This video makes me regret not making a video on my Prius when it had its catalytic converter stolen, I honestly had the most fun that week because all I would do is 100% full throttle, on the freeway and such just so that I can get the pop pop pop pop pop bang when the engine cuts off due to the electric powertrain kicking in when you let off the throttle. What's funny is the difference between power mode and when it's an Eco status. When you're in power mode it sounds absolutely amazing and high revs, but when you go into eco mode whether you're playing with the throttle or just an eco mode in general, it sounds almost as good as a V8 because of how low the RPMs are on the gasoline engine. instead of paying a shop a bunch of labor for a temporary fix just get the sections of pipe from auto zone and clamp it together if you are worried about a noise ticket or being rude to neighbors. it will take less than an hour and cost 30 bucks
Just leave it straight piped. Less weight, better gas flow, better fuel economy. Cut out the stock muffler too, replace it with a replica HKS HiPower from Aliexpress, (edit) or any no-name or less known small brand straight-through muffler because they all do the same. (Literally just a mesh, fibers on top, encased in a steel cylinder. Length controls the muffling capacity. As simple as they come.) It muffles enough and contributes even further to the "less weight" and "better gas flow" things i mentioned above. While at it, throw in a legit/real HKS, AEM, A'pexi or K&N filter too and do a remap to tie it all together. The little more extra power wouldn't hurt. Why not also get the JP Style bodykit too? It's hella cheap. And some OZ Alleggerita HLT would look great on the Prius. Not to mention the increased fuel economy, because it cuts the weight per wheel to less than half. Like, it's the best excuse to tune the Prius. It would not only look and sound better, but be faster and consume less fuel than before too. Simple builds are pretty nice.
Also why are u encouraging people to put on a fake HKS part from AliExpress China? Isn't that what poser do? Using fake parts and showing off with fakes in order to feel better? But so sorry no respect for fakes
@@TC926 It's more fun? Yes. It's lighter and easier to control? Yes. Consumes surprisingly even less fuel, as absurd as it may sound? Yes. Sounds better? Yes. So why does it matter if it gets gapped by a Civic? It's about the experience, not some meaningless highway racing. That's my point of view.
@@myrmeko ofc u can have fun with ur vehicle. But why putting knockoffs all over it? @@TC926 Ok, ignore that i said "fake HKS". Just replace it with a generic no-name or small unkown brand muffler. It's just fibers surrounding a perforated steel mesh, encased in a steel cylinder. You can buy any straight-through, cylinder type muffler from any company. Only the length is different, so the level of muffling is different. The rest is the same, no matter if you buy a HKS, Borla, fake HKS, small unkown brand or no brand at all. It's as simple as it can possibly get. And for 30$, a muffler that both sounds and looks good, i think it's more than worth it.

All I said is that the Prius uses the engine a lot more than you'd think it would considering how heavily the electric motors are used in marketing.
Some people pay extra for that sound
I'm surprised that the thieves went for a Prius so hard to fit under it, I thought they where just hitting P/U's and SUV's.
They will do anything as long as the jack fits.
@@MiGujack3
Didn't think at first they carried a jack around with them but yeh I get it now.
Prius have BIG KITTY
They go for hybrids because they run the engine less often so the cats are more likely to be in better condition plus I think they use bigger cats to get the emissions way down
@@sbrader97 100%
i love how its dead quiet until you throttle up 😂
That's rough, catalytic converter thieves are the worst. I had an exhaust pipe knocked off my car a couple years ago so I had this same problem, but being that it is a muscle car with a v8 engine, I kinda liked the sound 😂. My car is too low to get under to try and steal the catalytic converter, and if they do manage to get underneath it, they'll be met with disappointment when they realize that it doesn't have one.
They use jacks. The Prius is also too low to just get under without lifting it up
Now it’s a ricer lol🎉
Haha yeah it was pretty funny driving around, seeing all the pedestrians do a double take.
@@KiwiMaker maybe a youtuber is going to do this to a new prius, or exhusat mod, ideally liek a clean sounding k swap lotus elise. maybe the programming can be changed to lessen electric steering power assist, those tires are thin, minimizing braking for battery, brakes, fuel oil , tires longveity could be good. in japan , prevoosu generation prius trd is handling package with swap bar, chassis stiffening, miltu link rear suspension, could get rid of window moving stuff, decoration, some NVH, seats replacement etc. then people use earbud sort of stuff and gel office chair cushion sor tof thing if they want.
then paint letters on like that trueno ae 86 from the anime on top of the peral white from factory
It’s funny how it just goes dead quiet like it’s stalled 😂 I bet you got some weird looks aye
Wow and this is becoming more common these days. It sucks when it happens but hopefully you got it handled. I’m sure your check engine light came on too.
cool AE86 at the end lol
i was about to say the same
Oh this makes so much sense. There’s a Prius that I would always see drive around and thought it was strange that the Prius was so loud
3:29
What was that? Looks like an 86.
was indeed an 86
@@5x100 Never seen a green one.
Looks far better than I was expecting.
Had a bad hanger welds on (speed bump 😬) my mid/rear exhaust on my '97 civic with custom tube light weight headers. The flex pipe saved me from. Losing the whole back exhaust and it didn't constantly drag the groundthe 12 miles home...but that 3 1/2" exhaust with the high flow cat and straight pipe out the back mat little civic sound like a Nascar. Now way I could daily it, but it's insane what a few changes can do to the sound. Praise the Lowered 🙏 that flex pipe and that single hanger held on.
Was hoping you would just pedal to the metal for a bit to hear it at full capacity 😂
I would go deaf!!
@@KiwiMaker 🤣🤣🤣
Hearing one of these role into the dealership shop gives an all new meaning to "loud"
It sounds like a slow-moving EVO lmao
I know it wasn’t much fun for you considering the circumstances but just last month the exhaust fell off my truck late one night. (1996 Transit 2.5 DI, if you are familiar you will know they are a very noisy drive.) As you can imagine it sounded like one of those huge American semi trucks coming down the road, must have woken up all the people in the houses I roared past.
at least you got some type of enjoyment from this 😂
It's so cool to hear it go from no noise to pumped v8 noises in less than a second
2:23 it amazes me how much people on bikes think you’re challenging them just because you’re loud.
No
The biker just doesn’t want to be rear ended by a distracted driver
I’ve seen this happen way too many times
My holden rodeo ute had an exhaust leak and it sounded just like that. I thought it was tough. When I got it fixed it was so quiet I almost stalled it out of the shop not being able to hear the revs (no tacho).
I died laughing, thank you for this video.
That car is cooler than I thought, I didn't know the engine could start like that lmaooo
I could see someone LS swapping one of these and adding another battery pack (to extend the EV mode).
EV mode: around 75 miles
LS on demand: yeet 😄
That would be quite the sleeper
GM did that LS2 6.0L it has 40 cells.. they put it in the silverado, tahoe ,yukon ,esc
i actually got one of them.... it has a lotta power but if you drive it right you can get 32mpg out of the v8 engine. not too bad
This happened to my mom on her birthday. Her Quiet 2003 Honda Accord was LOUD. But we fixed at the mechanic shop by welding a straight pipe.
at least it makes a lil more power also is that an AE86 at 3:29?
It actually doesn’t sound as bad as I thought a prius would.
How many people have tried to race you since the delete lol?
it actually sounds alright, we need some tunnel runs in this
Lol ive been seeing a pruis that sounds awfully loud, and its white 😳
haha well 92% of em are white cars
@@KiwiMaker 💀
instead of paying a shop a bunch of labor for a temporary fix just get the sections of pipe from auto zone and clamp it together if you are worried about a noise ticket or being rude to neighbors. it will take less than an hour and cost 30 bucks
As simple as they come.)
It muffles enough and contributes even further to the "less weight" and "better gas flow" things i mentioned above.
Doing all that and still getting gapped by tuned Civic?
The only experience that u would probably get from using knockoffs fake parts is that it doesn't fit that well compared to the real. And rough surface and some quality control issues. U can get more experience by 3D printing and make ur own parts
It's funny when you went past packn'save I was like"wait, I know this bridge"
lmfao sounds like a lawn mower
It sounds like Prius with the exhaust cut off at the catalytic converter.
Why does it sound KINDA good?
Might just keep it that way aha
Why does it actually sound kind of good though...?
keep it like that its amazing
The random 86 appearing out of nowhere at 3:29 makes this one of the best videos I've seen all year, lmao.
fr
they left your cat but stole your muffler wtf
I dunno, judging from what ive seen online they got the right bit.
@@KiwiMaker yea nvm i see they've stole your cat I've disliked your video because of the fact that you drive a Prius
@@seanmckay3392 LMAO
@@seanmckay3392 Thank you for the comment, it brings more views.
There should be law that punish these stealers to cut their hands so that they will lessen this kind of crime.
Someone needs to invent a catalytic converter alarm system already
It's crazy hearing a prius sounding like a old muscle car 😂
lol wtf it sounds like a track car. I know it's annoying and upsetting AF to get ur shit stolen but i would consider this a W lol. think of it as a free upgrade! however ur neighbours are probably gonna hate u now. XD
Its acutally fine, just slip it into electric mode down the driveway and then let it rip!
it sounds like a Prius with a deleted cat....
Every old car in Houston sounds like this lol 😂
no one is gonna talk about the gt86 that passed :) 3:28
I SAW IT TOO!
Yeah because people don't and up and jumpy about a p plater 2L slow garbage box 🤣🤣
This is has bought a new perspective on the prius for me, comedy gold haha
Yep. Crackheads in every country the world around.
yeah unfortunately, were just a couple years behind.
First time I've seen something cut off and yet have more balls afterwards.
Still sounds better than most cars
(Sorry for your cats tho)
I was waiting for you to get pulled up and given a pink sticker 😂. Shame these people even if caught will not get punished.
Hope the rest of your festive season is better than the start.
Next time I am in Christchurch I will keep an eye out for the straight piped prius.
We get what we vote for. If we don't get a change of government next year NZ will likely never recover, at least not for the next few generations.
Its not fully the govts fault.. people are responcible for themselves
Just don't stop building toyota v8s
You get a tune on that thing with some pops and bangs that keep it just the way it is 🤣🤣🔥
This happened to me and I seriously thought that there was a motorcycle behind me so I pulled over!!! Hahaha
At least the cut is clean, nothing else is damaged. The sound is an upgrade to the Prius, I must say.
This is NZ right? Wouldn't think you would need a cat to pass inspection. Just get muffler shop to put bit of pipe in
We have the "Problem" here in Germany an few weeks ago. Cost near 4.000,00 €. We have order now, a Protector Schield fore the calalytic converter, it cost less then 150 € and make the stealing more dificult. My Advice, buy a Protector Shield too.
The only upside from getting ur cat stolen
People who don't understand why other people make their cars louder should try this.
Even though this guy got his catalytic converter stolen, he still seems to have a good time driving this car.
Environmentalist or not, loud cars are fun to drive.
But it may get a bit annoying in the long run to have your daily driver that loud.
I mean, I daily drive my truck with no cat and a maxflow 40 series. Yeah, when the pipe that was where the cats once were rusted a hole through, it was annoying again, but mainly because I knew it sounded like a shitbox. But that curated rumble? It sounds nice, it's fun, and it fades into the background on most days.
The way it's a hybrid and it shuts off is sooooo funny, WHY IS IT SO FUNNY IT JUST GETS LOUD AGAIN OUT OF NOWHERE ROFL
I have an uncle with a Prius that got its catalytic converters stolen. It sounds so loud, but sounds very good too.
A day ago i heard a loud ass suv and thought “why would they mod their muffler on an suv” then I remembered the whole cat thefts deal and had a different perspective on why that suv was so loud.
Even a expensive exhaust don't sound this good,
Finally a decent Prius, consider it a blessing in disguise
Work at Toyota service center. The amount of Prius’s we see come in with stolen cats every month is ridiculous. We even just had a Tundra with its cats stolen ( left out a few weeks ago. $8k service bill ), that was on another level of LOUD. 5.7L V8 with basically open headers 💀
jokes aside this is a very good way of showing how the prius hybrid system works ngl
sounds better then the honda fart cannons roaring through town
