I’m not a tactician or even try to pretend so…. But the more I read or watch about this guys system I’m gobsmacked. He’s making it look so darn easy, yet it’s not at all. He’s a chess master and has got Spurs players absolutely ripping it up. Yes it’s only 4 games in…but imagine what they could be like once they perfect this…scarey. I do not think I’ve ever witnessed such a transformation in a team before. Simply put, I’ve seen teams become ultra defensive to stop the rot…but I’ve never seen an ultra defensive team become overnight so attacking and brave! Style, managers and players. A club that’s been ridiculed more than most…I do believe could be having quite the last laugh.
Bissouma is the key player in that spurs side more important than maddison... Ingury to him is more disastrous to that team.. No one can immediately replace him and play his role as well as he does
Ange knows the importance of removing bad politics and promoting delightful atmosphere in the dressing room. Without this wisdom, he could never save the team. Now, broken hearted Romero will be healed by spreading his wings under the Aussie's leadership.
Ange’s already got the players purrrring at about 50%-60% Angeball & it’s only going to get much more fluid, intense & physically draining on opposition teams chasing Spurs guernsey’s backs once the players have adapted Angeball in full motion. League Title contenders & at minimum top 2 finish. FA Cup is a very good chance whilst getting into Europe is 99.8% certainty.
The beauty of Ange is that he never changes his style. He lets the opposition worry about him. At Celtic we ran Real Madrid ragged for 60 mins, could have been 2 or 3 up but tired and with the superior players Real ended up picking us off. Don't expect Ange to change his style, doesn't matter if it's against Man City or Luton. It will not change
Ange Postecoglou is happy at Tottenham than the previous two managers who kept on complaining about petty issues like stadium, jerseys etc. He is a reliable, flexible and long lasting manager at Totenham.
If Tottenham are lucky with injuries, and pick up another centre back in January then I think they can finish fourth. The absence of European football is an advantage a lot of pundits still seem to underestimate. They will occasionally get caught out by teams with dangerous wingers but they have the flexibility to overcome most teams and should be strong at home.
It’s a clear 4-3-3 and this has been noted publically by Ange on many occasions. Whilst it is a fluid structural system, the statement “a clearly defined 4-2-3-1” is just wrong.
Ange is smart enough not to disclose his strategies and tactics. Believe what you want from his pressers, but the only stat that matters is a winning score👊🤜 👍
Once Spurs signed Maddison I knew that they mean business. It's so funny how TenHaag chose Mount over Maddison. Besides, Ange's fluid game style with inverted full backs and his revival of some players like Sarr and Bissouma has helped him a lot. While I think Spurs will concede goals due to their aggressive system, I like his boldness and his tactical flexibility.
He deserves more credit considering Spurs just lost Kane. It’s interesting that he uses inverted fullbacks since it creates a box of 4 players in the opponent’s half when they are high up the pitch. They have played incredibly well though but it will be interesting to see how long it will last.
There was a question in r/coys about what are your expectations for this season & I answered "if we get the same amount of points from last season but with more interesting football to show, I won't mind." As a cautiously optimistic glass-half full Tottenham supporter, I'm very happy with the way things have gone. I like that you have pointed out many ways Tottenham can succeed from building from the back & just to add your point, Porro - a couple of times - was dispossed by Man Utd in the first half. But Postecoglou change it with widening the distance between - If I'm mistaken - the centerbacks & the inverted right fullback. So when Garnacho was covering a shorter distance to press in the first half, it's now longer. Sarr dropping back a couple of times to help also help. One thing that I'm curious but hopefully would not happen a lot is if one of Romero, Van de Ven or even Vicario absent. It already showed during the Fulham League Cup game & I believe we didn't have any shots on target in the first half. Postecoglou then switch to a 4-4-2 but on build-up, a 2-2-2-4 with Hojbjerg & Skipp dropping back closest to Sanchez & Van de Ven. Royal & Davies were closer to the front four of Perisic, Richarlison, Scarlett & Solomon then the two midfield players. We managed to push Fulham back with direct balls where we also managed to win the second balls - probably due to Royal & Davies contesting those balls then Hojbjerg & Skipp. It also makes sense that Hojbjerg & Skipp - probably two better ball-playing players then the two fullbacks - were closer the centerbacks so they can help with building up plays from the back better. Could this switch to 2-2-2-4 be an one off or something of a plan B from Postecoglou.
Spurs have a good chance at finishing in the top four. What this video showed is that Ange system is one that covers everything. Opposing teams so far simply cant keep up with the way the system changes. Son will play up top with Salmon on the wing. Also with Johnson signing he offers speed down the right. Having three front attackers with Speed and energy will be hard to deal with. As for the defence. Spurs will press high to win the ball back. Also notice if Spurs are being exposed in the wide areas too much the full backs will stay deeper when in attack. Sarr and Bissuma sometimes Maddison will go wide. The Ange system really does seem to cover everything.
You've summed it up pretty well I think. Been watching Ange's progress since he was here with Brisbane Roar but haven't tried to unpick his tactics much, he's too smart for me, it seems though that he gives the players enormous freedom to work it out in the moment while they all say that Ange is very clear in what he wants from each of them. I feel this is why, as you point out, it is all so fluid and difficult to for the other manager to counter because no matter how tactical they are Ange sets the strategy and his players are employing the tactics on the run. I think this is why they enjoy the game so much as well because the manager entrusts them and he will tweak it with the subs as the game unfolds. I might be misreading it completely but it is sure great to watch.
As an Australian I can tell you that Ange may have the team sheet as say 4-4-2 or even 4-3-3 but his plan is always to try and play 2-5-3. What this means is that once the side goes into attack he likes the left and righ fullbacks to come into the midfield thus, freeing up the left and right midfielders to move forward into attack. It is fantastic to watch but it is also fraught with some danger because if the oppposition team transitions very quickly it kind of leaves the two centre backs exposed. But he has been very successful on this model.
Very true. Football in Thailand and Vietnam and all across South East Asia is fast becoming a very good standard, and Australia is not keeping up @@716_ハディくん
Apart from tactice, he s a nice guy to communicate w all players willingly. Also, if you cant perform well, u ll be sub so all players on the bench ll be used frequently eg lo celso, which create good atmosphere in the team that Conte havent experienced of (using 14-15players only
FMS, Great analysis. I am predicting Spurs to finish in top 5 this season, not champions😅. Ange is a top manager with a lot of international experience that has taken the best parts from Mr. van Gaal, Josep Guardiola, Juan Manuel Lillo, and Don Bielsa and applied them to his game model. Each appointment (Austrailia MNT, Yokohama F. Marino, and Celtic) he adapted his tactics to the skill level of the players at his disposal, but the game model and prinicples are the same. I see potential for Ange to exceed Pochettino’s accomplishments but there is the Chairman Daniel Levy factor which has been consistent the past 20+ years too😢.
I'm glad you pointed out the biggest flaw in this attacking plan, the gaping holes on the wings left by the advancing fullbacks. Ange ball was successful with Celtic in the Scottish league, but they were found out in the UCL. The big tests are around the corner, Arsenal away and Liverpool at home this month, and then City in Dec, teams who know how to exploit space. Even the matches against Brighton, Newcastle and Hammers will be tough ones. If we come out of those matches with commendable results I'd say we're in for a special season.
there's a gulf in class between Celtic players and Premier League players. Celtic didn't get beaten because of their tactics, but because they faced world class players who would walk into any team.
Don't be surprised if Real Madrid or Bayern come calling for Ange. Like at Celtic, enjoy him while you can. Ange is very ambitious, if a bigger club than Spurs come calling he will go
Ange won’t go anywhere else besides staying in the PL, Ange is ambitious yes but that doesn’t translate to getting more money playing elsewhere, if he leaves he’ll go to Liverpool but only once his contract expires & winning titles with Spurs first.
As an arsenal fan i can say that ange's explosive styleof football is so beautiful to see, but not quite sustainable. I reckon the best finish in his tenure may be 3rd because they give up too many big chances. Some games you'll win by a large margin, others, you can be destroyed as well. I think that his style is quite erratic and very reminiscent of jesse Marsch's or hansi flick's style of football. I expect spurs to struggle especially against teams like liverpool, west ham, brentford, arsenal. Even when they won against man utd, the 1st 45 was quite indicative of the downside of ange ball that I am speaking about. There average shots against them in the premier league has also been 15 as well. Really high risk football and indicative of the lack of control in almost all their games thus far
Your videos are just incredibly amazing man! Please keep doing this. Could you do one about AC Milan? Great stuff man, really appreciated your work here!
Although Spurs have been brilliant but they still haven't faced a tactical manager like pep, Klopp, arteta, emery, de zerbi who can expose this flaw & dent the confidence of the Spurs players. Imagine the likes of mitoma, Saka, Diaz, Salah, grealish, martinelli, diaby getting so much room on the wings & being 1v1 vs the CB.
My guess: They'll be top 4 but not contend for the title because .....Spurrsy. AP has them going in the right direction and, as a neutral, they are fun to watch again. Last year was horrific. And they said that losing Kane would be a disaster. Not so much.
I know that Anges teams get better as they better understand the system. So they're going to finish above 8. I would put money on top 5 this year, higher next year. But I am curious to see how the defence holds up when you have other teams who are great at the counter such as Liverpool with players like Alexander Arnold who can make a very accurate long pass to a deadly finisher like Salah or Man City. And has played Man City under Pep before and his Japanese club side managed to out stat them, even if they're finishing quality didn't get them the win.
But as I've pointed out on numerous posts Ange learnt from Ferenc Puskás. Google him if you haven't heard of him. Puskás' strategy was to outscore the opposition. You score 1, I'll score 2. You score 3, I'll score 4. Conceding goals is not as critical as scoring them, as long as you're on the right side of the profit/loss equation.
I think Porro is the weakness in this side and tactics. He's great going forward but very average receiving the ball with his back to goal in midfield. It could be worth considering playing Betancur in his place. Outside of that, they need a dribbler outside and Soloman may be good enough for that but he's still unproven. If they manage to control the defensive transitions, which will be a huge task, they might challenge for top 6.
Porro is fantastic, and Bentancur is a midfielder not a right back. I don't think it's likely that Bentancur is randomly pushed to full back after recovering from his injury. Also, you haven't mentioned Johnson - could be a real gem, just have to wait and see
Oh yes I forgot about Johnson! @@Dionysus66 I think he'll fit like a glove. regarding Porro, He's great in the last third but he's mostly positioned as Bissouma's partner in the middle in transition and he's rarely outwide other than in the defensive transitions. Thats precisely why I think Betancur could work since he will be inverted on the ball and the less of a risk with his back to goal receiving the ball.
City will utilize the wider space in the defense with the signing of Doku, but they will mainly exploit Porro's vulnerability as an inverted fullback when pressing. Overall, this system appears to be very dangerous.
Spurs still need to choose to gamble on their side backs or not. Big teams do not have mercy 😅. Imagine Salah, Saka or Martinelli with lots of spaces. Like what we saw in the match against Barcelona.
Spurs beat Man City regularly, have knocked Liverpool out of the winning on multiple occasions, and actually have a harder time with teams that sit back and park the bus.
I mean they dominated barca with their b team and had dier and sanchez at cb so no pace. The game only went away from them at the end of the game when it looked like fitness became an issue as well as having players like reguillon losing the ball. The quality of the first 11 in this system is on another level but there will no doubt be issues down the wings and they will have to rely massively on Vdv’s recovery pace
You can argue that reguilon and dier who played in that match who don't fit his profiles were the problem that match. Now he has athletic players in udogie and vdv who imo are really underrated and don't get mentioned quite often but have been stand out players so far.
Udogie can’t go that high against Liverpool they’ll punish him with over the top balls , they need to be very accurate with their defence vs liv otherwise Klopps men will punish them
Good coach but lets wait until he plays the more tactically astute clubs. I want see how this system works against the better sides. After Sheffield they play Arsenal then Liverpool, theses are teams that have dangerous wide players, let's see how they cope with that.
Spurs will struggle against teams who are really good in the transitional phase with high speed and great skills up front, like RM, PSG, B Munich, and Liverpool.
@@raysmith6237 Against LFC we'll see how good or bad Ange is? If they are playing Liverpool at thier stadium and go with this approach that means he (Ange) lacks of flexibility.
This is tactics. This is what Ancelotti don't know. At Madrid players play using their talent not tactics. Ancelotti doesn't have any tactics, so our play isn't entertaining enough and we we struggle to even break down the defense of weak opponents.
@footballmadesimple whatever you do man never allow yourself to be bullied or persuaded by deranged Ange postecoglou fans who think that this guy is above criticism... and that's because they get swept up in his cult of personality. Your earlier video about his flawed tactics against Barcelona were spot on. Despite all the frothing from the Ange army. Nobody is above criticism.
LOL you - I live in Aussie here - ALL tactical systems have flaws, and are figured out eventually e.g. when Tika-Taka was finally figured out and countered. There's no 'Ange army' mate. However, we can and do rightfully point out the Eurocentricism thinking of some football fans in Europe, and they doubting managers from outside Europe or managers coming from small leagues, particularly England-based fans. It is nothing new. Arsenal's fans in the early 90s doubted Wenger when he came from Japan, Manchester United fans doubted Alex Ferguson coming from Aberdeen, Swansea and Brighton fans had doubts when Graham Potter came from a small club from Sweden, many doubted if Eddie Howe could manage in the Premier League despite bringing up Bournemouth from the 4th tier as well..... And many Celtic fans, most famously Alan Brazil, doubted Ange as well when he came from Japan to Celtic as well. Another Aussie manager, Graham Arnold, who outsmarted and beat Denmark with a far less talented squad and was named the best manager of the World Cup, and how he isn’t managing a big European club, while the likes of football’s ‘nepo-babies’ with terrible records like Lampard and Scott Parker kept on getting rehired is a clear example of this Euro and English-centricism.
You're not above criticism either. Focusing on the negative and calling Postecoglou fans deranged makes you sound like a right miserable tosser. Unfortunately there's way too many like you spoiling it for the rest.

No one can immediately replace him and play his role as well as he does
When bentancur is back he could be great there too if not better
@@georgiesmith7114while I don't think bentancur can pass or dribble better than bissouma..he is a good back up just in case for injury..
@@tuanmohdarfantuankhusairry2977 Bentancur is also class, not as good a dribbler but a better passer than Bissouma.
As much as I l wish this was true, you're being too optimistic for his first year. Just wondering how to you got to such a precise figure of 99.8%?
just wasn't prepared to say 100%@@gxp9223
I think Son just like Ronaldo will end up from a winger to a central attacker as he get older, Mourinho used to call him Sonaldo for a reason lol
Really love your videos man glad I discovered you in like 2019
Ange Postecoglou is happy at Tottenham than the previous two managers who kept on complaining about petty issues like stadium, jerseys etc. He is a reliable, flexible and long lasting manager at Totenham.
I can`t agree more. Ange ball is the tip of his iceberg.
Really is the place for football made simple, thank you
Once Spurs signed Maddison I knew that they mean business.
The next few months will tell. Which is the fun of it. He has not failed anywhere to date.
Good stuff mate👍🏽
Imagine when Bentancur is back and Solomon finds form 😮
Solomon has already been great!
@@sociolocomtsac in moments but not in form yet like Maddison for example
He deserves more credit considering Spurs just lost Kane. It’s interesting that he uses inverted fullbacks since it creates a box of 4 players in the opponent’s half when they are high up the pitch. They have played incredibly well though but it will be interesting to see how long it will last.
Forever. Basic philosophy has not changed since year dot, but Ange is smart enough, and his players flexible enough, to tweak their play.
Now that Son is playing upfront he will be as good or better then Kane.
Son will be best against high-line teams like Man City, Liverpool, but we need a dribbler/holder/header guy for the park-the-bus teams.
You should make a video about Eddie Howe. What a manager
That's a very good video but if you can do another one for to explain Roberto De Zerbi's tactic with Brighton, it will be interesting. Thank you !
Love seeing the Aussie boy going great
If you take a close look at the A-League you will soon discover a very rich seam of young coaching talent.
yet aussie club can't win acl in years
also losing to asean club like thai and viet
Very true. Football in Thailand and Vietnam and all across South East Asia is fast becoming a very good standard, and Australia is not keeping up @@716_ハディくん
Apart from tactice, he s a nice guy to communicate w all players willingly. Also, if you cant perform well, u ll be sub so all players on the bench ll be used frequently eg lo celso, which create good atmosphere in the team that Conte havent experienced of (using 14-15players only
Let's wait and see
Ange is going to copy santa-claus and give spurs fans a big shiny trophy as a gift
FMS,
Great analysis.
You missed a name off your list, he learned his management under Ferenc Puskas.
Will be interesting to see against a very good counter pressing and counter attacking side
Arsenal vs Spurs would be interesting this season.
Ante once said " I just copy Pep"

And he was taking the piss
Can't you take a joke.?
Don't be surprised if Real Madrid or Bayern come calling for Ange. Like at Celtic, enjoy him while you can. Ange is very ambitious, if a bigger club than Spurs come calling he will go
Maybe but he's in the best league.
Ange won’t go anywhere else besides staying in the PL, Ange is ambitious yes but that doesn’t translate to getting more money playing elsewhere, if he leaves he’ll go to Liverpool but only once his contract expires & winning titles with Spurs first.
It is four games into the season. Says it all really...
Great video! I think Spurs will surprise all and be top 4 quality. Of course i haven't figured in the "spursy" component.
Good one
Bro make a video on explaining that_what are all the difficulty will ange face against big six teams with his tactics and gameplay
You underestimate his ability to adapt the style to suit the opposition. Let’s wait and see.
Isnt the real question whether they will have the tactical flexibility & discipline to stay compact against the top teams?
I really hope that his system thrives now that more have taken notice
The audio cuts are a bit off
City will utilize the wider space in the defense with the signing of Doku, but they will mainly exploit Porro's vulnerability as an inverted fullback when pressing. Overall, this system appears to be very dangerous.
That's why our owners need to back Ange in January with the players he think will fit the system
i dont understand why you would call it a 4-2-3-1. There is a single 6 And the wingers are as high as the strikers. makes no sense.
Yeah more like a 4123. Bissouma being the 1
Just me or were there some weird audio cuts throughout the vid?
Spurs still need to choose to gamble on their side backs or not. Big teams do not have mercy 😅. Imagine Salah, Saka or Martinelli with lots of spaces. Like what we saw in the match against Barcelona.
Spurs beat Man City regularly, have knocked Liverpool out of the winning on multiple occasions, and actually have a harder time with teams that sit back and park the bus.
@@sociolocomtsac it was with back 3. With current formation they are gonna get exploited on the flanks
@@AbdullahiSalah-n5o it's just a guess. Who knows? Salah is even more expert than Yamal. Don't forget.
