Thanks for this video. I have always been curious about the day to day work of medical writers.
Thanks for watching!
Thank you for this video! I just learned a work field thanks again :))
My pleasure. Are you exploring careers?
I love this ❤ thank you for sharing; can you make more videos about how to write a CV for a medical writer job? What books to read and how to get better?
Sure. I can make that video.
I just got my first graduate job as an associate medical writer! Very excited 😁
How exciting! Congrats on your new role!!
Where are you from?
Very nice video!😃
Glad you enjoyed it.
🤗
Great information, work on camera lighting in the beginning tho.
Thanks. That day the lighting was not cooperating as I started the video. Happens sometimes. Thanks for watching.
is it mainly a quiet environment as shown in the video that's what I typically prefer haha
Hello, thank you for the video. Could you kindly describe the progression after working as a medical writer please?
Hello and thanks for watching. Honestly, you could go in several directions. Example, you could go into managerial roles managing other writers. Some people may also move on into other roles in medical affairs-e.g medical science liaison roles. Some may also go into market development within biotech and pharmaceutical. So really, you can take it in several directions if you want to.
@@TheBoldPhD Thank you so much for your response :) it is very informative 👍
@@TheBoldPhD Thank you very much for your answer :) This does seem like an interesting career.
Hi, I'm a new subscriber! Do you need to have a PHD to become a medical writer? Thanks
Great question! The short answer is no, you don’t.
Hi I have done my BTech biotechnology degree and I’m planning to do masters in biotechnology management. So after my masters can i apply to become a medical writer or i should pursue masters in a different course? Will my masters degree in biotechnology management be beneficial for a career in medical writing
Your actual degree does not matter as long as you prove you can write.
I'm in the medical field and about to get my medical admin certification. What certification is needed to become a medical writer?
Generally, you don't need any certifications. I have none. I used my PhD and nursing degrees to provide proof I have knowledge of the field and could write the kind of content they needed.
I just finished high school, seems like an interesting career. Can someone with a bachelor in science of health management and masters in public health qualify for being medical editor job or need to enroll in phd program?
It's possible to get a medical editor job with those qualifications.
@@TheBoldPhD Thanks for replying! 🤗
Hello! I have just discovered your video. I have PhD in organic chemistry with a solid background in biology. After a long maternity leave and the pandemic I have recently decided to switch from bench science research to medical writing. Would you recommend any professional courses, or should I just look for a job right away?
Hello Jenny - while you may not need professional courses, having base knowledge and a writing portfolio can be helpful in helping you land a role. Here is a playlist I created to prepare aspiring medical writers: ruclips.net/p/PLZC-otPkWVepWpmQIfTNC1lqS-Eb2TTSZ
Thanks for this video! Can you recommend some first steps for someone wanting to get into this career? I have a masters in kinesiology with research experience. Thanks so much!
Hello Becky. I recorded another video on how I got started to provide people with some tips in my experience: ruclips.net/video/9tG5hSluQAQ/видео.html
Also, people do get onto this path in different ways. This is just mine.
What licenses do you need to start as a underwriter
I am not an underwriter. I am a medical writer. Very different things. Underwriters work in the financial industry. Medical writers usually are employed in healthcare and the pharmaceutical industries. This video is about being a medical writer.
Maam,I have done bsc in biotechnology and currently doing msc in Microbiology am i eligible for this job ?
You could be. You would also have to show that you can write the kinds of documents that kind of company needs.
Is their any online medical writing courses which I can do, please help me
I am an undergrad communications major that specialized in Media/Public communication but I am thinking of pursuing Tech Writing (specifically medical writing) for my masters degree, what do you think my outlook is? Is it possible or should I do something else?
You will never know until you try so I say, go for it!
How to search articles could you teach us
I tend to use Pubmed and Google Scholar a lot for researching helpful articles.
What helped you get this job, professionally wise?
A number of things: my background in healthcare and science, I was a freelance health writer for about 3 years prior to full time work, and just sheer determination.
Do you need a certification in medical writing?
You can certainly get one. UCSD and the University of Chicago offer certificates. It can be a good learning experience. Personally, though, I haven't gotten a certification and have been working in the field for five years.
Hey,
As a doctor of physical therapy I have treated patients for 20 years. Also I have worked as a sales rep for a big pharma company detailing PIs, and educating doctors, nurses, and patients. With my experience and willingness to learn, I would be very interested in being a regulatory writer. Also, I had a small business as a PT and developed brochures and had written articles related to my field. What is my outlook as a medical/regulatory writer, and what should I emphasize on my resume/CV? Thank you
You seem to have a good background. Don’t hesitate on applying.
Is it possible to be a medical writer and also have another day job that involves working in the lab?
Being a medical writer REALLY is a full time job not a side business. Yes you could take in some freelance projects and work in a lab if you need to but I work full time as a medical writer and by the end of the day I have no energy to do much else😂.
can medical writer work in home
Is it a hectic job
Depends on what you define as hectic. Some seasons it gets busy. Some seasons not so much. So it defends.
May I ask if medical writers have a good salary?
Yes.

What questions do you have about being a science/medical writer?
Such an upbeat video. Yes, the amount of research you do for content writing can be impressive, but it's worth it. I also always loved the collaboration with teams. So many smart people @ CG Life.
