- Vice President Kamala Harris travels in a huge motorcade of armored vehicles and protection teams en-route to the Munich Security Conference, before later departing Germany in a C-17 Globemaster as 'Air Force Two'.
The Vice President Of The United States was in Germany to attend the Munich Security Conference with hundreds of other world leaders, government officials, military officials, business figure-heads and other VIPs.
She traveled in a heavily armored Chevrolet Suburban as part of a large motorcade of US Secret Service vehicles flown in from the United States.

After giving a speech at the conference, she traveled to Munich Airport to depart in a US Air Force Boeing C-17 Globemaster, call-sign 'Air Force 2' when she is on-board. This is not her usual mode of transport, but was a backup instead of the Boeing C-32 she would normally use.

I won't lie. I get a boyish thrill from the blue light spectacle but I often wonder if it's actually more secure than being incognito in unmarked cars with diversions or taking a chopper. All this announces the VIPs presence from the rooftops.

Supposedly much of the time her (or whichever VIP) could actually be in any part of the vehicle, in any one of the vehicles within the cluster, and sometimes isn’t in any of them at all. That’s one reason there’s never an attack on these motorcades.. it’s too risky for any would-be attackers to attempt since chances are they wouldn’t even be successful. If you pause at 4:13 you can see through the windows that nobody is even in that motorcade except the driver & passenger.

The American motorcades and aircraft tend to be the main objective just because they bring so much and it makes a fantastic video (only really China and Russia do this but we probably aint getting them anytime soon). So I can totally understand your commitment for when Biden came to Mexico!
After that, the side-objectives are the other motorcades, aircraft and activity during the event combined with a bit of local exploring.

That’s how it is here too. Live in Washington DC and the Secret Service doesn’t permit traffic around POTUS or VPOTUS.
That’s why they travel by air most of the time in the US b/c of the traffic it causes in NOVA.
Well it appears the German airports plus are still one of the most secure areas. My parents were stuck for a bit on the Rhine then in France for a bit. Germany was the only way out back then early 2000s Nothing was really flying here all planes downed. I think they landed in Chicago. We thought they may have to come in through Canada. They moved the Americans out quite quickly.

The US really doesn't trust other countries' security services when even the vice president gets her own vehicles airlifted for her. Does the US secretary of state use foreign vehicles or do they bring their own?

That's how the protocol set for every Executive Protection Service by the US Govt. that including the US Secret Service at every event. Either the US Pres. or Vice President locally travel to another town in the US, and The Secret Service logistically bring in their vehicles to that town, the same as they do overseas. It is not a show like hollywood creativity. It tactically projects deterrence to any hostile characters around and minimizes the chances of such untoward threats from happening. Those Chevy Suburbans are the perfect size of vehicle for protective requirements.
@@1martinjom But very few other countries airlift vehicles or helicopters for their heads of state when they're visiting overseas. Pretty much only the US, Russia and China. I guess it's as much about status as security.

Certainly, a visiting guest bringing in large numbers of security agents to host nation, must have approval and arranged by both the visiting and the host nations. Therefore, security arrangement must be approved by Germany prior to all these arrived

US administration officials travel abroad usually come with a very high-cost tag, the expenses include payment for all security protective details, personal chef n maid services, five stars hotel boarding, transportation, etc... not just for one person, but hundred of personnel.
Not to mention the emissions produced out of all of this, which are much more than what a single person will produce in a year even if they have more than one car.

8. Lastly... You hanger the press corps and news agencies from around the world.
The military transport is used to exfil diplomatic vehicles. These vehicles travels with the VPOTUS and security detail throughout her tour.
This is the cost of remaining relevant on the world stage. It's called diplomacy.
Most other nations are perfectly fine with much smaller motorcades and don't need to fly in their own helicopters or cars.

I hate these presidential visits and their motorcade. I used to work in Westwood Los Angeles, a place all presidential motorcade pass. The entire area locks down and takes hours to recover after the motorcade passes. The worst is these cars are actually empty, president travels on helicopter and I don’t know why these empty cars need locking down the traffic. What a waste of my tax money and interrupts already crazy traffic for hundred of thousands motorists.

I only watched the first few seconds of this to find out who the blazes Kamala Harris is. I have never heard of her, so I was curious. Why else would I watch a line of cars going down a street, and a plane taking off? Because the plane was carrying the vice president of a country that doesn't meet my minimum standards of anything I find important? I would rather watch Dutch, or French motorcycle cops escorting an ambulance. Much more exciting than watching this extraordinary waste of time and money.
