hey Irene great video! I’m looking to day trade US and fees is definitely the main concern. What do you recommend? I was looking in cmc but also interactive brokers because they have a fx fee of only 0.03%? Which is a massive saving I think. But wasn’t sure if this is correct. Can you comment plz. Thanks!
Thanks Mr TechTok! When I was researching for this video, here are the brokerage fees and FX fees of the following brokers (from cheap to expensive based on A$3000 one trade): Brokerage fee FX fee 1. Tiger Brokers U$2 0.37% 2. Pearler A$6.5 AUD 0.5% 3. Webull U$0.25 0.5% 4. Moomoo U$0.99 0.55% 5. CMC 0 0.6% 6. Superhero 0 0.7% 7. IG 0 0.7% 8. Stake U$3 0.7% 9. Selfwealth U$9.5 0.6% 10. eToro 0 1.5% 11. Saxo U$8 0.45~0.75% 12. Interactive Brokers multiple layers of fees, not so clear The fees might have changed since then, but I hope the above helps.
This is super helpful! Follow up question. This might be worth mentioning too is that moomoo stake and tiger although have high fx fee. It’s a one off unless you convert it back to AuD. Which means when you trade you only get charged the broker fee. Where as CMC it charges every time you trade because you are using AUD to buy US stocks. Is this correct ?
@@MrTechTok some brokers allow you to exchange AUD to USD before trading, then store in the US account. CMC Markets exchanges the currency in each trade. But either way, the FX fee is unavoidable.
Good work Irene! Been watching your channel for a while and I can appreciate the work you put in. A bit disappointed with this video just because I thought for a “comparison” video there should be a clear winner or preferred option even if it is selected based on the metrics you listed i.e. fees etc. Instead it seemed more like a promotional video for moomoo when it’s obvious (based on your analysis) that they’re not the winner or best. Guess I just expected a winner to be identified in a comparison video. Otherwise, keep putting out good content and I’m sure with time your channel will definitely grow. All the best
Hi David, thanks for your comments! Sorry this kind of promotional video disappointed you. If you want to see the detailed metrics that I compare, I summarised a two-page pdf, you can download here irenezhu.ck.page/usbroker Thank you for your support!
Hi Joshua, Stake came the 8th but I still use it mainly for ASX shares now. I used to buy US shares on Stake when it was the cheapest, but now CMC Markets is my go-to for global shares mainly because I don't quite like the US dollars getting "stuck" in the Wall Street Account.
Hi Irene, I'm 21 years old and just starting on my investment journey. I've currently made a portfolio with 60% in Vanguard MSCI Index International Shares ETF and 40% in Vanguard Australian Shares Index ETF. I'm looking for high long term growth and from my understanding, it would also be great to invest in either QQQM, VGT or both. However, after this video I'm still not sure what broker to use if I want to make fortnightly, automatic payments to receive the cheapest fees. You also mentioned a NASDAQ ASX equivalent of QQQM so not sure whether it's even worth purchasing QQQM if NDQ exists? Just a lot to try and sort/wrap my head around and feeling a bit stuck. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks
Hi Will, 60/40 VGS & VAS is a pretty good combo to start with. I don't recommend to buy ETFs traded in the US especially you can find the very similar products on ASX, not worth the FX fees, US withholding tax on top of the AUS income tax for dividends etc. QQQM equavalent AUS ETF - NDQ, TECH on ASX is similar to VGT. I compared the different brokers to buy US shares, not so much about US ETFs. Hopefully this helps.

Great video Irene. You mentioned at the beginning that you use Stake. However, it didn't make your top 5 list. Are you still using it and why?

Hi, from the 5 platforms mentioned, do you happen to know if they offer leverage on their trades?
As far as I know, only Pearler doesn't offer margin accounts.
