Hinata's receive in the manga was damn breathtaking. The pages leading up to it were hectic, action everywhere and left you with the ball coming down from Aran's spike. You turn the page thinking "Who's gonna get it? Someone has to get it right?" and the first panel you see is a pair of arms perfectly under the ball but you don't see whose. Then the rest of the double page spread is all Hinata, full focus on that receive. Furudate-sensei gets a lot of credit for their character writing work in this series, but their page layouts are also fantastic.
It's amazing in the manga! After all the chaos, flipping the page to see the arms, and then Hinata, I got goosebumps when reading that for the first time (honestly I still do!). It's so impactful! Thats also one of the different strengths of manga vs anime, the page flip in manga can lead to a huge impact!

Season 4 animation gets a lot of (mostly justified) hate, but I really love the way they draw/animate Hinata in this season - he's even more full of energy and excitement for the game
It adds more intensity
I always found it to be just that one episode that was a bit jank (15 was it?). Otherwise the movements look very loose and energetic, but still accurate, which I think is good.

I dont think its justified, we were simply spoiled in the earlier seasons.
@@RoaringTide You are not necessarily wrong, it's mostly that one episode and some parts of another one (21 I think was it? Maybe 20? Don't really remember anymore), and otherwise it's not that bad, I would still say it's above average throughout the whole season.
Having said, there's still a clear downgrade in animation quality when compared to the other seasons, and it's not really about ther style, I don't really dislike the stylistic change, but the things is that there are quite a few issues with the animation itself.
A lot of the movement, even if lets say "muscle wise" are pretty accurate, they are still quite overly exagerated and it toys around the line between what's reasonable and what's not, so if a certain movement hits you the wrong way it can totally break your suspension of disbelief. There's also a lot of reused animation and if you notice it it can also easily break your SOD and what I think is the worst part but is also harder to put into words, the problem with the inbetweens, it's a bit more technical but they are very poorly handled, and to put it simple, that results in a pretty janky animation. The thing is, all of those issues would be pretty unnoticeable as they are quite common in anime, but none of the previous seasons had any of these problems, in fact they were straight up great in those areas, so it's the comparison what leaves season 4 in a rough spot.
Hinata’s recieve is just beyond inspiring. You’d think that a person who’s told by several people that they won’t make it and should just give up, would be demotivated. But that’s not the case with Hinata. Truly an amazing character.
the run of like ep 20-25 is like the best in the series tbh, love it all.

So much character growth, so much complexity, and so much attention to detail in Haikyuu. Excellent.

4:47 btw, the Sky Love Hurricane is a technique from Captain Tsubasa, a sports anime from the 80s. You can look it up in youtube if you want, it's a very ridiculous move and just the kind of thing you'd expect the Miya twins to want to pull off lmao
Also it's pulled off by twins too hence the reference.
This episode has some of my favorite quotes and metaphors/themes in Haikyuu.
"We don't need the memories" as an argument that you should always face forward and forget the past to focus on new ways to improve.
Using pitons to climb a mountain is like using small experiences to build up into an achievement.
The amazing rally which features an incredible sequence of play (Atsumu's first-touch set into Osamu's fake-out spike set into Hinata's excellent receive into the perfect decoy from Hinata into a truly miraculous play from the Inarizaki libero to kick-receive) which ends with a lucky break for Inarizaki. Only by giving your all can you get into a situation where luck actually matters.
And then the final conversation between Atsumu and Osamu. "When you're starving and you have a bite, you just get hungrier." "When you see someone enjoy their food so much, everyone else gets hungry too." A perfect description of how great competitive players can motivate their teammates just by being themselves.
The season's almost over, and my all-time favorite sequence of play in Haikyuu is still yet to come. Everyone who watched it knows what it is, but I think it's the most epic moment of unadulterated hype in the entire show.
i've seen at least 10 different reaction channels react to this episode and I was always frustrated that nobody realized that Atsumu and Osamu switch places for minus tempo reverse attack which is mind boggling. I'm so so so glad you noticed it and acknowledged how crazy that is
8:16 This is my #1 favorite moment in the entire anime. It really shows Hinata's growth as a volleyball player and makes the second hand embarrassment in the ball boy arc worth it. This is when Hinata supplanted best boy Kita as my #2 favorite. Kenma is always #1 and no one can replace him.

I always loved how Atsumu sets to Osamu, who then feints a spike only to set right back. It shows their dynamism, and feints are always just cool.
This MIGHT be my favourite episode in Haikyuu. I'm not entirely sure but it's definitely top 5. What a MOMENT.
oh i can still remember the tears i shed and screams i let out when i watched this episode the first time lmao. when atsumu got the first touch and set to osamu, who then set to aran... WORLD STOP
WHAT a satisfying and beautiful episode. and i always adore that "hunger" metaphor atsumu and osamu use at the end... so so fitting
This is my favourite match in terms of ability growth. They start to get here the pay off of their training, everything starts to click, and they're becoming way better players than they were in S1. Also, the way they face off their flaws, fears, etc. is so damn cool to watch. In terms of emotional investment I probably prefer the next match, or the last one in the manga, but this one holds a special place for me
