- I had a huge expectation for this match to be the greatest ever as USSR won the gold in the previous year (Seoul Olympic), and my favorite Smirnova/Parkhomchuk/Luis/Carvajal were in this game. But this day, all of the Cuban member played extremely good volleyball. I enjoyed Cuban performance but ended up having mixed feeling.......

Este era un nuevo equipo Cubano, atras quedaban las veteranas Josefina Capote,Nancy Gonzales y Lazara Gonzales, y Norka Latamblet entre otras, y quizas por eso el sistema ofensivo sovietico se vio sorprendido por el impetu y poder de las jovenes cubanas que tenian en caso de alguna emergencia a la leyenda Imilsis Tellez,que entraba solo cuando las dos nuevas levantadoras, Tania Ortiz y Lilia Izquierdo se veian abrumadas,cosa que era inusual.En lineas generales este equipo cubano ha sido el mejor que halla visto al comenzar la decada de los 90s.Ambas escuadras se volverian a enfrentar en 1991, y la historia seria distinta,ya que las sovieticas derrotarian por ultima vez a las cubanas por 3-0 en la Copa del Mundo clasificatorio a Barcelona 92'que a pesar de eso vio al equipo caribeno campeonar por mejor diferencia de puntos.En 1992 ,Cuba conseguiria su primera medalla de Oro olimpica enfrentando a este mismo equipo sovietico ( sin su levantadora Irina Parkhomchuk ) ,pero bajo la bandera de "Equipo Unificado",debido a los cambios politicos en la Union Sovietica.Cuba derrotaria a Equipo Unificado por un peleado 3-1.
Bravo Cuba orgullo del volleyball en latino américa.Al entrenador ruso debieron expulsarlo del partido.

@@Samuel-iv6qb What is the connection between that and their age man? I did not say anything about provoking or not. We were talking about their age here. And whatever they did was not due to age. I have seen Russians, Brazilians, Italians doing the same the all time regardless their age.
another great match marking the ascendancy of the Cuban 1990s team. This is the most flexible match I've seen the Cubans play in terms of positions with Mireya and Lilia at times playing in the middle, Regla Bell and Mireya at times hitting from position 2 and the middles, Magaly and Mercedes, playing open hitters with great success. Interesting result as well as this was only a year after USSR got the gold and the team was more less intact.
Those were their golden years..But its far different now, countries like USA, Brazil, Turkey, S. Korea etc., are now dominating the volleyball stage...

Se quejan que no hay jugadoras altas y Mireya Luis , con 1.75 se tiraba cualquier torre de 3 metros de alto , era espectacular esta mujer y si estuviera en tiempos actuales jugando simplemente seria espectacular .
Sí, pero Mireya es una sola,,, olvidate, que eso es de CUNA, dificilmente saldrá otra jugadora tan "pequeña" con ese poder de salto, era IMNANTO

Llama la atención la formación de Cuba, Mireya por ejemplo atacando a veces por centro o Magaly y Calderon por esquina, eso no se volvió a ver en los 90s donde Magaly y Regla Torres solo atacaban por centro y Mireya, Regla Bell solo por esquina, no entiendo por que luego ya en los 90s no lo siguieron haciendo, cuando creo que el hecho de que se moverán mas en los 80s hacia menos predecible el ataque cubano
Si tienes razón eso era en los 80' y para mí creo que era mejor ya que no predecian el ataque, en sí todas eran buenas rematadoras, creo que lo hicieron porque en los 90' el voley empezó a agarrar más nivel con profesionalismo y el hecho de ver jugar a una central en posición 4 no es muy bueno, amenos que sea una buena atacante que si se podía con Magaly Carvajal por ejemplo. Pero aparte de eso tmb lo hicieron por un tema de orden ya que al estar así, no había una posición correcta y podría aver confusiones a la hora de sacar y en el momento del partido puede haber más confusión ya que si no se coordinaban antes podría haber un caos.
Mi amiga Magaly Carvajal haciendo de las suyas a su muy corta edad en ese entonces.........igualmente Regla Bell y Lili Izquierdo......y Merecedes Calderon, Tania Ortiz y Mireya reafirmando con su juego y talento que Seul 88 debio ser para ellas !!!
RAFA AMARILLAS pero eso no te consta como puedes estar seguro q realmente Cuba hubiera ganado las olimpiadas en el 88 porque por si no lo sabes en ese mismo año se realizó la súper challenge cup en China y a la final llegaron urss vs cuba y en el quinto set urss le gana por 15 a 10 el voley no tiene lógicas luego al siguiente año en el 89 Cuba gana la copa del mundo, pero en el 90 urss gana el mundial y saca a cuba de cuartos de final yo creo q mas fue Zic Zac entre Rusia vs Cuba hasta q en 1991 si empezó el reinado cubano

Todavía hay quienes cuestionan que esta Cuba de 1989 (subcampeona mundial) era una de las favoritas de haber asistido a Seúl 88’.
Aquí está la prueba:
3x0 al campeón olímpico (URSS/1988)
3x1 al campeón mundial (China/1986)
3x0 al subcampeón olímpico (Perú/ 1988)
3x0 también a potentes escuadras como Alemania Oriental, Corea del Sur y Japón.
Terminaron invictas (con un solo set perdido, ante China) en esta copa del mundo. Por cierto, también el equipo masculino ganó la copa mundial, convirtiendo a Cuba en la primera y única nación en la historia del volleyball en ganar las copas del mundo en ambos sexos un mismo año.

Para mí, esto es muy personal, Carvajal y Mireya eran mejor que Regla Torres, pero la FIVB seleccionaron a Torres como la mejor jugadora del siglo pasado

Regla Torres era ambas cosas.y serenaba a su equipo.
Magaly no pudo participar más en competencias internacionales después de irse de Cuba en 1996 o 1997. No sé exactamente el año. Eso también influyó en la decisión de la FIVB porque Regla jugó más partidos importantes que Magaly en la década de los 90 y lo hizo muy bien. No se le puede quitar su mérito. Lo bueno es que el premio de la atleta del siglo se quedó en Cuba junto con el premio de la atleta de la década.
@@marcotuliomercadal6887 Regla Torres era una jugadora de una carácter muy difícil. Eso lo dijo ella misma en una entrevista. Además, se puede apreciar en algunos juegos de cuando era aún muy joven como se enfadaba si le decían algo al cometer un error. Hay un juego contra Rusia o Brasil en la Olimpiada de 1992 donde se puede ver lo que te digo. Lo de serenar al equipo lo aprendió de Mireya Luis. Mireya se reunía con cada integrante del equipo de manera privada y compartía con ellas todo lo malo y lo bueno. Por ejemplo, Mercedes Calderón era una jugadora muy inhibida a la que solo Mireya sabía llegar completamente. Eso lo dijo Mireya en una entrevista. Los gestos de mano que hacía Regla Torres para serenar al equipo en el 2000 son lo mismos gestos que hacía Mireya cuando era la capitana del equipo. Regla es sin duda la mejor bloqueadora de todos los tiempos junto a Magaly, pero lo más espectacular del voleibol mundial ha sido Mireya Luis. Eso lo dijo el mismo Eugenio George.

Hi Mireya Fan....I will say hi to Magaly on your behalf. I do agree that the match between Peru and the USSR was a wonderful one. I cheered for the peruvians until the end. I consider that match to be one of the top 5 all time matches. Yet it would have been a delight to have my ESPECTACULARES MORENAS DEL CARIBE in that competition fighting for the medals. Best regards.

Este partido es a mi parecer muy desigual, Cuba supera por mucho a URSS no entiendo porque tanta algarabía ni parece final, CUBA muy por encima de este equipo.
Esa URSS era la actual campeona olímpica en ese entonces. Si Cuba hubiera participado en esa olimpiada tal vez hubiera sido las campeonas.

Algunos comentan sobre el encuentro entre Perú y la URSS en los juegos de Seúl 88 y que hubiese pasado si el equipo cubano hubiese participado en dicho evento pero olvidan que al año siguiente, en el mundial de China 90, el equipo cubano no consiguió estar en el primer ni en el segundo lugar. 😂
