  • This was simply a quick initial run, we will be back with detailed analysis and tests soon!
    There is still HEAPS of work to be done on this boat, we are really just scratching the surface, but we just wanted to know how it goes and handles before progressing any further to ensure we like it.

    I'm liking following your journey, plate to fiberglass, and keep up the honest comments. I laughed at the boat launching itself as this reminds me of myself on some days even after so many years launching boats, we all f**k up now and then so credit to you for not editing this out and to be honest, that's why I follow your channel, honest personal reviews and experiences. I'm in the exact same boat as you (no pun intended) but your 9 months ahead of me. I've had all ali boats, 5 of them biggest 7.3m, since sold and after watching your journey, the wife and I are now going down the fiberglass path. Their construction has come a long way since the days of timber etc. so were looking getting at a secondhand Haines or something equivalent in the 5.8-6.0m.

      Hey man, yeah I love plate and glass boats but you definitely have to understand their limitations. My old dog at the moment, rides ridiculously well tbh but alot of work and maint. Can't go wrong with a good haines. Good luck! Let me know how U go

    Wow a blast from the past, had one of these great boats back in 1993, was like new ( for it's age ) and yep awesome and comfortable travelling in the chop, however we found it moved around to the point of annoying at anchor. Still loved it though and a day out in it was always good fun. These days we own a 5.8 Surtees and could not be happier as an allrounder it is ,perfect IMO.

      Yep we mostly will be doing offshore, trolling etc in this boat. After a few seasons and hopefully some good fish Il probably go smaller and easier again

    You can't beat the smooth ride of a big heavy glass hull and big torquey stern drive engine, like a water riding Rolls Royce! .... the fuel consumption will be the interesting and hopefully not too shocking part though. She's going to sip more guzzaline than the two hundred Suzuki mate. Very nice boat though Mark and she will be even better once you have modded it to how you want it. Well done and thank you for all your insights and great video discussions.

    • @BaitBallin
      @BaitBallin  2 года назад

      No worries! Yes totally agree, more than happen to pay for the additional fuel etc to have such a better on water experience. It's slowly coming together, it will probably take me. Year to genuinely totally sort it out. But will be quite usable pretty soon.

      Agree with size! Yeh Il do a video on it soon, no where near as bad as you think on fuel. In that video was mostly sitting on 1.2 or 1.3 KM/L

    Great series mate. Will be interested in your take on a modern boat vs the Caribbean for ease of operation/maintenance etc going forward. I'm lucky enough to get to go out on a Noosa Cat with 2x325 Suzuki V8 outboards on a regular basis. I'd say they're quieter than this boat with a single V8 inboard (though I recognise that I'm comparing live vs youtube).

    • @BaitBallin
      @BaitBallin  2 года назад

      Hey, yeah it's not as noisy at cruising speed as the video made it sound. Sort of depends what rpm. Yeah let's see how hard to maintain etc and will get first service bill soon enough to compare cost
