- What is hot press vs cold press paper? I explain the qualities of both types of paper in relation to making art prints. I share my experience as a full-time artist making and selling prints of my paintings.
I make fine art prints using my Epson Surecolor P900 printer. The papers I discuss in the video are Epson ultra premium presentation paper matte and Epson cold press bright paper for making art prints. I also show some Arches watercolor paper.

I often buy watercolor paper in bulk, but I was considering homemade paper for prints at one point.
One thing Im not sure about is, sense I use pastels ( I make my own ) whether it prints can be done on pastel paper.
Of course if I print them on tee shirts, thats moot I guess.
If you use epson surecolor printers, you can pretty much print with any type of paper. But the ink might not be as vibrant. If you don’t use paper specifically made for your printer. If you look on my channel, I have some other videos in my art prints playlist aboutprinters specifically. Watching those will help I think.
Can you paint with watercolor over the print ?
I think so, but I'm going to test out the paper today and let you know :)
