Great job put you should’ve faced the cement board with the labor side facing out. The rough side holds the thinset better

You’re 100% right. I actually talk about this in my fireplace video on which side to use. Even though I know it, I definitely wasn’t paying attention when I put those up 🤦🏼‍♂️. Guess that’s the benefit of documenting. I have wondered by the time you put on a waterproofing membrane how much the texture impacts it. Thank you for the comment. It will definitely make me pay attention next time!

Nice job on the tile. I usually end up running back and forth frantically cutting tile as the thinset hardens so I'll have to remember that numbering system trick.
