I feel like I’m one of maybe 5 people in the world who actually prefers this version to the one from s1-2. I love the new energy and the faster pace. I remember hearing this version of the theme for the first time- I’d given up on Enterprise during s2 and not really looked back, then years later I heard this and decided to give the show a rewatch. I was so incredibly impressed with s3-4.
What are people thinking...this is by far the best intro to Star Trek...ever. Most people watching this would not have a clue as to who the people are or what the images represent...I know and believe me...this is the perfect song! All it needs is to be longer. I love this version...with more of the acoustic guitar.
They also added background keyboards sounding like a mellotron, so it as a very "Moody Blues" vibe to it (compare it to the songs "Gypsy" and "Eternity Road" from the album "To Our Children's Children's Children" and you'll see (hear?) what I mean).
Video captures the essence of the space program in just a little over a minute. As someone who did engineering project management of many systems for numerous space programs for many years, this video always gives my spine a electric jolt watching it. It was the highlight of my engineering career. Even though NASA was never the real space program. For those that want to know what IS the real space program, go look up the USAF Space Command. It is a real agency and what they do is never publicly discussed. But they do have a website.
It's by Watson Russell, and it's called "Faith of the Heart", but this version you can't buy, only the version they used in the first 2 seasons of Enterprise... Merry Christmas :o)
Won’t lie, I wasn’t planning to watch this show. I’d heard how it wasn’t as good as the other Star Trek shows and had an awkward intro. Well it kinda was all that, but so much more. A shame it ended before it had a chance to really fly.
I liked this version better personally as well. They simply double timed the rhythm to make it feel faster but more or less exactly the same. The vocal part is the same from the first recording they didn't even bother re recording that.
For me it was a vast improvement over the season 1/2 theme. However season 1/2 shows were far superior except T'Pol's giant boobs which were completely unnecessary.
As Roddenberry said, "Space, the final frontier". Do I think that mankind will one day take to the stars...yes. Space is what's next. Mankind came out of the cave, and we looked over the hill, and we saw fire. And we crossed the ocean, and we pioneered the West, and we took to the sky. The history of man is hung on the timeline of exploration, and space is whats next.
This is my favourite version of the intro, also my favourite Star Trek series ever, I've watched all of them, VOY, TNG, TOS, DISCO, DS9, ENT, Lower Decks, all of them and enterprise is my all time favourite. (P.S.) Also watched all the films as well, Enterprise is still better than all of Star Trek put together in my opinion...
I initially despised the new version of the theme song, but it grew on me. Now, I can't stand to listen to the previous version, as it sounds like borderline gospel music.
They should have gone with the tempo of the Season 1 & 2 intro, but left out the lyrics. The music and tempo without the lyrics of the first two seasons would have been perfect.
I think the original was waaay better. I actually thought I had music playing in the background. I read that they thought the original was somehow depressing? BS. It scored the intro way better than this not-so-improved version.
I think this is the best star trek theme...the song itself and the visual also has something to say...I also like the previous star trek themes, but there was no text and the visuals were some scenes of the ship or station, depends on the series. But this one is something different, I find it very catchy.
Chilling, yet unquestionably accurate words. Quite right, let's hope that by the time we start crossing the stars the reason will be for exploration and not escaping a dead world.
@ArcticChilli You know it's funny--when this theme was first adopted I remember thinking it sounded somehow cheaper than the original and I didn't like it. But now I can't stand the original--it's so dull and sleepy. This one evokes such energy and optimism, which is really what made this unfortunately short-lived Trek series so awesome!
Roddenberry was a genius. He knew humans were natural explorers. It's coded in our DNA to look, to find, to learn, and that is what Star Trek is all about.
@ricky122dbz Hi, The Song was released in 2002 by Russell Watson on CD on his Encore Album - it is track 16. It goes for 4.09 minutes. The album is mainly classical music as Russell is an OPera Singer. He got flack for doing the theme song to a TV show at the time. You can still buy the CD or down load the song from Amazon.
Alan Shepard was America's First Man in Space riding the Mercury Program's Freedom-7 Capsule into history; he was also Mission Commander of Apollo 14, the 3rd successful US Moon Landing and the first Golfer on the Moon ;) :D
I really hate the newer version of the theme song. Although the tempo is somewhat faster, that calypso beat really bothers me, and it cheapens the overall sound of the music, making it sound trivial. In contrast, the strong beat of the drums in the original version (for Seasons 1 & 2) added impact to the theme that was expressed in the music. The original version was great. They should never have changed it.
@BradBrassman ALAN BARTLETT SHEPARD... First American in space... second human in space (1961). He was also part of the Apollo program. He visited the Moon on the Apollo XIV mission (1971)...
@manbearpeeg Hulu! That's where I watched just about all of the episodes. There are a few missing in each season (4's the worst, think there's five missing), but any that are missing you can find right here on youtube!
@cheeseboy340 warp drive seems like it's the most realistic. Infact out of all the sci fi series, Star trek seems like the most realistic out of all of them as it explains warp drive and is closest to what modern day humans may do if they explored space.
My question is: Intersteller Travel. If we do discover FTL travel, what do you think it will be? Warp Drive? A Star Wars like Hyperdrive? The Punch a Hole in Space Halo Hyperdrive? Or Jumping from Battlestar Galactica?
For Star Trek: Enterprise, I feel like it did the show so much justice. What Enterprise did best was begin looking at how we could bridge our current culture and life to the future that was possible in Star Trek. Frankly, I think Enterprise was the best series because of how -human- the series was. Yes, the filming style was different and the music changed from its regular classical-style, but weren't we too? Remind yourself that this came after 9/11 - America needed to see something unique.
@lovemarty84 I think exploration goes toward both extremes - either really large lengths, like there are in space, or really small ones, where we reach the nanoscale. I do a lot of research on small length scales and let me tell you, it's like being in another universe. All the laws of physics you grew up with are barely useful. You feel like an alien trying to find its bearings constantly. There's still a lot left to explore down here...
I'm surprised this video is in widescreen instead of fullscreen. Did UPN launch a high-def station before they merged with the WB? I'd be surprised if they did.
@ricky122dbz You should be able to. They played this at my daughter's graduation yesterday. The lyrics are so fitting....I think the song itself was so awesome for the show esp the homage they paid to the pioneers of travel...

this is my first time seeing some stuff about Enterprise, never seen an episode. I'm a TNG and Voyager fan... I love the images of this opening credit... but i would have prefered an orchestra playing not some pop-rock singer... I guess it removes the Opera like, quality, I guess it bring the series to a more reality not to distant future... I would like to know the reasons on taking a real song for this instead of an orchestra!!
Think back to the star trek themes from the original movies. They are all powerful instrumentals composed of an entire orcestra. Same with TNG, DS9, and VOY. I guess that's what I consider "Star Trek themes". I'm just more accustomed to the originals and now they have Watson Russell singing about the past. Maybe it's just me.
At the moment, there is no scientific proof for a warpdrive so that's outa the question. and interstellar travel? not by a long shot. They only recently discovered that the fastest way out of this system(sol if you will) is traveling with the power of the sun. But the vastness between solar systems is too great, and no sunlight is being projected there. So i think it's safe to say that we can achieve this in no less then 50 years... regrettably
What were the showrunners thinking when they chose such an inappropriate song for the opening! Especially when compared to the great compositions of Alexander Courage, Jerry Goldsmith and Dennis McCarthy. I didn't want to continue watching the show at the time because of that song, and probably a lot of the others didn't either. The poor ratings of the series are probably also due to this song. Cause the series itself is very good and a feast for all fans in terms of stories and references to the original series!
The International Space Station was not an American accomplishment, it was multi-national so get off your Yankee high horse, the Soviets were in space before the Americans, that's fact that the Americans have to accept. Season 1 and 2 had the perfect opening, logo, and music to fit the series. Reserved and refined. I've watched the entire series multiple times now and I don't think I'll ever stop hating that change that was made to pander to the whiny dimwitted mouth breathers. Go watch FRIENDS or something if you fail to grasp the elegance of season 1 and 2's opening. Anyway... Enterprise is still a close tie for favorite trek for me (with TNG), even with this pandering butchery done to its opening sequence.
Nice straw-man there. Don't pretend I said something I didn't so that you can then criticize the absurd caricature you've created. Here are some other quotes about the remake of the theme. "Then it ruined that otherwise exciting visual feast by setting it to an awkward song about faith sung by a Rod Stewart knockoff, presumably because nothing says exploration and adventure like elevator rock. Later when they realized everyone hated it, they tried to fix it by speeding up the tempo. Like setting a Michael Bolton song to a Bossanova beat cranked out of a Casio, this made something bad even worse." "Like other aspects of the series, the theme song polarized fans. Online petitions were signed demanding its removal from the titles. A new arrangement of the song, with more percussion and orchestral backing, was introduced for the third season, this time eliciting criticism from fans who preferred the original version." "The title song, written by Dianne Warren and sung by Russell Watson, has been the subject of controversy since it was used in the Enterprise pilot. An attempt to jazz it up at the start of the third season only made bad music worse. No word on when it would happen but one fan's comment said it all; 'it couldn't happen soon enough.'" I happened to have loved the original. But even people who hated the original HATED THIS REMAKE VERSION EVEN MORE. Just google around, that seems to be the common consensus... no matter if people loved it or hated it to begin with, they pretty universally hated the remake that attempted to "pep it up" to appeal to a wider audience as part of the over-all attempt to salvage the show.
Between Voyager and Enterprise, I liked Enterprise way better. I like the characters better in Enterprise. In Voyager , the characters were so annoying. Enterprise delivered better. It was a better show.
Space is not the final frontier, for one day we will explore space, and then we shall travel even farther. Humanity will always have a next frontier, at one point it was the New World, then it was the moon. We're looking at Mars now, and God knows we're not going to stop there.
Ugghh this version just sounded so weird. I agree that the song took a bit of getting used to but it did grow on me in the 1st and 2nd seasons, and then they go and turn out this crap
@Rhymenoceros123 enterprise had unlikable characters. the only good actors in the crew were phlox and archer. the rest were one dimensional and no one liked them. Dude i have seen every episode of every trek series and as a trek fan enterprise is watchable. It is however the worst of the 5 main series. the intro song is horrible and it got worst in season 3 when they added that lame new riff. This theme song sounds like it should be the intro to the Dr phil show

good song. bad theme to star trek however
nope
Improved my arse, this version loses all the fealing of the original
I strongly agree!
I hated the original version, this is so much better. I used to turn the tune down before. Now I turn it up.
Very catchy.
I hate this version
Doesn't do thing for me . . . nothing at all.
