Final Fantasy XII. So easy to get lost in it's world
Odin sphere, suikoden V, tales of the abyss, disgaea, shin megami tensei nocturne, even wild arms 5 all are great rpg on PS2
Didn't see FF11 in it, game absolutely blew away other RPGs

For those Shadow Hearts fans! They are making a new game called Penny Blood. it's a spiritual successor of Shadow Hearts. They also teamed up with Final Fantasy composer Nobuo Uematsu to composed music for the game!
So happy to see rogue galaxy on this list. It was my personal favorite rpg on the ps2. Having the ability to have your partners ask for commands while fighting is so good. Love the story and the traveling to distant worlds. Each is different and so much intrigue. The side missions are great.
Just picked it up for $20. Surprisingly cheap for such a popular exclusive

it’s shame you didn’t pick Tales of the abyss since that was the most popular tales of game on the ps2 and you pick the ps2 version of tales of symphonia which only Japan exclusive on the ps2

Yeah I like Symphonia more (though I give combat to Abyss). But if we're gonna talk PS2 games, definitely should've been the Abyss that got the slot over Symphonia.
FFX, KH2 and Star Ocean 3 are probably my top rpgs from the PS2 era.
SO3 is so underrated a game shame more haven’t played it.
Tales of symphonia was only Japan exclusive on the ps2, western fans could only play GameCube, Ps3 and pc version of game

@@OneRealOG Wrong, because the game is in English in this video and in japanese on the PS2.
true. playing on real ps2 back then, only saw ToS in JP only, while video clearly shows in english. not sure even there's fantranslations available either. Tales of the Abyss should be here instead since it was masterpiece as well.
While video did say "their video, their rules", still shud have their facts checked. Quite fatal mistake in my book albeit rest of featured titles are mostly inline with mine preferences.
@@mrnygren2 well still if you are playing the remastered version on ps3 it is technically a remaster of the ps2 game which makes it a ps2 game. if it was a remake not a remaster then it could be considered a legit ps3 game.
The summer I spent 100%ing Kingdom Hearts 2 is one of my most cherished memories.
Shadow Hearts Covenant deserves so much more recognition, thanks!

To be fair it wasn’t nearly as complex or confusing than any other game after it, things were simple and even a bit deeper, The empty shell left behind are nobodies that’s the enemy, that’s literally it, aside from things expanded upon from 1, the story though in 2 was a lot deeper and memorable and the ending is arguably as impactful as the first, it’s quite literally the only time you actually get to be with Kiari

Final Fantasy X was my favorite game of all time for 20 years. I still love to go back and play it. Final Fantasy XII and The Lord of the Rings: The Third Age are also really good RPG’s.

Final Fantasy X and Kingdom Hearts 2 we're literally the first PS2 games I've ever played. Nice to see them on this list!
I remember picking up the 1st kingdom hearts for the first time in a game shop thinking what is this i brought it and played and it blew my mind then i got all the other games then i got the kh collection on ps4/ps5
Radiata stories one of the greatest games most people have never heard of
Yup love this game, same with the suikoden series.
@@absoluteclownworld yeah but those are getting remade or remastered I doubt we ever see love like that for radiata stories and it's a huge bummer it was a borderline masterpiece
@@Zypher2887 At the least suikoden I and II are getting a light coat of paint.. hard to say III - V will or not. Ya Radiata Stories probably won't see that treatment but at least it's still affordable to buy a cib copy. It was like $10-$20 for the longest time, now around $40+ I think. People need to get it while they can lol
@@absoluteclownworld look more into suikoden video I watched made it sound like they were planning the whole series first 2 games were only a start I never played them myself but I will definitely check out the remasters
Radiata Stories really is my favorite PS2 game. I love the characters so much. There is two manga series if you want to read them. One about Jack, and another about Ridley.
I dig that, "To Zanarkand", played in the background for the entirety of this video.
Shadow Hearts and Shadow Hearts: Covenant are 2 of my all time favorite games. They are actually sequels to a PSX game Koudelka and did have a sequel called Shadow Hearts: From the New World, but it didn't do as well as Covenant Covenant.
I played all of em, looking at walkthroughs to finish the games 100% and got all secret equipments. Shame they dont make shadow hearts series again

PS2 has the richest and probably the best library of JRPG until now. There were so many of them on the platform, that some of them even went unnoticed and unfortunately got sequels or didn't get much attention due to a lack of good advertisement etc. For example I'd give the title of the best JRPG on PS2 to Xenosaga Episode 3, and I'm sure if it was out today, (any part of it), it would get much more attention and love than it got back then, and also due to a wrong title given in press (I remember some journalists were calling it potential Final Fantasy killer, only because ppl who made it were ex-employees of Squaresoft years before, and thus comparing those series was quite stupid imho).
I never had a PS2, but Im so happy I got DQ8 on my 3DS and FF10 on my switch lite so I can play both
Some of these really need to be remastered for modern consoles.
I don't know if it deserves to be on this list, but I enjoyed playing Mega Man X: Command Mission. I love that they made a turn-based RPG entry for Mega Man.
It definitely deserves to be on the list. Command Mission was a great Rpg and had a unique battle system that almost resembled Legend of Legaia. It is usually overshadowed though because of the PS2 having some pretty legendary Rpgs.
Wild Arms 3, Suikoden 3 were both really good as well!
Right series, wrong parts. Wild Arms 5 and Suikoden 5 are far better than part 3 for both series IMO.

Oh, and recently uncovered evidence suggests Rogue Galaxy was meant to be Dark Cloud 3.
Final Fantasy X is legitimately favorite RPG of all time I remember when I finished it all those years ago I got depressed because the story was over.
And this is why many consider the PS2 the greatest console of all time. I remember sinking hours into just about all these games and every last one of you named was a banger. You couldn't really go wrong with any PS2 RPG.
I like the ps3 best but there are some ps2 games that I will always hold dear to me.
Auron, best character in any jrpg. Wise, lonely, cynical and a bit rough but also brave and kind of heart, plus he was an unsent all the time and the fact he is a 35yrs that looks like a man in his 50s also add charm.
Also the best voice actor, in the English cast at least. Despite being the 1st FF with voice acting, Auron never sounded weird, unlike most of the rest of the cast.
A good list, though it's missing Wild Arms 5 and Legaia 2 Duel Saga.
Tales of Symphonia wasn't on ps2? This was a GameCube Game.

Ok, I know this is subjective, but Nocturne over Persona. And how is ‘Star Ocean: Til the End of Time’ not on this list?
I suspect Til the End of Time's ending might have had something to do with its exclusion.

I desperately need Xenosaga trilogy to get remastered because Xenosaga 3 is too expensive.

Samurai Legend Musashi was a good RPG. Not great due to the slow pace but nice none-the-less.
Finished Rogue Galaxy a few months ago for the first time. What a great game!?

Man, I hate the lack of recognition to Grandia saga, specially Grandia II. I wish they'd make a remake but it is so underated that it doesn't even show up in these lists and Square Enix will never drop off any on going FF project to work on a forgotten saga.

Final Fantasy X is in my opinion the Best PS2 game. And in my opinion, the best Final Fantasy. But I won’t argue with anyone who says VI, VII or IX is the best.
I even love X-2 as well

Metal Gear Solid and FFX changed my life.
Do people still not realize that the "bad laughing" scene in FFX was them laughing awkwardly on purpose? They literally do normal laughs right afterwards and obviously the rest of the voice acting is good. It's so obvious in context that I can't help but wonder why people decided to show it off out of context in order to misrepresent the game. There's no way anyone didn't understand what was happening.
Also, while I'm at it, I'll just say that I'm not sure how you could consider KH2's story to be easier to follow and I primarily consider Symphonia to be a Gamecube game. It's literally to this day the best on Gamecube.
FFX of course and KH series and Persona and Dark cloud and a ton more lol Lets just say all the major ps2 hits from racing games to shooters to sports games etc are my favorite. Hell the Ps2 is still my most loved console of all time.

I'm actually new to these games and playing them on Aether emulator, it's nice to be able to play a lot of the entire PS2 era I completely missed.

I have 182 hours on Final Fantasy X on Xbox one X! And 500+ hours on all the Kingdoms hearts together.

Ps2 is a golden era for JRPGs. I like the list, but instead of Symphonia, I'll put Abyss in. Instead of Persona 4, I'll put Persona 3. I haven't heard Rogue Galaxy since i played it last back in 2010. My personal favorites also included Suikoden V, Growlanser, Drakengard, Radiata Stories and Star Ocean till the end of time. There's also Grandia and Wild Arms. Mana Khemia and Ar Tonelico. Also Dokapon Kingdom, a chill game. God i miss the old days.
Disgaea 1 and 2
Of these collection my first favorite is showers covenant I love it and I hope to make a new version or sequel the second is final fantasy x it was a classic and best game I ever got at that time and my third favorite is dark cloud 2 i I played the first one and I was happy with the second one I wish they make another one those games are the best I deserve to be remembered for all time.

One of the reasons why PS2 is still the greatest console of all time simply because of its games that took hours to beat and yet still not 100% complete. Compared to the consoles with better graphics, developers created shorter games due to graphics.
When MojoPlays uses footage from an emulator for Shadow Hearts Covenant instead of real capture footage 😭
Great selection of games here. FFX, KH2 and Shadow Hearts are well remembered. I liked Arc: Twilight Of The Spirits. And Legia 2 Duel Saga A well.
ToA should be on the list no diss to ToS which is a JPN PS2 exclusive to begin with. ToA even introduced free running which all succeeding titles adapted.

Final Fantasy X was cool but XII was even better. Those hunts were awesome and the side quests were actually useful in building on the story, world and lore rather than pointless fetch quests. Who can forget about a whole race of bunny chicks? The art style was absolutely stunning. Same one from games like Nier Automata and Final Fantasy XIV. A shame it initially launched at the tail end of the PS2 lifecycle around when the PS3 was the next big thing. Glad it was rereleased and made even better.
