My OG 55” A1 LG OLED just went black screen one day a couple years ago. I love that TV so much I didn’t want to toss it out in an era of disposable electronics. I discovered a local TV/stereo place and they diagnosed a faulty PSU, fixed me up for $150 and that TV is still in my living room today. Repair shops are awesome (sometimes)!
I respect the one year warranty policy. It's low risk really to you as the owner and it gives the customer a nice warm fuzzy. Honestly, how many times have you had that situation bite you in the greatest ass that's ever lived?
I also run a repair shop and I only sell business class laptops. It just makes sense to offer a 1 year warranty. Even if you say you only have a 30 day warranty, any customer would be p)ssed (and rightfully so) if their computer crapped out on them after 31 days or even 6 months and you told them oh well, pay me hundreds of dollars to fix it. The truth is the parts for business class laptops are usually pretty affordable and the repairs are easier than consumer grade laptops so it's not a big deal if you do have to honor a warranty. You can get an 8th gen refurb for around $200 and if the motherboard dies you can usually get a replacement for $40 - $80. To answer your question though, most business class laptops I sell last for 7-10 years, though people usually want to upgrade after 3-5 years. Only a tiny percentage of business class laptops fail within the 1 year warranty period. Probably less than 1%. You do have to properly refurbish them though. You know, put in a new SSD and replace the thermal paste at the very least. One thing they didn't do in this video is put the computer through full diagnostics, which is what I do in my shop. I own a copy of PC-Check and PC Doctor Service Center, both of which are professional technician diagnostic software. I run full test of the CPU, GPU and RAM overnight to make sure there aren't any problems. You can make do with free tools, which is what I did for many years, but having the professional technician diagnostic software helps narrow down intermittent problems and reveal issues that haven't reared their ugly head yet. This channel does a lot of things right but I don't agree with everything they do. But every shop does things a little differently. Sometimes you can't afford to do everything "right" depending on your customer base and costs. That's why I'm in a more expensive area, so I can charge enough in order to do everything right. This guy had to start a RUclips channel because obviously they can't afford to do things right even working out of a fricking Subway. Computer repair is a dying field because everything is such cheap garbage nowadays. It would be difficult to stay in business if you were in a lower to mid income area.

Paul Daniels works and lives in your country and is a top repair fella for laptops, especially Apple stuff. I'm sure you could find out more about his repair business by looking online.
I love the passion you have for your customers, makes me wish I could afford to send my cyber power PC to you so you can repair it but I know that bad boy is beyond help at this point
Man, I love this channel Gonna yap my story a lil bit My sister was looking to buy a laptop about this time last year and she asked me about some listings on laptops. She didn't exactly tell me what she wanted it for, so I just chose the sturdiest affordable laptop that was there (Dell precision 3520 for about 500 usd) and it pushed me into the life of searching business grade laptops (around the same time I started to watch salem). Since she didn't really used it that much, she decided to give it to me since I was going to need it for school (I had a Lenovo Ideapad s145 and it just wouldn't cut it for my area (civil construction)) and it's just perfect. I did however noticed that the temps were getting pretty high so asked an expirienced friend for help and changed the thermal paste, but turned out that this specific model has a problem of overheating so that didn't really change much. But while we had it opened up, we noticed that the chipset didn't have any thermal padding so that just might fix things a little bit (still don't have money to but it though), but overall, I don't have any complaints about the laptop. Love it. Nowadays I go around recommending my family to go for used good condition laptops instead of the shop laptops since the price difference is actually insane (a decently speced laptop can sell for 450-600 usd on retail when in shops the same laptop is 1200 usd, which I find absurd but do understand the pros and cons). All of that is just to say buy used business laptops people, it actually is worthwhile, and most of the time it just needs a bit of repairs and maintenance but nothing drastic so it's a good purchase! Anyways that's what I had to say, this comment prolly wont get noticed but at least I try to put the word out there. If you read this much thank you for your time and have a great day!
The attitude of putting things on a credit card and working hard to pay it off has been with me culturally growing up. I was lucky to make sure that I had the money every time and never went into debt, never had to pay interest. I'm moving soon and having to eat into my savings a little bit, which is scary. Maybe if your store ships to Canada I might get a refurbished laptop from you guys!
Excellent work, and outstanding message about repairing and buying used over new junk. I still use my old Lenovo Y15p after all the years. Does what I need it to do. Maintenance here and there. Clean out the gooch dust, repaste, and it keeps on keepin on. Keep up the great work.
You're a great guy man. I hope everything goes well for you and that this channel continues to grow and you can keep helping people and providing an honest and reputable service fixing PCs!
honestly man mad respect to you because i had an old thinkpad a few years ago and it had several issues one of which was a overheating issue and while i wanted to fix it early i brought it to a few tech repair places just for it to get mutilated and come back in legit scraps. if i could trust my local repair shops the way i trust you (because i see your process isnt a scam) i would be happy to buy something used and upgradable.

I never knew about the DV9000 error. I'm terrified of HP laptops now because my first personal laptop was a HP DV6000. They had Nvidia cards with AMD chips and my god they must have never been QA'd. Mine set my bed on fire. It got SO HOT. I know my family was trying to do good by me while I was in HS, but It was horrible for everyone because of one laptop. When I eventually had the magical 20th call-in to HP warranty support they said they were gonna upgrade it to get the problem fixed. Great. ...It was a DV9000. This one had an INTEL chip... but luckily for me, it was gutted of the GPU. Integrated.. eugh. It lasted less than 2 months. Not because of abuse.. but because it just had some horrific issues. Those old HP's had a top frame bar that was ribboned to the mobo, and with any excessive heat the piece would blow up onto the monitor and severely damage it. Mine also decided to pop up and completely fried a ribbon cable to the keyboard. Those HP Pavilions were NOT meant to be fixed. My husband also had a DV9000 at this time. I believe it was called the "Entertainment Pavilion" but he has special needs, so the 17-18 inch screen was what he needed. Unfortunately it went the same way mine did-- except he had the Nvidia card. It wasn't worth the money for the fix. The next laptop he got was a Lenovo-- but not a good one. It was the only sub-1k one on the market with a 18 inch screen. Special needs people get specifically screwed over by the industry. He can't see the damn screens. That one had a strange issue. Opening it up? Network card was extremely tense to the board, and the cable to plug it in was not long enough. Upon plugging it back in.. whole thing died. Keyboard, trackpad, everything just stopped. Unplugged it, stayed broken. It lasted 12 months. I paid just shy of a grand for it. I've built computers for years. My MacBook was the most modular thing I'd owned for a long time. It was constantly getting repaired to keep it working from its late 2009 build date to around 2017. It was a good lad. My current laptop is an ASUS Pro Duo UX582. I recently popped the hood to clean her out, and while I may have paid 4 grand for it (and it took 2 years to pay off..), the inside tells more than the outside does. Everything is fixable. Everything is able to be modularly repaired. Asus laptops are a much nicer consumer build than I expected. If only.. they weren't 4k for a similar build, and I could get something with 18 inches of screen real estate. I've picked up a side hustle at work of fixing the work laptops for a bit of scratch. It's sad how quick people will toss something they don't understand. Keep doing what you do. Thanks for reminding me of that damn laptop. I needed some humbling today.
I'm sure your customer appreciates what you've done here (I hope). To be giving them something that is not only significantly better than what they had, but also coming out of your bottom line is incredible. I know I appreciate seeing the work you do because not only is it amazing to see your quality of work, but it has also helped me as well. I am way more thorough with my PC and laptop now when it comes to maintaining them and cleaning out all the swamp gooch. The amount of gooch that had built up in some of the parts would make The Gooch Collector proud.
I like every video i watch of you I like it regardless if it was made 1 hour ago or 1 year ago, i love it that you help a ton of people. Albeit i dont have a great laptop, i feel happy that someone does and you are the reason for it. Keep up the good work.
In general, no, this wasn't your fault. But good helping the customer, because they didn't deserve that, nor did anyone else who had their shit stolen from the lobby that day. The person who should be paying for that is the apartment complex that let that happen. You should send them the bill for the laptop.
Business isn't always good, we had 1/5th of our dell latitude 3420 fail on us out of the box, even the 5420 and 7420 were completely bad from what we heard
That whole Gen was notoriously defective. I blame the chip shortage for all the defective tech made in 2021. GPU’s, laptops, TV’s, cars, we’re seeing them every day.
I was grateful for a shop in downtown KC that sold used computers/parts. Then a friend of mine opened a shop and was able to help me get parts on payment plans. Thanks to these two things, my younger days were spent with far better computer hardware than I would've had otherwise.
Hey it's me again, the guy who watches your sponsorship portion without speeding up/skipping to help you out financially on my end. Love your stuff, keep em coming!
This is the kind of shop that gains loyal customers and fans alike. Good job for going the extra mile. You didn't have to do what you did, but you probably have a customer for life!
Your message hits home with me. And what you did for your client goes above and beyond. Kudos to you. I've been buying used computers for years. And I don't think I've ever bought a laptop new. I also refurbish machines for friends and locals who can't afford it and need a cheap computer to just get online and connect with family. I'll swap out the hard drive for an SSD and sell it to the end user for pretty much what I paid for it. If the computer was given to me for free, the cost to end user is only about $40. Would I ever get into computer repair as a career? Probably not. I'll keep the noodling around with them in the basement an enjoyable hobby.
I have learned so much with watching your videos. From shopping for specs to how I can repair parts that aren't a pain. You're doing more than just repairs, you're passing on that racoon like knowledge to use simple folk
Local repair tech here Houston Texas. Since I started in January I've watched 2 repair shops close down. My old man has 40 years of experience but had no clue how to modernize. Updated the computers we sold from 9020s, to recent enough 3060s, and increased the price we went the route of less customers but more money. No fake reviews here 🗣️. I keep telling the old man he needs to make a RUclips cuz unironcoally computer repair shit always pops off
This is why it is a good advice for you to remove your harddisk, SSD or M.2 out of your device before send it to any repair service via mail or walk-in. Or at least backup to other storage then wipe data if you still can do it on the device by yourself. But since most people did not know this. Even some people who want to do it but their device is too complicate/fragile to do or do not want to risk any damage to the device by themselves, it still a risk like this happen to anyone. If not possible to get data out or move to somewhere, try walk-in at any nearby reputable or trusted repair shop may help prevent this problem. Avoid mail-in if possible unless you have no choice or tried all options left only this as last resort to do (you can purchase delivery insurance for peace of mind at least).
Love seeing your long form videos! And you're kinda an inspiration to me as i enjoy building PCs and/or working on them whenever i'm called on to help and I'm working on giving my used Panasonic Toughbook CF-54 a few hardware upgrades. Have you ever worked on a Toughbook laptop, btw??? Anyways, thanks for being The Greatest Technician Thats Ever Lived and keep being awesome!

I don't understand people in America. How the hell do you do deliveries this way? To your doorstep, to your lobby. Does everyone in the US forget that people steal stuff? Where I am, you either get it handed to you or you have to pick it up yourself at a delivery/post/etc office. We don't leave our stuff lying around.
I've always been a "buy used" type of person like my parents, I've gotten nice used laptops since high school and I always like buying refurbished systems whenever possible. For things I don't need anymore, I always like to donate them to Goodwill or sell them online if possible. Way less waste that way. Reduce, reuse, recycle. ^_^

I got a refurbished T490 about half a year ago. Did exactly what you said. Just IGPU in a 8th gen I5, quadcore with up to 4.1Ghz, i think 8520U or something, 16 gigs of soldered RAM,with an available slot for upgrading. Plenty for what i do (some programming, office use, RUclips and playing Pokémon Reborn and other fangames) . Upgraded the NVMe to a 1TB one and repasted it. Total, was like 400€, and i happened to start interning in the shop i did it, so data backup and OS installation was free 🤪😂. Also loved how simple it was to do the repaste. The Asus K55VM (third gen I7, GTX 630M dGPU) i had before was a pain to repaste. Thinking of getting an heatsink from a dGPU model so that the temps are better and don't have to run the fans all the time.
Oh man the feel of garbage people who steal package. I do enjoy the choice you pick. Big fan about refurbished commercial grade laptop. Cheers Andy! Also you give me hope in this world with all the repair and patience you do!

We have shop that sells refurbished laptop with like 30 days to 3 month at most warranty. They go form 200$-1000$.

This is the GREATEST VIDEO ever made. I swear, that bit at the start in the office and casually slipping that PC case into your bag.
You guys slay
the greatest video that's ever lived
Thanks for being a nice an honest person,, the world needs more like you.
Holy crap thank you so much 😭 I’ll make sure to put this towards the next person in need
I hope this helps❤.
Thank you Mustafa!! It definitely helps! You are 👏
One thing I've noticed watching Salem Techsperts and Rich Rebuilds videos, bodies decompose fast as fcuk in Massachusetts..
Repair instructions unclear, I let my laptop get stolen and lost track.
You are the greatest man that has ever lived, helping out a customer like that is a big boss move!
Kudos on you man!
brother you are incredible . the fact that you go so out of your way to help someone in a shitty situation is something i can learn as well
These very entertaining glimpses into a repair shop life are appreciated
Thank you!! I’m glad I can show you my world
Your a good man putting the customer first taking care of the people using good quality control this is what companies need to do more
I really do appreciate your business practices
This is the first youtube video I've watched of yours after viewing so many of your shorts, I just had to give it a try after seeing your short on this. Not onky are you The Best Technician That's Ever Lived, but you've definitely put a smile back on the customer's face guaranteed. Great work Andy, keep it up!
Everytime Lupe dies he revives inside the shop, like its his checkpoint or something 😂😂
"I won the Gulag" Just too funny
Watching all the way from Australia here and I wish we had a repair shop here like yours
Same here. I'm also watching from Aus and wishing for a repair shop near me like this. 💯
Awesome customer service right there 👍 love to see it.
Man, I love this channel
Gonna yap my story a lil bit
My sister was looking to buy a laptop about this time last year and she asked me about some listings on laptops.
7:49 I really hope you left that on there lol

small correction: the GPU failure was in that the silicon die disconnected from the rest of the chip
I KNEW someone would correct me on that as I was saying it, you can see my hesitation 😂

honestly man mad respect to you because i had an old thinkpad a few years ago and it had several issues one of which was a overheating issue and while i wanted to fix it early i brought it to a few tech repair places just for it to get mutilated and come back in legit scraps. if i could trust my local repair shops the way i trust you (because i see your process isnt a scam) i would be happy to buy something used and upgradable.

16:40 "and mine" 😂
I'm sure your customer appreciates what you've done here (I hope). To be giving them something that is not only significantly better than what they had, but also coming out of your bottom line is incredible. I know I appreciate seeing the work you do because not only is it amazing to see your quality of work, but it has also helped me as well.
I am way more thorough with my PC and laptop now when it comes to maintaining them and cleaning out all the swamp gooch. The amount of gooch that had built up in some of the parts would make The Gooch Collector proud.

In general, no, this wasn't your fault. But good helping the customer, because they didn't deserve that, nor did anyone else who had their shit stolen from the lobby that day. The person who should be paying for that is the apartment complex that let that happen. You should send them the bill for the laptop.
that tbw info from crystal mark is such a good info! never knew thats how you know if its still good or not... thank you man!
@@SalemTechsperts Are Latitude 5310's and 5310 2 in 1's (2020) defective too or not?
I was grateful for a shop in downtown KC that sold used computers/parts. Then a friend of mine opened a shop and was able to help me get parts on payment plans. Thanks to these two things, my younger days were spent with far better computer hardware than I would've had otherwise.

Look at the hinge.
What do you see?
Its broken. Because of epoxy.

You can send them to your PO box but not many people have a PO box
I've always been a "buy used" type of person like my parents, I've gotten nice used laptops since high school and I always like buying refurbished systems whenever possible. For things I don't need anymore, I always like to donate them to Goodwill or sell them online if possible. Way less waste that way. Reduce, reuse, recycle. ^_^

Whats it's like to be pinned by the GREATEST TECHNICIAN THATS EVER LIVED 😮
