@@BuffaloBonsai He sure is! He’s a great guy. I’m super stoked for the catalpas, I hoping I’ll have some happy seedlings in the spring (or sooner)! Yeah forsythia are great, I love that spring color they get.
So cool for Tom to send you those. I also have been wanting to grow Catalpa, I've got my eye on some trees around here where I can pick me some "cigars" 🚬 Good luck with yours.
Cool CE! Some big cuts Dave. This will turn out nice come spring. That rock looks like a tooth from my view. Be careful not to get the lipstick on your sleeve.
@@growclipbonsaiforseniors1951 thanks! Yeah I’m excited to repot this one so I can reveal more of the sculpture. I could see how it would look like a tooth. Haha I’ll make sure to be careful with the lipstick! 💄
I had some caltalpa seeds.. laid them on soil, misted and covered pot with plastic, put somewhere warm and bright... sprouted in 3 days. They need light to sprout, so not sure plastic bag will work.
9:46 I’m kinda diggin this angle as a front. Shows off the movement, and cut the back branch short. Just my 2¢. Diggin the big chops on the elm, brother. Great bonsai work!
@@baldyeti Thank you, my friend! I appreciate it. After rewatching it again I agree with the front at 9:46, I like that angle too. This may be due for a repot in the coming months, so I’ll definitely adjust the front then.
Awesome little Chinese elm you've got going, it's the first time I've seen you work on it I think. The big chop you made is exactly where I would've made it, I think Tony would be proud 🫡. Looking forward to seeing the repot. Also, where do you keep your Chinese elm through winter?
@@DeciduousSnurb Thanks! Yeah it’s been awhile since I pruned this one, I have a playlist with any updates I’ve made on this Chinese elm (ruclips.net/p/PLz2l4CXfB_UI4EhD-ZTY46XZIxGdjEgNp&si=L9LSacja6ipbfweC) The past few years I stored my Chinese Elms in my attic where it can vary from 50F-65F. The Chinese Elms seem to be very tough. Honestly I wouldn’t doubt if I left one out in my Pennsylvania winter it would be fine.
@@dreamingofbonsai Thanks for the playlist. Sounds like a good spot. I normally keep mine in an unheated garage with a minimum temp of 32F or so, but this year I have a spare that I am experimenting with keeping it in the ground through winter here in zone 6b SE Indiana, so I'll have to let you know how that goes.
@@DeciduousSnurb oh nice, your garage seems like a pretty ideal temperature as well. I love to hear everyone’s winterizing techniques. Yeah let me know for sure if you can, I’m curious what the Chinese Elms can withstand.
Cool Dave Tom is a lovely bloke, great video 👊👊
Thanks, Andy! Tom sure is a great guy!
That is a cool trunk on the Forsythia. Good idea waiting till spring to decide. When we sleep on it, the solution comes in.
@@growclipbonsaiforseniors1951 thanks! Yeah I think I need some time to make the right decision on it. Good things come to those who wait!
Cool, tom is a legend! I planted some catalpa seeds from the tree down the street. Nice forsythia, i have 3 they grow well for me.
