I’m Running is one of their best songs of all time - very progressive. When it gets to the part “ See through science Part of a back door A door made up of doors To an endless time To a new world I was like.. dang, this is like one of the best moments of a small set of 5th Dimension songs - just outstanding “out of the box” expansion of the melodic structure - transcendent,.. has to be Jon Anderson writing that bit. And Chris’s bass is so “Chris”. Absolutely love the song !
We are spiritually driven by our thoughts, i'm glad to be directed to this awesome video. The most significant thing I listen to is the persistence music and visuals but I do receive the message. Blessings don't stop doing what you're doing.
This song has so much "drive" and it goes so fast I sometime have difficulty to follow every passage. I have the impression that it must have been a hell of a job to piece this composition together! One of the most complicated pieces of artrock I've ever heard!
This song exemplified the out of the world talents of all five members. Squire’s bass is amazing, Rabin shredding it on guitar and Jon Anderson’s vocals are electric!
Dang I still love this song and it feels right on target in these divisive times- always love how these guys, in whatever iteration brought a glimmer of love and unity to the song's message. The multi layers of sound and rhythm still work their Yes magic on me. did anyone every hear them play this live? Gotta say the visuals were interesting
John Carpenter saw them play this during the Big Generator tour. Love the song then and even more now. I wasn't a fan of big Generator then but now.......wow I finally caught up with it.
90215 and Big Gen had some GREAT Yes songs...most of the stuff after Tormato is not purist Yes ,but it is stilll light years better than all other bands...this song is another Yes masterwork... !!
Of course, I like most of Yes albums and songs. But I don't know why I am always fascinated by this song. Probably it is because it has Chris' great bassline, a well-thought production and construction, and wonderful chorus work by Jon, Chris and Trevor.
This is an energetic piece that incorporated so many divergent paths! Probably too complex for the general public...and possibly old YES fans, as well! The massive energy produced is enough (IMHO) to rate this masterpiece among the top of YES' creative highs!
Yes well said...too complex for old yes fans? A bit condescending, dont you think? We who enjoy close to the edge, relayer and tales from topographic oceans just might grasp this!
dear unwknown friends the problem of old fans was a true things, not accepting what was new at that time, so new to remain innovative today, as very often in the Yes life path. so if you have not such problems with 90125, big generator and also drama, these arguments are not for you, though your age. in my case i admit to have main problem with what Yes produced after this point, for me steve howe was no more able to create something truly new but only refreshing the past, and the albums sounds old, no more for present day watching the future. jon anderson was so confused too but i think i have to accept that due their age. Rabin was the new thing so Talk remains as the last trying to stay in the future
I started LONG AGO with The Yes Album, and have been a stalwart fan with a lapse between BG and OYE (due to intense academic activity) ever since, and that really is a long time! LOL... I know that many of my 'vintage' discount the Yes of the '80's, but I accept it as another era in the creative lives of amazing artists. Do I cast aside this period, saying that it doesn't really represent the band? Absolutely not! It's still Squire, Anderson, White, and others who came and went (though Rabin came and pretty much stayed). Is it more commercially accessible than the Yes of the '70's? Of course it is, but does that mean they were less creatively invested than previous incarnations? I think not... Are they speaking in a different voice than before? Of course they are, and though it may not be the same experience for those looking to accentuate a "chemically fueled" session of vinyl and headphones, it is still the amazing fruit of some of the masters of prog... My opinion being that >> I'm Running (and yes, maybe not the entire BG recording) is fine evidence that the inventive core of the band was still there, though clearly to remain a force in the music world, they would have to speak in a more accessible language. We proggers had a choice to make then and now.... and I choose to embrace what came from that time. I finally even listened to TALK recently (after enjoying "I am Waiting" on the current YES tour), and though I know it will never be one of my 'go-to' records, I get how some would embrace it (in a way that I COULDN'T embrace the first Asia album!) ... Did I embrace 90125 when it was first released? Not remotely! But now it has some of my go-to songs (maybe because as I grew up, I understood more what they HAD to do musically to survive and thrive!)... For old timers like me, it was tough to accept, but when BG was released, it was obvious that the new sound was here to stay, so at that point I dove in, and really was rewarded by some of the more understated elements of outstanding pieces like Shoot High, Aim Low, I'm Running, Rhythm of Love, Final Eyes and even Holy Lamb. Long Time fans, if you listen, you will find the heart of Yes beating deeply and richly in songs like I'm Running. I encourage you to listen again and find the gems of the '80's, and forgive them for not producing the masterworks of the past. We've all grieved over the passing of that era, but are we really willing to write off what came after GFTO ? That's a WHOLE LOT OF MUSIC which so many other bands can only DREAM of measuring up to!
The last 2 minutes of this song just builds and builds until my head explodes. This is how I imagined music written in the 21st century would be like not all this hip hop shit. ❤️
bluestate69 I honestly don't think the name is that off-base. Not that I would argue against certain other choices. Jacaranda has always intrigued, but still not fully reflective of the story behind the song. If it's anything like "finalize", or should I say "final eyes", I am sure there is much more to the real story...
I was being a bit tongue in cheek for the most part! But in Yes's progressive past, they would have named the prologue, interlude, and epilogue sections to their music. This song reminded me of that period, because the song is longer, and more "proggish" than the rest of the album.
Still listening in 2023. If anyone plays the Choices games on your phone....the Endless Summer story.....many songs from this album but especially this one could've been j the soundtrack if they ever did a movie on that story. The story line is that good, they really could have made a movie.
At the time I remember liking this album a lot and thinking what is wrong with people when Pink Floyd's latest sold 3 million but this one struggled to sell one million.
I never really listened too much....fast forward . ..I'm a YES FAN...13 times live....but it was good.. ..I thought Shoot High, and Final eyes , the high point... But listening again....a jazz fusion/Prog Spanish folk combination. Nearly everything YES has created is great.
Fun fact, that bass riff goes all the way back to a demo session in 1980 with Squire, White, and Steve Howe before the Drama album was made. ruclips.net/video/KReH6IQKypw/видео.html
I'm a big fan of their 1970's stuff, liked the ABWH record, and a few things here and there post 1970s i.e. "Angkor Wot", "It Will Be a Good Day" - nice. Just listened to the very simple, beautifully performed, lushly melodic, and poetically written "A Venture" on The Yes Album... this "I'm Running" song, lyrics, production, melody, it all makes me feel like crying, like when I was a little kid running barefoot and slipping and falling in a big steaming pile of dog shit on a torrid summer day.
i think the OP needs to understand how the game works...criticizing cos of the gap between BG and 9015...remember there are bands out ther that take 6-8 years between product
The description for this album sounds pathetic and yet many of the songs here are as potent and psychedelic as anything Yes ever made, especially "I'm Running."
I always wonder why Big Generator has such a quiet mix compared to the rest of the catalog? Its such a great record but I don't like the mix. Sounds so quiet and small but the songs are massive.
Hay watch it you would be surprised what we see have seen and you have not u.s. of that which you referred to have forgotten temporarily more than you have learned . And we Acid heads and Vietnam vets who dropped LSD in the Nam and loaded rockets on there Cobra. And still hit clear light . Well we are very complex.🏹🏹🏹🏹🏹🏹🏹🏹🏹🏹🏹🏹☄️☄️☄️☄️🌑🌑🐝🐝🤰🏻🤰🏻🤱🤱⚛️✝️🛸🛸🛸🛸🌹🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🕎⚖️🎺🎺🎺🎺🎺🎺🎺😎🎩🌍🌎🌏🎶🏹🌑🇺🇸🔯🐅🐅
Scott Harbison Probably too complex for the general public... yep ! but so '' Flavourful '' for the ones who need more or want to practice Their listening
I will always remember Chris Squire's solo " The Fish", from the album "Fragile." Such stories sung through music are the tales of the future, and the past.
Stunning. One of the very best Yes pieces.
Absolutely!
As a bassist and a HUGE squire fanatic this is one of my fav's to play from his vast catalog. Very overlooked album and song.
My favorite bassist.Chris Squire, " The Fish"- awesome...
Progging it on a wonderful Sunday. Haven't listened to this album in a while, but I consider it to be one of the most underrated works by Yes.
Scott Thornton Big Generator is a brilliant recording!!!
I’m Running is one of their best songs of all time - very progressive. When it gets to the part “
See through science
Part of a back door
A door made up of doors
To an endless time
To a new world

love the counting in this. It's so clever. I don't understand why this one wasn't recognized by more people.
The part at 7:01 is brilliant.
Wow. I had so forgotten this song. As I hear it again I am blown away once again. Every note a Yes master piece!
Welcome back!
nice song i never knew it existed but when i saw rick beato video i had to listen
yeah, me too, thanks Rick
Overlooked gem of a song. Love the harmonizing at the end. Gorgeous.
Big Generator is a brilliant record!!!.
I love YES ... i love BIG GENERATOR.....masterpiece....amazing era of , YES.
We are spiritually driven by our thoughts, i'm glad to be directed to this awesome video. The most significant thing I listen to is the persistence music and visuals but I do receive the message. Blessings don't stop doing what you're doing.
Great YES song...thanks for share...
Excellent harmonies and lyrics. Amazing band. Chris Squire was so good on Bass he is Sorely Missed one of the best songs on the album
I think of Gibson's cyberpunks stories.
I think of smoking a Joint and going elsewhere for about 2 hours.
Super rhytmic songs Big Generator !
This song has so much "drive" and it goes so fast I sometime have difficulty to follow every passage. I have the impression that it must have been a hell of a job to piece this composition together! One of the most complicated pieces of artrock I've ever heard!
Enjoy your forever life brother... you were the greatest bassist ever.... give the Lord a hig for me
This song exemplified the out of the world talents of all five members. Squire’s bass is amazing, Rabin shredding it on guitar and Jon Anderson’s vocals are electric!
Very underrated album. Still classic YES
It took me thirty-six years to appreciate the gorgeous complexities of this song.
Dang I still love this song and it feels right on target in these divisive times- always love how these guys, in whatever iteration brought a glimmer of love and unity to the song's message. Phenomenal... I LOVE these guys xxx

+Scott Harbison I doubt people who were familiar with SOUND CHASER had a problem understanding this piece.
Yes well said...too complex for old yes fans? A bit condescending, dont you think? We who enjoy close to the edge, relayer and tales from topographic oceans just might grasp this!

I'm an old Yes fan, and I love this song and album. 😃👍
For me,this is a great Yes album. Not up there with Fragile and Close to the Edge, maybe, but a great contemporary album. Still sounds good to me.
For sure. These days it's very much unfairly maligned by most Yes fans almost as much as Union(which I also don't think is THAT bad).
peter mcguigan BG is ‘different’ ...yet very good!!!....it’s not CTTE or GFTO....but still very good!!!

Exquisite song.
The only song on BG that approaches the complexity and grandeur of Yes' epic past.
The last 2 minutes of this song just builds and builds until my head explodes. This is how I imagined music written in the 21st century would be like not all this hip hop shit. ❤️
Well said, man!
Hear this voice, now and forever.
schmittelt absolutely
I have always been convinced that when someone reaches heaven, the first part of this song is played to welcome that person! it's so beautiful!!!!
Great vision....YES....
Ok, so if this was a properly named Yes song, it would be:
I'm Running:
a. "Jacaranda"
b. "A Simple Peace"
c. "This Voice"
bluestate69 I honestly don't think the name is that off-base. Not that I would argue against certain other choices. Jacaranda has always intrigued, but still not fully reflective of the story behind the song. The BEST YES song since AWAKEN!!
Up to that point maybe. I also really like Endless Dream and Homeworld as far as more recent epics go.
On the Silent Wings of Freedom?
Mind Drive
"One the Silent Wing of Freedom" is another masterpiece!
Big Generator is a great record!!!.
When I was a kid, 3:42 used to blow me away
Guess that was production....but TK was heard.
Yes..... Still some of the most modern rock/art rock music you can find, after all these years.
Still listening in 2023. If anyone plays the Choices games on your phone....the Endless Summer story.....many songs from this album but especially this one could've been j the soundtrack if they ever did a movie on that story. The story line is that good, they really could have made a movie.
Interesting! Thanks for sharing!
...thanks for this enjoyable video!
Saw them perform this during the 'Big Generator' Tour in Omaha, NE . . . . 🙂
this is awesom
hot tune
This one, Finalize, Shoot High Aim Low and Rhythm Of Love are the backbone of Big Generator
Great album ❤❤❤
kick ass song !
At the time I remember liking this album a lot and thinking what is wrong with people when Pink Floyd's latest sold 3 million but this one struggled to sell one million.
Fucking Awesome
as always you do great work, vzqk. hardly a reciprocal link yet one leads into the other. Rush Double Agent Live
Jon's vocals are spot on here.
This is so genious song.
I never really listened too much....fast forward .
..I'm a YES FAN...13 times live....but it was good..
..I thought Shoot High, and Final eyes , the high point...
But listening again....a jazz fusion/Prog Spanish folk combination.
Nearly everything YES has created is great.
i'm crying
The Squire!
🌟
Just amazing David...great to have this (and you!) back!
Yes!!!!
Fun fact, that bass riff goes all the way back to a demo session in 1980 with Squire, White, and Steve Howe before the Drama album was made. ruclips.net/video/KReH6IQKypw/видео.html
Thanks for sharing! Always good to hear the origins of masterpieces like this.
😮!
Well done. Great album considering all the politics. Love it!
いぇっすの新たなモノを切り開いたすばらしい曲だ!

so way gone.......
"waste another day"
is THIS the perfect song?
I've heard this(or parts of it anyway)compared to West Side Story but not sure I hear that. Lol.
Well, a little bit I guess.
The description for this album sounds pathetic and yet many of the songs here are as potent and psychedelic as anything Yes ever made, especially "I'm Running."
PEE WEE HERMAN FOR A SPLIT SECOND....LOLOL
My wife told me that, too!!
What's he saying jackoh lanter asimpile pace just can't be found I can't find the words to this song
It is actually Jacaranda. It is a tree. As the story goes it was a favorite word of Mr. Rabin; Hence it found its way into the lyrics.
I always wonder why Big Generator has such a quiet mix compared to the rest of the catalog? Its such a great record but I don't like the mix. Sounds so quiet and small but the songs are massive.

Vocals a 6:20 blown away!
Prefer this album over 90125. Favorite tune on BG
What da heck is a Jacaranda ?!!
It’s a plant: a beautiful purple plant. I googled it. Purple happens to be my favorite color: I am biased.
Scott Harbison Probably too complex for the general public... yep ! but so '' Flavourful '' for the ones who need more or want to practice Their listening
Frank enstein n
Repeat
Yeah but so what? Just because something is complex doesn't automatically make it good. There are other good songs on this album after all.
Mike Reiss but it is great
nice, but why upload from a potato?
Yes will never be the same, with OUT Chris second best bass player ever, saw them early 80s in the round blew me and 20.000 away...
I will always remember Chris Squire's solo " The Fish", from the album "Fragile." Such stories sung through music are the tales of the future, and the past.
" The Fish"- rules!
I remember the first time I heard this.I thought Jon was singing ,"Jack be limber.."
typical example of a song with wolrd champion verse but horrible and annoying chorus, which doesnt fit to the rest of the song.
ALLAH HUAKBAR INFIDELS
