    My all time favorite powertrain on an ATV. Would've loved to seen that Hondamatic make it onto the newest generation Rubicon.

    @beastgrizz There is no foot-shift Rubicon. But if you are referring to switching the Rubi into ESP mode, it does show the gear selection on the gaugepod.

    Unless you installed an aftermarket kit on your Rubicon, the front differential is a rather weak limited slip. You can make it steer easier if you check the front toe and set it to zero out.

    My 2005 Rubicon's front diff is always locked just like this, but i'd rather have tough steering than electronics and "visco-lok" and the like. But this is my work quad, I have a 700 grizzly for the trail

    @slapoutz Neither one allows any 'sideways travel'. A swing axle only pivots from the front mounts whether it has one shock or twelve! There really isn't that much difference between a single shock and dual shocks because the single is a heavier-duty unit.

    @slapoutz I knew what you meant. The answer is the same - on a swingaxle machine both rear wheels move the same. Actually on an IRS machine there really is very little difference because they run such big anti sway bars.
    The Rubicon are pretty much the same except for the transmission. We greatly prefer the auto feature of the Rubicon as it also lets us use an electrical/manual shift. The Foreman's manual-centrifugal clutch transmission will be much less expensive to fix should things happen.

    ok question about the rubicon vs rancher. what about the dual shock vs. single? which one has more sideways travel? does the single even allow for the back wheels to go up and down variable of each other? wish i still had my 03 rancher. but im probly getting a 2012 rancher.

    @bamboom2020 Sorry, we never measure top speed or time to speed as they can vary too much off road.

    is there really an aftermarket kit that u can install on a rubicon for diff lock instead of the limited slip??

    My 2005 Rubicon's front diff is always locked, so steering can be tough, but i prefer always locked to selectable, my son's rancher has all 4 wheels locked with no 2 wheel drive!

    sooooo it is automatic and shift? cause we are about to get one for Christmas and i would really like to know

  • @ATVTVCOM
    @ATVTVCOM  13 лет назад

    @bamboom2020 It gives you the choice to either use it as an automatic or shift it yourself. Absolutely the best transmission ever!

    @ATVTVCOM  15 лет назад

    @TheHondaAbuser Ah ha! I wondered why so many people were doing the same thing you were? It was getting really old on my end!

    @ATVTVCOM ah my bad i didnt mean sideways i mean artileration. like the left tire going up and the right tire going down.
    also which would be better. a foreman or a rubicon. im talking about which one is going to be easier when i sink it in mud and get it in the engine (gonna happen). would the rubicons transmission make it difficult. im split between the foreman and rubicon.

    Nothing I know of. I think there is a kit to lock the front diff but the only way you can run it unlocked is in 2wd....

    only problems with older rubicons thats i can find, no 424 select, no diff lockers(still) no irs(still) it shifts into a neutral gear if i water wheelie,nuetral between gears that is, and that might just be me but thats hte only problems i ever have

  • @ATVTVCOM
    @ATVTVCOM  14 лет назад

    @Derek130b The ATV is a great machine except for that transmission. Evidentally many folks don't mind it, some it seems even like it (but that's most likely because they don't know anything else), I hate it with a passion. The Rubicon's transmission is as awful as Polaris' AWD system.
