Woohoo! I feel so much better once my plan is done, but it was a rough first couple of weeks to the year getting it done. How about you? Are you still trying to figure out your plan? Let me know in the comments!
I'm still working on my plan. My classes at university will begin in February, and I still need to choose the classes that I'll take, so it's pretty hard to know how much free time I'll have. Love your videos!! Ps.: english it's not my first language, please forgive any mistakes
Yup, I'm still trying to work out my goals for the year... Every day I put it off so I think I need to face my fears and just get something on the page, I can always change things later. I deal with anxiety and it is not fun at all. Sending you lots of love and hugs 💛🤗
I have started a KanBan board this quarter, following your lead. I have already been more productive. I also have never broken my year up into quarters and now I have and it has helped with planning my goals so much. Thank you for sharing.
Happy New Year and Happy early Birthday Sarra. My partner is an Author and hates planning but I've slowly gotten them into believing in the value of goals. Last year was a breakout year with 6 self publish books and with it many financial goals exceeded. Probably the biggest was $5,000 in royalties first thirty days of a book being published. We met it on the last two books so that was exciting. We kept the yearly publishing goal at 6 and have 12 monthly goals in January. Coming from the business sales management world planning your work and working your plan is natural to me. *** Where you have helped us most is 1) decide to self-publish and 2) focus on writing one series at a time. Although we still have two unfinished series our decision to finish current series before picking each of the others and finishing them one at a time gives us an overall plan for the next 2.5 years. Thanks so much for those and the many other gems of experience and knowledge. You're awesome!
All the good thoughts are going out to you and your postpartum challenges. The struggle is real and it's so awesome that your making your health a big priority this quarter! Good luck girl!
Love this Sarra!! And yep, boundaries are really important. You already give SO much, you have to take care of you and family first in order to be able to do the other stuff that you love - like your writing!
I have been researching the desks that raise up and lower. It'll be fun to see how you like it. Self health is so very important for overall well being so it's a good thing to set those boundaries. Thanks for uploading the videos that you do.
As a author mom with residual postpartum anxiety, I really appreciate you sharing your journey. Thank you for being open. All the best and love to you as you figure out what your solution.
Creating and keeping alive a whole new human being is massively productive!! You needn't feel disappointed in the SLIGHTEST that you didn't publish this past year, Sarra. And I'm sure your fans aren't, either. Breathe deeply and be kind to yourself, you are exactly where you need to be. 💜
I love the way you painted your konbon board! Thank you so much for all you do! I have done your courses and wouldn’t be where I am without them. I am very late on planning my quarter because my previous plan for this quarter didn’t feel right... so I am trying to figure out which goals feel right rather than jumping into projects that will increase my anxiety. I am excited to see how you did your goals in a way that is focused on reducing anxiety 💕
I'm so grateful for this video and the timing of it! I'm also late getting my Q1 projects and tasks planned out, and my kanban board set up. I seem to have moved into avoidance mode with all of it over the past week, which feels pretty overwhelming, but this video has inspired me to get back in the game! The start of this new year was full of holiday exhaustion, illness and my own anxiety about my future kicking in like a wild winter storm. It helps to know others are overcoming their own ways of feeling stuck out there! Thank you for always being so up front and boldly honest about struggles, as well as successes. And for this wonderful planning system that really does help me move forward, especially when I make it a daily practice.
This was a really inspirational video... Especially since you are working on your emotional health and prioritizing it in your goals... Wishing you the best on your goals and I hope that you feel better by the end of this quarter...
Love the new desk and chair! I've got a mini kanban board that I have only one weeks tasks at a time - I love watching yours change over the quarter...and I love moving my tiny tasks down to the Done section each week. I love that you encourage us to find our own way. I hope your anxiety gets down to that 3 - its not an easy thing to wrestle with. Take care of you. :)
Thank you thank you thank you for the anxiety & productivity score idea - that is such a simple thing to measure and check in with yourself. I'm going to start the same system tomorrow! Much love x
Hey Sarra, I’m still a newbie to your channel but I can tell you need a day of you time! I struggle with anxiety as well so I “get it”. I can relate to the worry about income and getting things done on time/schedule but nothing is more important than taking some time for self care. It could even be 4-5 minutes to wash your face or use a face scrub (I recommend St. Ives Apricot Scrub- it’s light and fresh and it exfoliates) or take 1 minute to put lotion on your hands and blend in. It truly helps even if you do the smallest of things. I’m 27 and had a stroke at 26 & I’ve learned that stress can be very unhealthy for our mind and body. I support you & Heart Breathings and I loved this video! I need to focus more on my 90-day goals now. Thank you for sharing your how-to! 🙏💜
I love your idea of recording anxiety each day. I had postpartum anxiety/depression issues with my first. He never slept which we later discovered was due to a combo of dairy sensitivity and reflux. (Not diagnosed until six months.) Now ten years later, I'm going through bouts of anxiety apparently related to perimenopause which feel very much like the postpartum issues. I've got a list of self-care items that I'm working to be consistent on. The idea of recording the level of anxiety each day sounds like a great idea. Plus, I can look back next quarter and see how much it truly affected my schedule and be more accurate in planning.
Also behind already, but watching this gives me confidence that I will get there this quarter. I am totally behind your goal to be better at switching off. I tend to work from morning until bed which means very little quality with the hubby. 2020 will be better!
I am so glad you're taking a self-care goal this quarter!!!! It makes SUCH a difference!!! And others get to see how a self-care goal works with your system! It was so interesting to see your sticky notes on your project page (before it goes up on the board). Is that the way you usually do it? I'm finishing up my goal board today (on the 12th), so I'm right there with you.
I have a seriously small office... like half bath size. But I am determined to find space for a kanban board! I am loving the Goal planner so far and would to bring in the board into my system. Thanks for sharing
@@HeartBreathings I will check those out. I have a small poster frame and it will fit under the window in my office. Think I am going to try that out first. I am awaiting your next HB90 course since I think I would do better with a guided course with more detail. Oh by the way I just started reading your shadow demons series. And you have another fan right here!
I absolutely love your content. I'm signed up for your emails under two different email addresses so that I get a notification no matter what that I got it. Thank you so much for all of the free content that you make and produce for us. I'm so looking forward to the next video.
Okay, first, just let me say that I *love* your office. It's so cute XD Also, I'm trying out my first kanban board ever, and I'm really hoping that it helps to keep me organized and on track. Good luck with everything, hun. :D

I have an Uplift desk, and I love it! My only (very minor) issue is that the screws that hold the keyboard tray down loosen with use, so I have to tighten them down regularly. As for goals, I fleshed them all out before the end of last year, but I'm struggling with a couple of them - mostly because I have a tendency to underestimate the amount of time it takes me to do stuff. I'm now looking at ways to reset my goals more realistically. Your Kanban board looks great!
You say in your video that you have anxiety over losing your fan base. Well, I'm here to say, that I bought your book "Sacrifice Me," last night so you have another fan. :) Keep up the fabulous work, you're doing great. And btw, I'm totally nerding out over your desk!

If no, he should, so he can alleviate your load and hiring an assistant is maybe more focused. Personally, I would love to help you but can't right now. Which gives me an idea for (more work/ new avenue) for you and hubby. How about a class on what a writers assistant needs as far as tech savvyness, other apps to master, routine, etc. Just an idea for more income....not anxiety. K....love ya! Don't stress!
No, he doesn't have a kanban, but he has a bullet journal. We are really trying to work together to make things easier this year, and I'm so grateful for him! Thanks for the class idea, too!
Wishing you a great year! Maybe you should try the service „freedom“ which gives you the choice to block websites and/or email for a set time. I use it all the time while „working“ on my life 🙂
I'm just starting with Kanban do you have a video thats for beginners? I just found your site and would love to start with the first one to get a better understanding of how to start. Thanks so much for these videos - great idea
I don't have an easy link since I'm on my phone, but if you search "heart Breathings kanban" you should hopefully find my first video on it where I explain it in more detail of how to use it!
Sarra, this is great! Do you reward yourself in any way for what you do accomplish weekly, monthly, quarterly? I'm afraid I would need the promise of a really juicy reward each quarter to keep me on track.
I don't always have rewards, but it does work really well when I do! I set rewards in the summer for each module I completed in my self pub course, because it was such a huge project. What we've decided for this year is that we are going to do a family vacation every quarter this year! Nothing huge, but even just a couple of nights in Savannah with my phone turned off would be amazing! Still trying to decide where to go in March...
My plans have been dealt a heavy blow and I’m working to fix the situation. I need to rethink and replan it all. I feel like this quarter is already a bust for me due to things outside my control.
Question I'm planning to take the HB90 Q1,2, and 3 in 2021. I just signed up for the newsletter, will the course dates and the prices be in the email listing? I did check the website, but didn't see any information on it, or may have missed it. Thanks for any help. Stay amazing, Sarra. ~*Shana signing out - hugs
Getting your anxiety down is great. It'll also get easier as your hormones start to restabilize after giving birth. They don't tell you or focus on how screwed up women's bodies get after pregnancy. I'm sending this video to my mom. She's not a writer, but she's starting her own business, and she likes to plan and I think she'll really like your style of planning and help her along.
Hello, Sarra & fellow writers. Late to the party but feel empowered by videos here. @Sarra: Oh, shoot. I can't locate your great "re-making" of old happy planners into plotting pages for new projects. Cd you post that link, please? 🤗
I thought having too many sticky notes would overwhelm me. Not being able to move my sticky notes quickly enough was even more overwhelming as well as demoralizing. So, I broke down my tasks into smaller chunks and I'm actually OK with having more sticky notes on my board.
omg your daughter look absolutely disgusted with the pink spray paint! that was so adorable. Thats a good idea to pain the back of the glass, though. If I find something like that for cheap I might try that..
I think the little one approved. LOL You got a lot done to have had a child....that's not sleeping a long time. :) maybe answer tech email/questions first. Advice/non emergent questions later.
Are you planning on doing Audio books? It's part of my 90 day goal in Q1. What are your thoughts on doing audio books? What helps me is setting work hours for my anxiety. Hugs.
Watching this video, again, a long time later. It occurred to me that your shine problem could be lessened by using a white umbrella. I'm sure you've seen these used in the fashion industry. Set up white umbrellas on tripods so they can be adjusted and aimed as needed. Shine the light on the umbrella so it reflects on the subject you are filming. This provides a diffuse light instead of an intense focused, round light. While this would work with your note board, it also might work to make your videos nicer.
I know that what I'll say its pretty obvious, but practising some kind of exercise can really help your mental health (not only the physical health), so I suggest that you find some pleasant exercise to practice at leats 3 times a week.
I appreciate how open and vulnerable you are to try and help your viewers. This may sound cheesy, but becoming a Christian has removed almost all of my anxiety and depression in life. Phil 4:6-7 is a great verse to pray though if you are a Christian.

I'm planning to take the HB90 Q1,2, and 3 in 2021.
I didn’t realize we were neighbors! I’m in Moncks Corner 😉
omg your daughter look absolutely disgusted with the pink spray paint! that was so adorable. Thats a good idea to pain the back of the glass, though. If I find something like that for cheap I might try that..
😂
Hi! thanks for the video, do you recommend an app or software to do this? thanks
I saw that mistake and was glad to see it. I just leave it as a reminder we're not perfect.
I think the little one approved. LOL You got a lot done to have had a child....that's not sleeping a long time. :) maybe answer tech email/questions first. Advice/non emergent questions later.
Sorry if I missed this but is the middle row for tasks that are in process?
Yes! 😊
Yes! Sorry I didn't explain it more in this video, but if you look at my kanban playlist, you can hopefully find a better explanation!
Are you planning on doing Audio books? It's part of my 90 day goal in Q1. What are your thoughts on doing audio books? What helps me is setting work hours for my anxiety. Hugs.
Muji sells white(in 4pk)post-it notes 2x1cm on amazon for $6.40
Watching this video, again, a long time later.
When it's time to redo it try chalkboard paint
I know that what I'll say its pretty obvious, but practising some kind of exercise can really help your mental health (not only the physical health), so I suggest that you find some pleasant exercise to practice at leats 3 times a week.
Thank you! We are doing yoga together and walking every night for about half an hour.
I appreciate how open and vulnerable you are to try and help your viewers.
This may sound cheesy, but becoming a Christian has removed almost all of my anxiety and depression in life. Phil 4:6-7 is a great verse to pray though if you are a Christian.
what is the "manifestation challenge?"
You’re entitled to take a year off writing to have a baby ❤️
Thank you! Deep breaths.
Not to be mean but your sweet baby doesn't care AT ALL about your spray paint!!! This isn't a nap or eating!!!
