- Running the Columbia River Knife and Tool minimalist Bowie through its paces in the field and giving my honest review of the knife and its functionality. Cutting cordage, rope, meat, and more.
Good solid bit of kit. Built like a tank. A positive 'click'when you push it into the sheath. The sheath doesn't loosen with use. The finger fit of the handle is comfortable and grippy. The blade becomes a razor with only a couple of mins sharpening. 😊
I'm a steel snob, but I make an exception for my minimalist a few times a month. I could never get my hands on a real Folts. Arguably the best $22 I ever spent. Been in my rotation for years.
Where’d you get it so cheap pls?
@@joshuagray1920 I got it the sportsman's warehouse in Tucson, AZ. It was maybe 5 to 7 years ago. I believe that's why it was cheaper than today's prices. I recently bought my youngest daughter the D2 cleaver minimalist. It was over $40 shipped.
@@abboxeoko wow then I’ll snag the drop point at my work for 32 while I can
@@abboxeoko blade hq had a sale and I got the d2 for like 20
I didn’t expect it to baton, to be honest. You surprised me!
Thanks for this man, it’s a great review!
Thank you and thanks for watching! Have a good one.
I loved mine, I literally just ordered a new one today
Same here.😃
Is it the best steel? No. Is it one of the best knives I've EVER owned? YES! I've been a trapper for 30 years so I use a lot of knives. I carry mine at all times. I have this same model. I aswell, strongly recommend. Thanks for the upload. Subscribed.
I have 8k subscribers I'll share this on my community tab
Thanks so very much for watching! And thanks as well for the invaluable input. 30 years running traps! I'd say that makes you a subject matter expert all day long my friend. I used to run traps with my dad back in the day (mid 80's to early 90's) up near Starks Maine. It's something I still think about picking back up to be honest. Anyhow, thanks again for stopping by the channel and have an amazing day.
@@BNOOutdoors hey thanks a ton, I really appreciate that!
@@TheMaineiacguy no prob brotha shared this out as much as I could. You did amazing review . Sorry I didnt see this till now lol
Hope the sharing helped!
Just bought one of these.
It's pretty sweet for the money, comes with a decent edge, and it is solid. It's a good beater.
For sure.
5cr15 is similar to 420hc. Not great edge retention but is reasonably tough, won't chip or roll like harder steel. Good for kitchen knives. Just got one at Lowes. Impulse buy.
I have the crkt s.p.e.w and just picked up the minimalist Bowie yesterday I love both s.p.e.w stays on my belt minimalist around my neck both are great I also keep my kershaw link on me
The_masked_atheist yeah me to.
How about the 4th knife? 5th? 9th?
@@mouthbreather280 at the house
I just grabbed the cleaver and I love it! Great little edc sharp as a razor new and it can only get sharper! Great for cutting up food or boxes etc my typical edc chores
I was actually looking at those. Very interesting knives those. They look awesome.
Just purchased my first CRKT Minimalist loving it alot best knife ive ever owned and i only carry this knife on me other then my Buck 373 trio folding pocket knife with wood handle but im not going to use my Buck knife for self defense but i will use my CRKT Minimalist for self defense just because its small doesnt mean you cant use it for self defense you will definitely fuck someone up with the Awesome tiny Blade thats just my opinion loved your video will continue to watch great job
Thanks! Definitely a VERY solid little blade.
Love mine as well! Great as a little edc knife!
Your vid sent me over the edge.Bought it.
That's awesome! I hope you enjoy yours as much as I do mine. Thanks so very much for watching. 😃
I just picked up one and I love it
Sweet!
A clean-shaven knife reviewer---gasp!
Nicely done a solid knife. The custom comes up every now and again for a touch over $200.
Best review of this knife, thank you
Great review! Love this knife! /hello from Sweden :)
Hello! It's always great to hear from people. Kind of awesome to think of folks all around the world and enjoying our videos. Take care my friend, and have a great day.
The warncliffe blade style has been great as a work knife.
Got mine in KTP a couple of weeks ago. Nice to see how it holds. up I’ve only cut up some boxes for recycling so far.
Mine is still holding up well. It was my Jeep knife for the longest time and now I have it out in the workshop. May yours serve you as well as mine has me.
It’s not a good steel beside it’s corrosion resistance. It’s a cheap stainless steel and It won’t hold and edge well. but for that price it’s acceptable in my book. I also always have the work sharp field sharpener with me when hiking and this is a back up blade for my Esse 6 or 4hm so it’s not an issue. If you have the money Better knives exist like the Esse izula 2 and white river backpacker pro m1 bit those are a lot more pricy.
Good info my friend! Thanks for the comment.
Good backup to my auto knife and sidearm. Never hurts to have a little extra. It will get someone off of you
I think, there isn't any thing, the minimalist does better than the Mora Eldris. The minimalist looks great, but the handle limits it's use to much. I tried to use it as my EDC knife several times, but it's to limited in use.
I find it looses it's edge too fast as the steel is very soft and you have to sharpen it often. If anyone is thinking of buying this I think the Gears version is much better as the steel grade will retain its sharpness for longer.
I totally agree.
It's ok, I will only need to use it once ;)
@@Spartan_Ronin Nice 👍
Awesome knife came over from my brother BNO's
Hey thanks so much for checking out the channel my friend. Have an amazing day!
I love mine ita a amazing handy little knife
Just got mine today from Lowes not bad for 25 bucks
It seems to take a great edge , shaved with Mine this morning . Not sure how well it holds an edge yet but I’ll be using it hard
In the next few weeks , reckon I’ll find out ...
Definitely let me know how it holds up, and thanks for watching!
Well??
I’m thinking back when I was told the Indians first saw white people with long swords and they had three inch stone bone or obsidian sharp edge. Two different worlds.
“It’s crkt. I’m sure it’s good steel.” 😂😂. More like it’s crkt so I’m sure it’s 8crapmov. I’m still getting one though. I already have the spew and it a handy little bugger.
On blade HQ they actually have the cleavers in D2 and jade g10 scale's. A good upgrade over the 5cr used on the standard models. 👍
Shoot a little lower... I believe it's actually 5crapmov 😖. With light use it will still get the job done. I like mine a lot.
just bought one 32 dollar
I bought the Cthulhu model because I like Mr Lovecrafts writing it's a great little knife and it glows in the dark
Oh shit a lunch knife! Yummy!! Any reason to use a knife.
I have this knife and love it but the steel is crap....5cr15 low grade soft steel so under equipped for cost in uk £36 and deffo not a battoning knife. Its a toy knife but with an incredible design!!! Overpriced crap steel but id still buy another one....in fact ill be getting all the collection as a collector.
You see the D2 version? Bowie and cleaver
It makes a great defense piece!
I've just ordered one ,does it ever fall out ?
I have found the retention to be really good and have never actually had mine fall out.
@@TheMaineiacguy thank you 😊
@@marklawrence855 glad I could help. Thanks so much for stopping by and checking out our channel. Have an awesome day.
No. It never falls out and it doesn't even loosen after prolonged use.
but you may still have to use it for self defence if it is the only thing you have access to when SHTF.
True story.
Nice slitter.
Great design, terrible production. Mine came completely jacked and missing the lanyard and mine came in a sealed plastic blister package. Just saying it’s hit or miss with the Chinese.
Where did you buy it from?
Jeez I want one
Love the knife but the steel is craptanium. Edge magically dissapears every time it's used. I hear the Gears version is better but I dunno.
Boo
*5Cr15MoV Blade steel which is a very low quality steel especially for a knife blade.*
Uh... I don't think baloney is a very demanding test...
Lunch meat, carrots and a stick.
Yup best knife ever.
Wouldn't say the best knife ever but definitely better than one would think for a small knife like this. You should give one a shot and let me know what you think. The price is right, and I bet you'll be surprised. Thanks for watching, and have a great day.
My job won’t let me carry any weapons, not even honoring my ccw so I need to stick to blades with a length of 2” or under
