I married my wife in 1994 and one of our wedding gifts was an ornament like the beautiful one you just made. It still hangs in our window today. I know yours will be someone’s heirlooms for decades to come. Thanks
Thanks for turning a very nice ornament. It is just beautiful. Where can I find the bird that you put in the cage and what were the dimensions of the piece you turned for the finial, then what were the finial dimensions of the finial. Thanks for demonstrating this good piece
The bird is called a mushroom bird. Can be purchased from Amazon. The dimensions of the cube are approximately 2.25x 2.35x2.25” the finial is about 4 to 5”.
Thank you for a lovely step by step video , i have a block in my chuck thinking what to make next . A small hemostat called a mosquito clamp works great to hold and position little fiddly bits Off to building center for bigger forstner bit . I have a 1 inch , and 1 5/16 and 1 1/2 speed bore bits
sir, may I offer the recommendation that you position your camera to either a more overhead position or directly facing you from the other side of the lathe. it was frequently difficult to see what you were doing due to your hands, arms, and/or shoulders obstructing the camera. I offer this because I really wanted to see your beautiful work as you were doing it.
The holes are moving so fast that the gouge skips over the surface and doesn’t enter the inside space. use a light touch and let the tool do the work.😅
@@waltwager When will your works of art be available and how can I obtain them? That sounded pretty anxious, sorry, but I would love to have some of your delicious ornaments and those Xmas trees! Looking forward to doing business with you!! Happy Holidays to you and your loved ones!
Very observant - you may have noticed I was getting a jam chuck to insert in the scroll chuck so I wasn’t about to turn the lathe back on until I had removed the key from the chuck.
I finally saw this after it being here for two years. Thank you so much for sharing and all of the great information.
very nice thanks.

Excellent. Thank you for showing this
Great video Walt! Thank you.
A freakin open end wrench... that's awesome! I'm gonna make me several sizes of those as I have lots of extra wrenches. Great tool for the lathe.

Thank you, thank you, thank you. I always wondered what to do with those little birds!
Hi Walt, great video, I have done a similar project with a tree in the hole but the bird makes a nice change. All the best for the festival season.
Best of everything in the holidays.
That is a great idea. Thanks for the video
Fantastic job 👏 👍 👌

Where did the bird come from. I keep watching. Were they purchased?
beautiful well done
Wondering where you get the bird that goes in the cage??? Pep
9:39. I am confusing. How is the gouge not going inside the workpieces holds and breaking the 4 corners?
The holes are moving so fast that the gouge skips over the surface and doesn’t enter the inside space. use a light touch and let the tool do the work.😅
What did he call the 1 3/8” Forstner type bit ?
very nice i like this alot
Where did you get the bird from? I really like it
Very, very NICE!!
Are they available for purchase?
Thanks, I sold all I made this year. I’ll start making them again next year.

We wood monkeys do like to injure ourselves. How did you do that one. It’s in an odd place
It had nothing to do with woodturning. I did it mowing the yard when I ran into a low lying tree limb.
Very nice thanks for the training.
Which wood did you use?🤔🤔🤔
Probably maple -cherry, walnut, all work well

Walt could lessen that square-edged occlusion before the hs turning …imo
where did you get the bird?
Hi where do you get these tiny birds
I have some miniature KOI I think I’ll use….

NICE/BUT CSNNOT (UNDERSTSND) WHAT YOU ARE SAYING AND NO CLOSED CAPTIONS
You really need to be more aware of your camera positioning so we viewers can see what you’re doing.
Can't believe that you left the chuck key in the chuck. BIG NO NO, no matter how good you are.
