How did a nickelodeon show from 2013 have better effects than a movie from 2024

Oh sweetie there’s this little thing called budget Jejejej
@@PikachuMaribu Obviously the reason why it looks so bad is a rushed production and small budget. But even still, most movies have way bigger budgets than tv shows, and over time cgi and special effects have gotten better. There was obviously no passion or skill put into it that could overshadow the small budget
Somehow the CGI in the new movie is even worse then the TV show

The funniest thing about this movie is the fact that the old villains were more entertaining than the family with their kids

I think the "de-aging audience" effect in sequels is just Hollywood slowly forgetting how to calibrate for "family friendly" content and instead overshooting it to "childish". Part of it might be that it's simply hard to recapture the exact feel of an original property especially when returning to it after years or giving it to new people, but in general, i think even 10 years ago writers and directors understood young (and mixed-age) audiences much better than they do today. Nowadays it's like preteens = brainless babies, teenagers = even edgier adults.
Effect?
This sum up my exact thoughts. It's why Hilary Duff refused to do a Lizzie McGuire sequel shows because Disney want to make it for kids and no one else.
I think part of it might also be trying to maximize profit. Look at the population increase, there is a larger younger audience than ever before, so theoretically: gearing towards a younger audience = more kids watch it = more merch sales
@@maree4435 There is actually less of a younger audience now than when the show originally was airing (roughly 1 million less than). So the western population is not increasing due to more kids being born than before. So that "new young audience" all these companies are chasing doesn't really exist.
Remember when kids animated shows back then (like the DCAU or Transformers Prime for example) had some mature stuff that was for both kids and adults?

As someone who grew up watching the show and rewatched the entire series in preperation for the movie, there are a few things that I have to say about the show.
Now regardless of the intentions of the moive, I cannot deny that was heartwarming to see these characters back. It really felt like a show where everyone got along, and considering all of the behind the scenes content I've seen, I do still believe that.
Considering that I firmly believe that The Incredibles is the best Pixar movie, I am a big fan of the superhero family trope. It's also a bit rare that a Nickelodeon show so prominently focuses on the family aspect. Something that I did not pick up when I was younger was how genuinely great parent characters Hank and Barb are. Not to say that they're perfect parents, but that they embody everything that parents should. They put their family and their safety above all else, and that's something that kids might not pick up on. They also go through a lot of stuggles that parents must face. That feeling of middle age and not being able to do everything you used to be, the worry and saddness as your kids grow up and stop needing you, trying to remember and relive the "glory days". It makes sence why my mam and dad were actually quite interested by the show when I was younger.
A slight tangent that is related to my previous point. Phoebe is genuinely a terrible sibling to Max specifically and it's no wonder that he wanted to be evil for a long time. Think about the episode where Max tries to steal Phoebe's powers for Dark Mayhem. He was really debating with himself as to weather or not he was going to actually do it. Would he have? Maybe. The choice is taken away when Phoebe contronts him herself and takes his powers. Whether intentional or not, she does the EXACT thing she was angry at him for doing, and shoes no remorse at all. She just callously throws him aside and leaves. Their parents then basically imprison him for just thinking about doing the thing that she actually did. They also fill his prison with family pictures, a constant reminder that they openly love Phoebe more than him. The only one who didn't turn his back on Max was Colosso, a supervillain. So can you blame him for then turning into a villain? After taking the rest of the family's powers, Hank literally disowns him and says he is not their family anymore. Once again, after doing the exact thing that Phoebe did to him. Also consider that both Billy and Chloe likely could have escaped before their powers were taken seems to imply that no one actually thought he was going to go through with it until it literally happened. It's only after essentially attacking the family is Max disowned, and he is welcomed back with open arms after he does the right thing and becomes a hero. Once again, Hank and Barb putting family above everything else. (Okay that was actually a long tangent but it's just something I've always thought about. Phoebe is so genuinely horrible to Max during the series and while it's often not intentional, but this was far more evil than anything Max ever did. She could have told their parents and confronted him together, ending everything peacefully, but instead she goes straight for him.)
The show was often silly and campy, but you could usually see the heart behind it. For the most part, the acting was all top notch, considering that it was Nickelodeon show. Chris Tallman and Rosa Blasi are literally perfect in their portrayals. Jack Griffo and Kira Kosarin do a great job as bickering twins, and if you look at Kira's youtube channel, you can really tell how much she loved doing the show. I always loved Addison Riecke as Nora because she played the sassy and bossy little girl archetype to a T. Unfortunately, I do think that Diego Velazques does not give the best performance from like season 3 onwards, but I really don't think it's his fault. I thought he was great in season 1 and 2, but after that, they make Billy so genuinely stupid that it just stops being funny and I don't think there's an actor alive who could make those lines funny. Despite only being like 4 when she joined the cast, Maya le Clark actually gives a great performance. Not perfect, and during season 3 she was a little bit stilted, but only 2 years later by the end of the show, she gave as good of a performance as everyone else. But that leads me to my final point.
For some reason, the movie gives us a 3 year time jump, as opposed to the 6 year time jump that actually happened. Would it really have made a big deal if Phoebe and Max were 23 rather than 20? No, not really. Would it have made a big difference that Billy and Nora were 19 and 17 rather than 16 and 14? Maybe, but you could make a story like that work. Does it make a difference that Chloe is 12 rather than 9? Yes. While I would have much rather that The Thundermans were revived in a show rather than a 70??? minute movie (The ending scene suggests that we could get more in future so fingers crossed), if you're going to make it a movie, you need a tight story which is really where this movie falls apart, as Alex has described. The time jump provides a unique opportunity for story telling, and this is most evident with Chloe. A super powered child (Who has the strongest powers by far and it's not even close [except maybe with super speed] honestly don't even @ me. teleportation is such a powerful superpower and I will die on that hill and I was actually really annoyed when they pointlessly nerfed her powers in the movie.) who grew up not really having to hide her powers, only for like 2 years. They then spend the next 6 years fighting crime openly in public, never having to hide her powers, but always under the watchful eyes of her parents. Now take away all of the crime and throw her into a school full of other kids (something she's perhaps not used to considering that Billy and Nora had no friends while crime fighting) and at the extremely developmently important age of 12 or 13 and you have a few possible outcomes. Maybe she constantly shows of her powers to impress everyone. Maybe she becomes very narcissistic and gets a big ego. Considering that the big emotional climax of the movie is Chloe saving the day, they really could have built on that. Phoebe and Max had 4 whole seasons of being the focus, and this provides a new story to tell. But oh well.
Overall, huge Thunderman fan. Even though the show and the movie are far from perfect, I'm still glad that they exist and that I got to watch and be a part of it. Hopefully the T Force will return.

I grew up with the original show, and I have to say that I am disappointed with this movie. What these companies need to realize is that the people that are going to be watching this reboot stuff are the people that grew up with it and they’re older now so they should make this new stuff a little more mature. Also as somebody who has seen every episode of the original show, there are a ton of continuity errors in this movie

As someone who grew up with The Thundermans and watched the movie, it's not that great. Kira Kosarin (Phoebe) was a producer on the movie and really wanted it to have the same vibe as the original show, like purposefully including the bad CGI and the laugh-track, and wanted to cater to both original fans and kids watching it for the first time. It definitely feels more catered to kids nowadays rather than older fans who wanted something a bit more mature, like the Wizards of Waverly Place movie. Overall a C+ at best.

Coming from a guy who has seen every single episode of The Thundermans and it has been my favorite childhood show from Nickelodeon, I was a little disappointed in the movie. In summary of my thoughts: the CGI somehow was way worse than many other shows in the past, the overall storyline was very vague and rushed, most of the characters felt a little immature, the villain plot line made no sense at all, and the climax (Max’s and Phoebe’s sudden redemption) and final fight scene felt very weak, predictable, and forgettable. I honestly wish that they would’ve just left the franchise how it ended from the finale episode.
I really wish considering that the whole crew was going to make this movie worth the nostalgia and the best comeback movie ever that all of us were hyped for, that they would at least be a little more considerate or aware that their targeted audience now is like late teens and young adults, ( the series is for the newcomers) . This whole movie felt very childish and super fast-paced like a classic Nickelodeon and or Disney show or movie. But I am not spreading hate to the cast and crew. I know how much this franchise has made a special place in their hearts, they have tried their best to make a comeback and work their hardest to even make a movie which is great, they had a wonderful and emotional reunion in the meantime, and I hope that they will continue to make more memories together in the future. If this was meant to be a throwback to the show it worked too well. The characterisation for the most part felt like it came right from the show, and if you didn’t catch the one about this being three years later only the three youngest kids would show it. Max and Phoebe conflicting over a mutual goal, getting trapped and opening up about their motives thinking it’s the end is so overdone it’s lampshaded afterwards by someone who wasn’t even there, and Max feeling overshadowed by Phoebe is why he was aspiring to supervillainy for the first three seasons.
Hank and Barb feeling insecure because their role as parents seems redundant? The show did that (and the movie spells out the helicopter parenting joke because it doesn’t trust the audience to get a very obvious point). kira kosarin's tiktoks abt this made me so eager to check it out bcz i loved the thundermans but wtf is this💀
Agreed. I hadn't even watched the entirety of the Thundermans and only watched like two seasons. Then Kira's RUclips shorts popped up on my feed and the way she hyped it up so much made me want to get a paramount subscription just to watch it
I used to watch this as a kid because I had crushes on various ladies in the show.
I don’t blame you lol
I still have crushes on them lol! Look how good Kira Kosarin looks! And Barbara! (Unfortunetly they are both married, and Kira married recently...unfortunetly)
You’re saying you had a chance? Maybe she’ll read your comment and get divorced, I mean what did you think was gonna happen
@@scottoleson1997 That she will magically appear at my door and eat dinno nuggies with me!
@@scottoleson1997Gurl chill it’s just a silly crush 😭
I’m pretty sure that metro burg (or whatever the city is named) from the first shot is just Shanghai
9:43 - That's very supper.
I'm 20 now and I was a big fan as a kid so technically I'm the generation that's being 'nostalgia baited" here. But maybe it's the nostalgia but the original series looked so much better than this.
Also Nora's new look had my jaw on the floor
Yep...Nora looks like she was tortured and did surgery with her eye lasers...in a broken mirror...in a dark room...while half asleep and drunk.
9:13 "and im old as shhhhh 😂😂😂
Oh! I remember reading something in Animation Magazine about 20 years ago that was about older kids enjoying content for younger kids. I don’t think they approached it like a sociologist would, or a psychologist, (maybe they did though, it was well before I went to college) but they interviewed a few kids and asked them about the shows that they watched that a lot of other kids their age would consider themselves too old for. But I remember pretty clearly that they were not talking about a scenario where like “you were watching this when you were 8 years old, and you’re still watching it at 16, what’s up with that?” It was about teenagers watching new shows made for and marketed towards tweens and younger.
The typical answer was “it’s like comfort food.” It’s simpler, and familiar (even when it’s new), and it makes it easy to escape into a time with less stress and fewer complications.
So, I wonder if that’s what they’re trying to achieve with this age regression thing that some show reunions do. “Hey remember this thing from 5-10 years ago? Wasn’t that a simpler time? Don’t you want to revisit that simple, dumb, fun?”
Also, it can’t hurt them to use new projects to bring in younger kids to the IP, so that they will go back and watch the series.
4:58 As a gen z, this is the most accurate description of gen z I've ever heard
I actually really enjoyed this movie, but then again I had very low expectations for this movie.
One question why did chloes power have a cooldown in the original show she teleported everywhere back to back so it doesn’t make sense to me that she has a cooldown now
That is such a good point! 👏
There were MULTIPLE times in the original show when Chloe would teleport somewhere and then teleport back just a few seconds later!
Thank you! I thought I was the only one who was thinking about this!
She wasn’t teleporting the whole family, just one or two other people at most, so maybe the more people she’s taking with her the more likely she has to recharge. It does at least track with Hank and Barb being more focused on protecting her than learning the limits of her powers.
Each of those sighs said more than a thousand words
Bruh, that CGI took me out. It's so bad, lolol.
11:25 did they really have to CGI the water LMAO
If you watch the Thunderman movie they say that it was liquid Mercury not water
9:04 “Eer moy gurrrd”
I think the original show was more mature than this movie
I just found out about this channel forget the movie lmao but his animations are super clean fire channel keep up the good work
Why was I Carly actually more adult than this. I can’t believe they couldn’t do thundermans the same
Unfortunately, if you want to be so bad that it is good, you have to try to put out a good product. You can't put out a bad product and hope that people just like it because it's bad. It seems that Hollywood never learns this lesson.
i was like 7 when i started watching the thundermans and now im a junior in freaking highschool. they definitely missed their target age group
Definitely… how could they not know the teens were gonna tune in? It’s not like Gen alpha even knows what the thundermans are…
Looks like Spy Kids 3
