I can relate so much what you were saying. During the pandemic, I withdrew 10k from my super, sold gold “invested” another 13k in stocks. Guess what? I lost 70% of my investment. Only started recovering all the shares I bought. I wish I knew about s&p 500 that time.

It's relatively easy to find active managers that do outperform, after fees, over decades. Just not in large caps/us.
I know in China you can follow the star fund managers as their profiles and track records are easily accessed. In Australia, I don't even know who manages the fund. Do you know how to see who is the fund manager for a particular fund?
It's possible to look them up. Some Active managers certainly have an edge in some asset classes and geographies.
