brand name of omega, yet all we get is another speedmaster "[choose a colour] side of the moon".
One of your best! The Seamaster dive line certainly justifies further development by Omega. I think the PO is the platform for delivering this classic aesthetic (aside from a straight recreation a la Trilogy 300, which FWIW, obv, I'd support!): The PO-MOD?! The PO shares similarities of form (case, proportions), if not size - if it adopted the classic sword hands, it would be close. I think to be a big seller, the POMOD would need to gain refinements the modern market demands (applied markers principally). I also think the MOD is over marked and it's triangle 12 and minute batons could tone down. Seamaster dials/hands were a bit hectic. Coherent, but a lot of energy in those sharps and spikes! Im a big fan of the 165.014's dial and simple hands - I think a great inspiration for future SM300s.
But, I absolutely agree with your Speedy Pro parallel: Omega need to establish a conservative, classic bedrock to their ranges that they can supplement with characteristic, frothy special editions throughout the product run (injecting sales and maintaining exposure). But, their ranges do need grounding. The original PO was heading in that direction, but subsequently has become a little sugary, with no anchor model. I agree that a toughened up, mid-size PO, housing the latest calibre movement and sporting the key cues of the MOD would be fantastic. And as the Sea Dweller has lost its roots with a cyclops wart and the 50F grown too massive, such a Seamaster could do well in the market. But, I suspect we'll be seeing new POs before too long! 2022, surely?
I reckon many would love an example like the 164.014 in a professional case. Those pencil hands and cleaner looking dial would be excellent! Great insights here James. Especially like your thinking around how it could be integrated as the "grounded" model, going back to basics. AND just imagine the watch sticking it to the likes of the Fifty Fathoms Military (a watch that we'd all love to be a mainstay, but never is released over a batch of 500 pieces) - From a business point of view, competitively and when looking at what a dent this model could make, I feel it would be such a smash hit. Thank you for all of this James!
@@ID-Guy Absolutely! If only Omega (and Blancpain, JLC, IWC, Panerai...) would take commissions and pitches! Totally agree about the 50F - why no paired back 40mm? Seems perverse, but hey - they're a watch company, hence loftier ambitions than merely producing a nice watch!
The best watch. Would love a reissue. Listen up, Omega.
Just stumbled across this. Yes, I’d love a reissue as well - however I’m more drawn to the 166.024 - I missed one in excellent condition for a very reasonable price earlier this year and can’t stop thinking about it (when I’m thinking about watches, that is 😉). I think that’s the closest I’ll come to a „grail“ watch.
I have a beautiful 1969 166.024 (so the date version) and it's probably my favorite watch, even more than my vintage Rolex Submariner and Explorer II.
God I’d hope so. Its the one I’m holding out for . Over the Pelagos and planet ocean . Omega make it !!! Take my money
Agreed. I'd happily add this alongside my Seamaster 57 as a duo. The OG and the Greatest ;) Thank you for all the comments, Z Man!
I want one!
Thank you JB! You and many more of us ;)
In. a. heartbeat.
I have been waiting for this reissue for a few years already. I have the 2254 but i would without a blink buy it if they reissue the mod
I would be at the AD the day it's released. Omega just needs to do this right; true to the original design and size, no fauxtina, and not a hockey puck thickness like the Planet ocean can be. If only Omega continued this model in Continuity, it would be right there with the Sub today
Heck ya.
I’d buy one . Perfect diver. Better than a sub
So much more character & awesome history tied to it. Plus it would crush the competition in the higher categories too. Ah, the potential of this machine... Thanks for the comment Matt!
If I got the opportunity to design a field watch, this is what I would have. A black dial with dots and then dashes at the 3,6,9 & 12. Minimal text on the dial. Manufacturers name (or logo) with the depth rating. For the handset I would have a sword handset with them being long enough to touch the hour markers and the minute track. Then for lume, I would have Tritium. Lasts longer and isn’t dependent upon external light to glow. For the case I would have a mono cast case made out of titanium with a screw down crown and WR rating of 200 meters.
We'll see it in 2024 for sure. 60th anniversary.
Some have mentioned an anniversary year would be ideal & I'm all for it! What an awesome release it would make! Thanks for this Jim
I would buy one immediately
Magari!!
My dad owns a big triangle with date - he bought it for £5 from a carboot in horrendous condition. He had to replace a number of parts (including hands) so it's probably not as valuable as a good condition piece but still pretty awesome!
It's amazing where these original models ended up over the years. But still, your dads watch deserves to be kept. Nothing beats an original (especially a "barn find") ;)
A good alternative to the MOD Seamaster is the certina DSPH200M, it looks like it, it feels like a professional diver and it has TONS of history, though I’d loooove to have both the cerina and the MOD seamaster 2 watches I adore
