York Minster - RWNYC 2023

Well, I can now say, I have rung at York Minster...
This is probably my favourite RWNYC alongside Worcester, not only because of the towers we rang at, but also, we came joint 4th in the Call Changes competition!!!!!
Managed to ring the 11th on that tower of a box! Heaviest bell I have rung at 40cwt - Scary to say the least, I went from ringing the 3rd to Plain Hunt on 11, to the 9th which is about normal weight for me, and then jumped on the 11th thinking it wouldn't be too bad!! Oops!!
Also met up with Simon Edwards who showed the band the way to the Result Hall - Thanks for showing us the way Simon, and I envy being able to call York Minster your home tower!
Not to mention the organ - Wow!! That was a musical experience. Feeling those 32' rumble away through the building was unreal. You could feel the wind being produced by them when you stood next to them or where I was filming it!

amazing i cant wait until i finally get a ring here i have never rung at any tower in Yorkshire apart from when i got a ring on the swing chiming bell at Leeds Cathedral

Shame that the standard of ringing over the last few years has gone right down. Ringing used to be perfect - and no one was allowed to ring until they could prove they could strike and handle the bells, often by invitation only.

This was a youth ringing event... It gives the younger generation of bell ringers a chance to ring at places they wouldn't normally because they are often shut off until a higher level of ringing. Ringing on 10 or 12 can be difficult for some ringers, especially if they are not very experienced. I think everyone who rang at the minster that day did extremely well!
