Nirvana vs Courtney Love: The Court Battle Over Kurt’s Music, Rivalry Between Dave Grohl & Courtney

- The rivalry between Dave Grohl, Krist Novoselic & Courtney Love is the stuff of rock infamy. The trio went to court back in 2001 after Courtney tried to block the release of ‘You Know You’re Right’, a track the band recorded a few months before Cobain’s death. Despite the remaining Nirvana members wanting to place the unreleased song on a boxset to commemorate Cobain, Love thought the track would be better suited to a single disc collection. Her lawsuit deemed the song “a potential hit of extraordinary artistic and commercial value.”
After a tiring feud, with most of the attacks launched by Love, the pair made up in 2014 when Nirvana were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Love told Pitchfork that they reconciled backstage, “On my way to the bathroom, I saw Grohl, and Grohl saw me, and he came up to me, and I was like, ‘Alright, no matter what happens, we’re not going to be bastards.’ This was my attitude going in and obviously his. Not much else needs to be said. We both knew it was time to let go. We were ready to do it. It’s been twenty years. We didn’t even talk at the funeral, none of us. So 20 years of Dave bashing and me bashing, making it worse. All that stuff, the legal stuff, the trial. We just buried it. It was really deep.”

Imagine thinking you should own the rights to someone’s music that in the end didn’t want to be with you and who’s daughter doesn’t even want to know…. Yet she will fight for $$$$
One thing people need to remember is that Kurt was a full blown heroin addict in the last year of his life. When most people are that deep in an addiction they tend to hate anyone who isn't an addict. I think there was even a quote somewhere by Krist (I think it was him?) saying how Kurt was pushing him and everyone else away and living with junkies in his final months.
Junkies are a very insular xenophobic group. They do not want non-users around them. They will tell a non-user hanging out to go away, get the hell out of here. In an interview with Dave Grohl, he was asked if he hung around Kurt Corbin near the end and he very adamantly stated no. He then explained that you were either in that clique of heroin users or you were not, and if you were not a user then you were not welcome to them to the point of being shunned

Courtney Love's only redeeming quality is that she helped Mark Lanegan go to rehab. That's it.

grohl does respond to the assertion that kurt didn't like him in some interviews, maybe more recently. I think he said that looking at old photos they were laughing and stuff like that...

Flash in the pan? A flash in the pan doesn't go on selling and influencing like Nirvana. Nirvana may have been short-lived, but a 'flash in the pan' is a completely wrong way of describing them or what they did. A flash in the pan doesn't get in the rock n roll hall of fame.
I think a "flash in the pan" reminds me of the old camera flashes, the thing that held powdered magnesium "that explodes brightly when the camera goes off",how is that not the perfect description. I loved the era and music of Nirvana, and you must admit that is exactly what happened.

That phrase is meant to demean someone or a group that was only famous or important for a short while as if they didn't have enough to sustain anything but a quick flash. That doesn't apply to Nirvana because despite the short time they were around, they keep living on by inspring and affecting way more than that phrase implies. Flahes in a pan don't amount to much. Nirvana did and does. You can think whatever you want.

- Courtney's 'get arrested' alibi note: in same handbag was a reminder note from Courtney saying 'get arrested', which coincidentally Courtney was arrested at time of Kurt's death
- Fatal dose of heroin: autopsy reveals Kurt had a level of heroin which, as Courtney's PI, Tom Grant, says 'no human in history has ever not died instantly with such a level recorded, five times the fatal level, even for heavy users'; let alone have enough time to apparently neatly pack away the heroin kit for some reason, aim the gun and shoot.
It's for these and other unusual events why Courtney's PI, Tom Grant, says 'Kurt did not commit suicide with '100% certainty'

Bipolar disorder, chronic stomach pain, addiction, a family history of self-deletion, childhood trauma, previous self-deletion attempts & the stresses of stardom and fatherhood made Kurt the posterboy for self deletion. I find it sexist that you're immediately jumping to Courtney's side simply because its two men up against a woman who has unprovable accusations of bad things. Courtney was an addict and being married to an addict will only further your drug addictions. Also, is 1/3 of everything made by a band with three members really unfair? Let's do some basic maths, Dave Grohl and Krist Novoselic were two of the three members, meaning they get two thirds. Even split, fair as you can get. Now, left, there's one third. That one third is all there is to be inhereted by Kurt's estate.
@@TheAtomicPunkLmao Kurt Cobain wrote all Nirvana's songs, they are songwriting credits that go to his estate, Krist and Dave have no claim on them. You may think that's unfair but take it up with Kurt as he's the one who organized this.
@@Danathema Kurt did not write the drums or bass to those songs, and Krist was more involved in the organisation than you seem to think. Nirvana was initially just him and Kurt, and they were the only constant members. Krist also got them their first record deal.
