Picked up this game for $20 today. Really nice shooter, easy to play. It has a feel like Starcraft II with the hightech mixed with infection. Definitely recommend, particularly at the sub-$100 prices it current goes for. Many Treasure/Creative games are now hundreds of dollars.
i am trying to remember a game quite like this all i can recall is tow giant squids disguised as alies coming out and distroing me on the 2nd lvl got eny ideas
For the price this game goes for, this is A MUST for any shooter fans to add to their collection. Awesome shmup by Treasure + Game Arts and published by Working Designs for $30? What more could you ask for?
I PLAYED THIS ON THE ARCADES....WICH MAKES ME WONDER WTF DID I PLAY BACK THEN? THIS SEEMS SO DIFFERENT BUT I CANT SEEM TO FIND ANY INFO/REFERENCE TO THAT VERSION ANYWHERE
after Wind Squid, nothing will be the same any more. we will all be wearing ironing boards for hats, and sing the National Wind Squid Anthem, a song with 30,000 different words, set to a fugal version of the Benny Hill theme song. after Wind Squid, mankind can finally leap forward and begin its next evolutionary stage. i will bow for you, Wind Squid god. i will bow.
I am aware of a game creator called Shoot'em Up Construction Kit. It permits anyone to create a Shoom style game without having to know programming. Sadly, it's 22 years outdated and runs on tech too weak for Wind Squid's needs. Update this software and we've got something.
I personally think that the third boss of this game is an alien hamster in its wheel shooting lasers, bullets and energy bombs all over, just because it's hungry. Nothing special, altouhg it's kinda challenging putting this "little guy" back to sleep.
Of course the soundtrack sucks. Around this time, Working Designs was seriously hemorrhaging money due to their unwillingness to develop for other platforms due to a feud between WD's Victor Ireland and Sony's Bernie Stolar . WD's move to Sony only happened because Stolar was picked up by Sega.... Or you can blame it on their expensive packaging, since most of their games were either only deluxe releases or came in foil-stamped cases. Either way, they made some awesome games.
How to take down energy field surrounding a planet or moon: 1) steal a shuttlecraft from the enemy 2) land on the planet 3) be friend of a bunch of children in furry outfits 4) go after the shield generator with rocks, stones, a couple of sticks with rocks (actually attached to them)
Silpheed 1: Super dogfighter Silpheed 1.5 or something: Silpheed (SEGA CD) Silpheed 2 (somehow): The lost planet Silpheed 3?: Project Sylpheed Silpheed 4?: Alternative
The narrator's voice sounds like the voice of Alucard from Castlevania: Symphony of the Night (the original PS1 version, not the re-dubbed version on PSP). And guess what? It's him! Robert Belgrade.
This happens to be one of my favorite games of all time! This video is going in my favorites.

I love the guy in the intro that's like "Holy Shiiiiiiiiiii-" BOOM!!!
isn't the dude that starts talking at 00:40 from the first tenchu? he used to read the mission objectives and stuff before every mission!

Windsquid pre-order link please?
I remember playing this game in 2004. Problem was I couldn’t save and every time I died I had to start all the way from the beginning
The voice acting in the game's opening is ridiculous.
Also, WIND SQUID!
The voiceover sounds so familiar...is that Alucard from Castlevania SOTN?!
Still waiting for that Wind Squid game Mark, lol.
I'm pretty sure Treasure already did Wind Squid. It's called Sin and Punishment Star Successor.
shouldent there be no smoke in space, because there is no air to accommodate combustion??/....
shadowmalik009 same with sound. Maybe nobody has actually ever been to space. I’ll know it’s real when I go.
YOU ALSO NEED TO SEND YOURSELF OUT THE SHIP WITH NO SUIT...THEN YOU LET US KNOW

Mark you're idea for windsquid sure reminds me of Parodius.
I remember not being able to save my progress and always having to start from the beginning.
when is wind squid coming out?
just throw on the sound track to thunderforce IV and your set!
Is this related at all to the Project Sylpheed game on 360?
Awesome review.

if you listen really close the guy narrating the intro sounds like alucard from sotn..ill have to see if im right
How come int the intro you go from really old consoles to ps3 and xbox 360? Did you sleep through the noughties?

WORKING DESIGN!!!!!!!!!! RIP you amazing devs
They're not developers. They were just publishers, like Xseed today. The game was developed by Treasure. So RIP Treasure.

I miss this intro!
"HOLY SHIIIIIIIIIT"

Who else thinks that Parodius is the perfect series of schmups for mark ?

The game looks and sounds a lot like Raystorm for PS1! I like it!
Treasure game, that's enough to know it's a good game.

Ok. Problem spotted immediately. SYLPHEED??? This isn't xbox you know. (xbox game is called sylpheed, PS2 game is called silpheed).
This sounds like this guys brain has melted. :)
I prefer Wind Squid tempora myself with a side order of Sushimi and California rolls. ;)
thats just the way he talks
The original Silpheed on the Sega CD was awsome! I Loved the epic soundtrack. But this sequal sucked
Finally got that wormhole in Ohio plugged up back in 2018.
2 true dude
Wind squid lol.
The narrator's voice sounds like the voice of Alucard from Castlevania: Symphony of the Night (the original PS1 version, not the re-dubbed version on PSP).
And guess what? It's him!
Robert Belgrade.
the more you know ^-^
And you'll find nothing will have happened.
Nope D:
Shame on me for selling this...
... That little rent of yours could've done without... Made the review unbearable
xD hillarious
The narrator for this game sounds as bored as bored Mark!
Zardozzzzz
you have such a one toned voice... i cant tell when you are joking or if your serious... couldn't you put a bit more character into your reviews?
eh, original is better
You don't really sound enthusiastic doing this video.
That's just his style. He has a very dry sense of humor.
