Unpack + Declutter || Down to 42 boxes!

- Опубликовано: 20 дек 2020
- Down to 42 boxes! Unpacking more boxes and sorting out random boxes of stuff on our minimalist journey. But when I'm done unpacking and decluttering, life feels simple again. Simple living is intentional and purposeful but we still live among boxes in our house. We have 50(ish) boxes left to unpack and decide what to keep, what to donate, what to sell, what and how to declutter.

Last season on Erica Lucas ... Erica battles her curtain stash. Will she defeat the hoard of the wall hangings this season? Stay tuned.
Seriously! So much!
My last move, I discovered that I apparently had an attachment to vases 😂 We all have a "thing," I think.
@@BarbaraThorndyke yep. It is washi tapes and brush pens for me😅😂 best is to keep the storing space kind of minimal
I had a lot of wall hangings last year in the garage. And so much old decore I was still keeping! Got rid of it all! It felt so good!
I had a lot of wall hanging stuff at my last house and it didn’t look like a lot on the walls but in my new house we have more windows and it’s smaller and there’s less wall space so it’s time to declutter hanging stuff. Sometimes a new location (and the packing and moving)brings better clarity on how much you have and the ability to get rid of more.
I can never decide whether I’m annoyed with the movers when they only put one item in a giant box or if I’m happy for you that you don’t have much work with that box. 😂
Same. She was lucky to have her lightbulb packed I had to buy all new ones.
You could open your own Home Goods store with all that wall art! You must have just bought new ones at every house and never unpacked the old ones!
Andy: I wanna use it! Today!
Erica: mmhmmm
😆😆😆 we heard you, Erica!
I totally lol’d with that response
It is sad but true that what has sentimental value to you is unlikely to have sentimental value to your children. Merry Christmas “
You heard me, ‘she is going to declutter those wall hangings ...again!’ 🤣
I hope you do a video where you put up all your wall hangings.
Ok sure! I will make it the declutter vs keep and hang.
Ha, I've always wanted a wall that is floor to ceiling, East to West pictures in frames. I think I was in a restaurant bathroom once that was like this and it was just so fun to look at al the different things. Photos and drawings, paintings etc. No space between the frames at all.
Just when I think that I have a lot of stuff. Here comes Erica with her 42 boxes 🤣😂🤣😂
Right!! 😄
She also has a basement for42 boxes, my sentimentals and sorted out things are in my living room/office…! 😆 Easy to remember they’re there! 👍🏼
I find it gets easier over time. The first time I tried letting stuff go was almost traumatic, so emotional, as I was thinking with my heart. But I did get rid of stuff. But it has taken 2 or 3 (or sometimes more) rounds to realise that I absolutely didn’t need some of of the things I was holding onto and the process to let them go became so much easier. I still have a long way to go as I have been working on different areas of my life/home. Clothes and books, plus a second purge of the kitchen are coming over the next month. You guys have let a massive percentage of your possessions go and you should be so proud of how much your lives have been positively impacted through this process.
I love it, you were overwhelmed and over that box with pictures, albums and steins and Andy was all excited about it! LOL!! 😂 You two are a great team and so fun to watch!
😄
He’s the calm to my crazy. :)
OMG!! Watching this makes me want to get rid of most of my possessions. I can’t imagine dealing with all that. Exhausting! I’m actually surprised that with all the moves you’ve made, you guys have so much stuff. I guess easier to just keep pushing it along? What if you had had to do the packing yourself each move? Would it have made a difference?
Answer -absolutely! We moved a lot at our own expense and we definitely downsized each time.
I definitely get what the Minimal Mom says about having less inventory to manage!
I think I would make it a point to move my own stuff every time after seeing this. I know the govt pays for the move but how much would you pay to have all the time back that you've spent dealing with each thing. Moving it over and over from house to house and now from box to bin to your car to the curb to the donation station. Ugh!! I am definitely not a minimalist but after living in one house for 27 years we had one big box of pictures to move and that was it! Even now, I bet it would be helpful to have some quarantine boxes that you date and if you don't get into them in the next year, take them for donation. You will never miss them.
When I move to my dream location I want to be down to 1 suitcase, 1 backpack and 1 small purse. That goes down from my move in 2003 with a 15 foot uhaul truck and a full car for me and my daughter.
@@wk8678 I went to my son’s house across the country with a small suitcase and a backpack. I stayed 3 weeks and had everything I personally needed. If I had had to move to my own place while there, I felt like I could pick up everything I needed from a thrift store and a few pieces of furniture. It was a wonderful feeling while it lasted.
Why do I enjoy these unpacking videos so much?? So satisfying to watch you make your way through it all. Sadly for me, happily for you, they will eventually come to an end :D
"Oh, this is my wok." And he puts it back in the box. Do you have room for it? A designated place for it?
I think I would get tired of choosing and want to get rid of it all. You have a lot of patience with your decisions.
Right?
Omg. I can't imagine going through this much stuff.
As I look around and see all this crap in my house.
@@danixoxo8637 heee heee, me too 🤦♀️
The good thing about the 42 boxes is that so many of them are not very full.
I like the way you two speak to each other with kindness, appreciation and respect. 👍
Noooo! You’re so like I was, but I’m getting better. Yes we like it, it’s nice, maybe Really nice... but WHERE will it go?!
and if you don’t think you’ll use it, DON’T THINK of another use for it, just get rid! 😫🤣
That's a question we try to ask ourselves before we buy it, then when we get home, were know where to put it!
Erica, I’m so glad you mentioned that what we see on video is pared down from a couple of hours of work. I know it sounds dumb, but for some reason I keep thinking that my decluttering should go faster. I’m learning to be more patient with myself and to internalize that “it’s not a sprint; it’s a marathon.”
Just think, You will NEVER have to do this again!!! Yay. Push through to the end of those 42 boxes.
If you want to remain a minimalist, you have to continue decluttering. It’s not one and done. Stuff continues to come in. 😁
@@LP-tu8li it will most likely however never be this much stuff again! :-)
I wish my kids were as excited when I tell them what is for dinner! lol
I’m going to be so sad when your done your unpacking😂😂😂.
I love how your dog kept walking back and forth behind you as you were unpacking!
He makes me smile
I am going to hate it when you don't have any more boxes. I get a kick out of watching you & Andy. We may have to ban together & send you moving boxes of unknown gems.
You have so much decorative stuff, so many wall items! I only have 2 paintings, about 5 framed photos of family and basic minimal xmas decor. We don't do seasonal decor. I do have too many books though 🤣
Heidelberg is sooo beautiful. You really should come here some day ;-)
Now on the list!
As are many other Germany cities ;)
Hello from the wonderful Oberlausitz 😃🥰👍🏼✨ (from the home of Moravian stars 🌟!)
I was there in 1981 and was struck by how attractive it was. We were travelling all over Europe in a camper van but Heidelberg is one of the cities that stood out in my mind.
I love this Channel so much
When your daughter asked what's for dinner and you paused, I was totally waiting for you to say "food" lol that's what I tell my kids; "What kind of food?" "Food that you eat." 🤣🤣
Funnnny!!! I’m gonna use that!!!
@@emilasmith4279 it's what my mum always said lol, we never thought to ask what kind, so I had to add to it when my kids asked me! 🤣
Please tell them what’s for dinner. Children need to feel valued. Any other answer would just frustrate them.
When do my kid became a teen, the answer to "what's for dinner" was "whatever you're making" LOL
Cook book stand for iPad!
I use it to put my spiral (manual books) for Bible Study so I can have more space on my desk.
Remember the mantra...."Where will their (stuff, lamps, etc) home be?"
I get a thrill when I see you move an empty box to the side.....
your almost there, keep it up
Merry Christmas to you and your beautiful family ❤️🌲
I have trouble letting go of sentimental things too. One thing that may help is to start a journal of the sentimental items. Write the quotes and phrases from the wall art and donate the originals. Other items, you can take a photo and paste it in your memory journal, making it easier to let go of the items that are just stored in the basement.
Reducing the seasonal decorations would help a lot. I don’t bother with much beyond the Christmas tree anymore and it makes life easier.
My weakness is craft supplies. This week, I plan to sort through my needlework charts and materials and let go of those I won’t really ever use. I know it will make it so much easier to find the things I do want to stitch.
Merry Christmas to you and your family.
My heart just about jumped out of my chest when I saw that beer stein from Heidelberg! My mother is from there! It is such a beautiful little city you would love going there! 😍🇩🇪
I visited Deutschland in 1990. I was so impressed with Heidelberg. I would love to go back to see it again!😍
what is it with your obsession with this town? there are nicer places in my country
I like that you folks are sentimental minimalists. ❤️🧡
I live in Germany and visited Heidelberg for a Math Student Conference at the University there. The city is beautiful, especially the historic district. Definitely worth a trip.
And if you are that far, come see us in eastern Saxony, an absolutely gorgeous part of the country! And the door to Poland and the Czech Republic 😀
love that hubby was helping, I think that makes it go faster. the spot were he was loving on your doggie was sweet. Keep up the good work !!!
Can I just say I love watching the interactions between you and your husband. You are suited for each other. I
I can’t believe all the boxes that only had one or two things in them.
Looking forward to the picture frame declutter! It was harder than I expected, for me. I had to be so picky because I have very few walls to hang a picture on. You have SO MANY more pictures (& a few more walls), so I'm curious if this is going to be hard for you, or if you'll fly right through it. 🙂
I try to use my sentimental items instead of keeping them away so that I can appreciate them. Paintings are hung, ornaments are displayed, dishes are used. So that they are both practical and sentimental ☺
Famous question EVERY DAY "hey mommy, what's for dinner?"
I would celebrate if like the guy said I want to do stirfry, like now! - I’m all for it :-)!
Although there's still a lot left, compared to where you started from in the last house, it's amazing to see the phenomenal progress. Congratulations Erica!
These are weirdly satisfying, keep up the good work!
All those wall hangings and you donated the Pub Mirror I have had for probably 19 years! 😂 we all have different styles, I love mine in The entry way to hang keys and purses. I used to have nothing hanging up, but recently gave been making prints of my kids outside and it brings me so much joy.
Y’all are cute and funny to watch! Merry Christmas 🎄🎁
You two have fun to watch. I like how Ranger likes to supervise.
I love unboxing videos.
Wow... You guys are coming on in leaps!... When I think of your first videos when you started this journey Erica... Worlds apart😊👏... And I love that we are a part of it!... You give me so much motivation. Xx
Have a very Happy and safe Christmas 🎄🎅
Alright - what’s a challenge coin? 🤔
Also - I love those coordinate signs that you did - so sweet
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Challenge_coin#:~:text=According%20to%20the%20most%20common,originated%20during%20World%20War%20I.&text=Some%20were%20wealthy%20scions%20attending,presented%20them%20to%20his%20unit.
All this stuff 😲...watching this is encouraging me to keep going with my decluttering... too much is overwhelming...
If you have nice illustrated books you can make a seasonal decor thing with the cookbook stand, but that requires upkeep.
Home stretch! How many signs with words on them do you own?? LOL
I love the unpacking videos. Sometimes I am arguing with you as I watch. "No, that's cute and useful, keep it!" Or "you've already got something similar, let it go!" It's fun to see your choices.
Mooooving right along! The end is in sight 🎉🎊🎉🎊🎉
Jenga blocks could be offered for free online - I wanted some for Christmas ornaments or to paint and make a sight word game for my 5 year old. Just a thought for others who may have a partial game laying around. Those are quality pieces.
Love these episodes! Merry Christmas!
The two of you compliment each other so well!
Heidelberg is amazing- and even more famous for the vine 🍷!
it definitely is. Greetings from Heidelberg ;)
Ooooh! Will have to come see it!
The way you say Norfolk 😳
Yes! Pronouncing the L is important 😂😅🤣
Erica! I haven’t been able to watch your videos for so long and this was so fun for me to watch! I hope I can keep up from now on. You are doing so well with your channel!
You're doing great with unpacking and decluttering. I bet when you are done unpacking you could go through the keep pile again and still be able to purge items. Good luck
You’re getting there. Way to go! 👍🏻
You guys are really making progress!!!
You're not alone in the "one-item" packing!
Heidelberg my husband was stationed there. The amount of wall hangings you have is insane.....especially since you donated tons of wall hangings before you left your last house and this house (like the usa one)
Andy: I wanna use it, like now!
Erica: unh huhhhh ( I can identify with that response!)
You guys are so fun to watch!
Another super satisfying video to watch! I get excited for you when there’s just an item or two per box! Whenever I’m in my attic all I can think of is my hubby better turn minimalist before we move next or he’s going to have a lot of crap to deal with! Ha! Keep up the good progress and don’t forget to hit that record button! 😁
Sooo close to getting through it all! Keep up the great work!
Another great video! You are getting through things - congratulations! I can see why it’s hard to part with items because all the things that you have are so beautiful and in perfect shape! Even though it is a lot of physical and mental work, I think when you’re finished all of this unpacking you’re going to feel so great! ♥️
I loove these vieeos! It's so satisfying! :)
Love that you are getting through those basement boxes!
You guys are amazing! Keep going!
Love seeing a the unpacking and everything you are donating.🥰
Home Goods et al clearly has a lot to answer for.
Now I know what to prop my Ipad with!! Thanks!!
You are rocking these boxes!
I bet he wouldn’t notice if you didn’t keep the blue lamp. Lol. When I moved from a big house to a small house I didn’t have enough wall space for all my pictures. So I removed the outdated artwork/photos and stored them In a large postal cylinder and donated the frames.
love watching the process! gret job you guys!
In the world at this moment, I feel safer watching you unpack. Thank you, for each and every video.
Happy Christmas to all the family 🎄🎅
Said it before but I’ll say it again. Love watching you guys unpack & declutter.
Wishing you, Andy and the kids a very Merry Christmas 🎄 ❤️
First ...a very merry Christmas to you and your family from Australia....and I still can't get over how fascinating it is to watch you unpack boxes, be sad when it ends...lol
You're getting their!!! ❤️❤️❤️
hehe you have so many pictures (wall hanging stuff) :-)
Great video! With all the wall hanging a you might want to do a gallery wall! Having a gallery wall of old pictures is fun....I have one that is from chair height to ceiling. Love the unpacking! You should definitely do a wall hanging video and also one that shows you putting away the things you decide to keep, taking donations to the car etc very satisfying! Keep up the great work! Also we will need a brewing video when al is said and done.
Yeah, we got a few boxes too. Looks like you found some fun stuff.
Yes, you still have to much stuff, but you'll get there. The important thing is you are aware, and want to do something about it.
We all become attached to certain items....even purchasing a second item of something we already have and can't find or buy several of lamps, jars, plates etc.
I always know I’m going to smile when you two get together
Merry Christmas! I keep rewatching this and every time you don’t unwrap those pictures I scream, “No, get rid of that paper!”. 😂 😂 😂. May your holidays be full of love and giggles!
Nice job of getting through things without putting pressure on yourselves to finish immediately! Merry Christmas to you and your family!
I get so excited when I see you have a unboxing video!! I wish I lived near you, that "You are my Sunshine" pic is sooo cute!! I would buy it in an instant. I have always called my youngest son , my Sunshine. He just turned 15 and I still call him that!!
I use one of those cookbook stands for my iPad when I’m following a recipe from the internet for the first time. If we like it I print it off to keep in our favourite recipe folder. I also use it when I’m watching RUclips as I cook.
Sometimes I wish my decluttering situation was as easy as yours... at least with the matter of having boxes being half empty vs right full!
At least the “it gets easier the more you do it” is not limited to select people / situations.
I’m sure the opposite can be true for some...
I’m so excited for y’all to be done!!! My ocd brain likes completing things.
I love the mirror with the ledge and hooks!
Yes, completion. I hope they embrace the change.
Love you two... work well together... have fun together + kid intrusion perfectly OK😎. Oh, & Ranger loves all of you! He & I love these unpacking sessions, lol! Good job, y’all!!! xoxo
I was born and raised in Maine. Moved away at 26...the ONLY thing I miss is my Gram who is 96 and LL Bean lol.
Do you hope to have all boxes done before 2020 is done? Just wondering your timeline/goals for the rest of the boxes?
Still doing an amazing job with the decluttering ...hope you all have the most amazing Christmas from your bestie across the pond..lol...xx
Same to you!!
Great progress!!
