In a way, Zone of Interest getting as many high level nominations as it did is a win in its own right.
This year feels like a weird inversion of the typical trends. Its pretty straightforward when you've got an idea of which BTL categories go to which film, and from there apply it to ATL support, but now we've got obvious ATL winners and several races in the techs. At the end of the day I'm just happy we've still got some races
For costume, the flocks of audience goers wearing pink is an extension of that film’s costuming achievement. The Barbie costumes had huge real world impact, fashion labels taking inspiration, the iconic rollerskating in Venice Beach viral set photos, if you go to any crowded public space you’ll probably come across someone wearing Barbie clothing. You also later said “what business did Suicide squad have winning” in regards to hair and makeup. The Harley Quinn/joker hair and makeup was everywhere in the general public, it had real life implications which made it hard to ignore. Same happened this year with Barbie’s fashion
@Jose-sx4ql They should or at least first week of Febuary like it was every year before Lockdown Then it was 2021: May 9th 2022: March 11th 2023: March 17th 2024: March 10th But because of the strikes & Oppenheimer basically being the frontrunner since September that's why it's felt so long

the only genuinely cool wins would be The Boy and The Heron winning Best Animation and Godzilla Minus One winning VFX. not holding out any hope for either, bc the Academy's track record is garbage especially in the Best Animation category, but other than that I'm just grateful that Oppenheimer has everything major sewed up, so at least 7 of the major categories will end well.

Thing is about the Boseman comparison, the move was a lot smaller the Killers of the flower moon in scale, and the potential win less history making. Let alone Glenn Close. The posthumous narrative doesn't match (in my opinion) the current buzz about a native american winning for the first time
Gladstone's performance is probably not the most trivial best actress performance ever nominated but it would definately be the most trivial to win. The Academy loves to reward movies that will never be mentioned again but the stature of Stone's performance may force them to do the right thing.
The awards but lilly gladstone in leading role becase The story about her character. Even if the film make her act it as supporting actross. And let leanardoo de caprioe leading role. If lilly gladsyone not be in leading role She supporting role And that mean she threat to davine joy randolf. Not to emma stone... And that time she sweep in supporting role not davine joy..or the comption btween them. So davine joy randolf Lucky becse lilly was in leading role. In battle of stones. role of lilly gladston important historical. The best in lilly gladston Not the long time in screen The best in lilly gladston case Her acting soooo good. If they will give her oscar The mean reasion She act soooo good Not she act sooooo long.
"Do the right thing" oh grow up. It's a subjective thing, acting like Lily Gladstone winning is the objectively wrong thing is just stupid and makes you look like an idiot (or bigot)
I certainly wouldn’t say it’s trivial, I do think she does a really good job, but I can’t say it’s a leading role, because I felt like the script held her back, and she was too passive in the latter half of the film
Including this year's nominees, there have only been 5 times where Costume Design & Production Design went 5/5: 1964 - My Fair Lady won both 1965 - Dr. Zhivago won both 1969 - Anne of the Thousand Days & Hello, Dolly! split 2003 - Return of the King won both 2023
@@dariussalepetru6770 It did win both, but I'm referring to Costumes & PD having the same exact nominees with each other. Cinderella & Carol only got in for Costumes, while Bridge of Spies & The Martian got in for PD.
ه 🏆 In designe I rooting for top three : ( poor thing-napleon-the killer of flower moon)♥❤ Poor thing design😍 Amazing Victorian dress 😍 The designer creative spcial costume from victorian era. take the style from real era but creative special dresses for charchter. Wedding dress♥long coat♥shoulder dance dress♥ Napleon Amazing ❤♥❤ But the most costumes was military uniforms So the designer make beatfull uniforms suit for the era but without creativity. Just Based it from the real era. Still amazing 😍 Oppinhimer So normal costumes Becase most of costumes was Tuxedo- formal suit for men. So they dont creative something special. The film was not need fashion more than acting. Barbi Kain The only charachter Was amazing coustumes in the film Barpi lead actross was normal when she must be more showy as the leading role. The killer of flower moon Sooo good💚💙💛❤♥ But original story The native amrican of story was wearing same white amrican but in film they make them wear traditional native amrican coustumes.
I agree with Matt for VFX, in that I see Godzilla Minus One as this year's RRR. Both are international films that made a big splash in the US, both have its diehard fans. Both only received one nomination at the Oscars, but that allowed all the passion for RRR to be concentrated on that Best Song win.
@@Lamidemonami7891 That's totally fair, but I'm comparing them in terms of hype. RRR was released much earlier on in the year, and was hence nominated at the early awards shows like Globes and CCA. Godzilla only really started to take off in the US in mid December, and from that to there being a successful black and white re-release in January, I feel like the film got a groundswell of support, and has a rooting factor similar to what I felt from RRR last year. Not to mention that it got plenty of critics circle awards as well (which is not on its own comparable to the RRR precursors, I concede, but it is to say that there is a precedent to awarding its visual effects).
I still feel like Emma Stone is going to win. I loved Lily in Killers but I’m not feeling the same momentum for her to win as I did Michelle Yeoh last year. And Emma just crushes her role and her speeches for awards are funny and memorable, kind of like Olivia Colman in her year
@@tonyg76her speeches was about praising movie, director, screenplay, crew and cast. Not “moving” word salad that inspired Kate Winslet🤦♀️ Please, make this be about movies not minorities feelings🙏🏻
Emma stone and Sandra huller gave the best performances of the year. I don't understand all the praise for Gladstone (she definitely deserves the nom) . But I do think she is going to win for the oscar historic thing.
I pretty much agree with all your picks. I could really see Napoleon winning VE because of what happened with First Man... and its weird that godzilla would win its only nomination so I said Godzilla but I really think if it doesn't win then it'll be Napoleon. Creator probably actually deserves it
For me the most exciting categories are Actress, Sound, Adapted Screenplay. Actress - Gladstone, Stone, or Hüller - Hopefully Hüller! Sound - Oppenheimer, Creator or Zone - Hopefully Zone! Adapted Screenplay - Oppeheimer or American Fiction - Hopefully Oppenheimer!
AMERICAN FICTION has the Adapted Screenplay Oscar locked up. It has won Critics Choice, BAFTA, and USC Scripter. This is the first film since CALL ME BY YOUR NAME to win all 3. Except for UP IN THE AIR (which likely lost due to credit controversy), all movies that won all 3 ended up winning Adapted.
Spirited Away did not beat Monsters Inc. it competed in 2002. Allegedly some people at the time thought Ice Age was a front runner. Maybe even lilo and stitch just an odd year there
If I set my parent's down, made them watch Barbie and Poor Things, and then asked them, "So, what did you think of the costumes?" I think there response would be, "You can just tell us you're gay, it's okay."
I’m going with Boy and Heron. I compare Across Spidyverse to How to Train Dragon 2. Both are pretty identical in terms of improvements over their predecessors. Dragon 2 got most, if not more awards than Spidy but lost Oscar. Also, last few Toy Story’s that won were supposed to be the last ones lol. There’s a difference between mid sequel and it’s final one if makes sense. Boy and Heron all the way!!

@@melvinsoo1110 I still think Lily Gladstone is winning Best Actress. I do believe it's Maestro if they don't win Hair & Makeup. There's a chance Poor Things could go home empty-handed
I read American Prometheus. Nolan’s adaptation is mind-boggling, capturing the essence of the biography in a well paced 3 hours. But no one will have read it. Or the first-person narrative of the screenplay. My bet is that when WGA comes around, the guild will vote him the deserved win.
Matt's anecdote about what he heard an Oscar voter say about the Barbie songs is pretty much the opposite of my experience. "What Was I Made For?" is one of the only things I liked about that movie, and I can't recall much about "I'm Just Ken". Speaking of songs, I am way more fond of War Is Over than Matt is, but I agree that it would've been better without the needle drop.

Gladstone's performance is probably not the most trivial best actress performance ever nominated but it would definately be the most trivial to win. The Academy loves to reward movies that will never be mentioned again but the stature of Stone's performance may force them to do the right thing.
The awards but lilly gladstone in leading role becase
The story about her character.
Even if the film make her act it as supporting actross.
And let leanardoo de caprioe leading role.
If lilly gladsyone not be in leading role
She supporting role
And that mean she threat to davine joy randolf.
Not to emma stone...
And that time she sweep in supporting role not davine joy..or the comption btween them.
So davine joy randolf
Lucky becse lilly was in leading role.
In battle of stones.
role of lilly gladston important historical.
The best in lilly gladston
Not the long time in screen
The best in lilly gladston case
Her acting soooo good.
If they will give her oscar
The mean reasion
She act soooo good
Not she act sooooo long.
😮
"Do the right thing" oh grow up. It's a subjective thing, acting like Lily Gladstone winning is the objectively wrong thing is just stupid and makes you look like an idiot (or bigot)
I certainly wouldn’t say it’s trivial, I do think she does a really good job, but I can’t say it’s a leading role, because I felt like the script held her back, and she was too passive in the latter half of the film
Including this year's nominees, there have only been 5 times where Costume Design & Production Design went 5/5:
1964 - My Fair Lady won both
1965 - Dr. Zhivago won both
1969 - Anne of the Thousand Days & Hello, Dolly! split
2003 - Return of the King won both
2023
2015 - Mad Max Fury Road
@@dariussalepetru6770 It did win both, but I'm referring to Costumes & PD having the same exact nominees with each other. Cinderella & Carol only got in for Costumes, while Bridge of Spies & The Martian got in for PD.
ه 🏆 In designe
I rooting for top three :
( poor thing-napleon-the killer of flower moon)♥❤
Poor thing design😍
Amazing
Victorian dress 😍
The designer creative spcial costume from victorian era.
take the style from real era but creative special dresses for charchter.
Wedding dress♥long coat♥shoulder dance dress♥
Napleon
Amazing ❤♥❤
But the most costumes was military uniforms
So the designer make beatfull uniforms suit for the era but without creativity.
Just Based it from the real era.
Still amazing 😍
Oppinhimer
So normal costumes
Becase most of costumes was
Tuxedo- formal suit for men.
So they dont creative something special.
The film was not need fashion more than acting.
Barbi
Kain
The only charachter
Was amazing coustumes in the film
Barpi lead actross was normal when she must be more showy as the leading role.
The killer of flower moon
Sooo good💚💙💛❤♥
But original story
The native amrican of story was wearing same white amrican but in film they make them wear traditional native amrican coustumes.
I agree with Matt for VFX, in that I see Godzilla Minus One as this year's RRR. Both are international films that made a big splash in the US, both have its diehard fans. Both only received one nomination at the Oscars, but that allowed all the passion for RRR to be concentrated on that Best Song win.
RRR was a much bigger deal in the awards race and also won precursors. You can’t really compare them.
Lily Gladstone was not a lead.
what the hell was that effect
This video is more interesting then the actual Oscars lol
I still feel like Emma Stone is going to win. I loved Lily in Killers but I’m not feeling the same momentum for her to win as I did Michelle Yeoh last year. And Emma just crushes her role and her speeches for awards are funny and memorable, kind of like Olivia Colman in her year
Very true. I have enjoyed Emmas' speeches more than Lilys'.
@@tonyg76her speeches was about praising movie, director, screenplay, crew and cast.
Not “moving” word salad that inspired Kate Winslet🤦♀️
Please, make this be about movies not minorities feelings🙏🏻
@@marikamarika7205 Again, completely agree. Also praising her Mom was awesome.
Emma stone and Sandra huller gave the best performances of the year. I don't understand all the praise for Gladstone (she definitely deserves the nom) . But I do think she is going to win for the oscar historic thing.
@@johntheX That would be a disappointing win/reason for win. I am 100% team Emma!
I pretty much agree with all your picks. I could really see Napoleon winning VE because of what happened with First Man... and its weird that godzilla would win its only nomination so I said Godzilla but I really think if it doesn't win then it'll be Napoleon. Creator probably actually deserves it
The Oscar analysis is just on another level with you guys
Well, and Matt is awesome!! I really likes how he approaches sensitive Oscars topics so well. Great guy.
Can Brother Bro drop the link for that sensational shirt please 🙏??
We would purchase that indeed
Justin’s shirt is adorable 🥹❤️
Can't wait till next year's NBP x OE crossover where Matt is just gonna be like DUNE DUNE DUNE DUNE
For me I really hope
Actress - Emma Stone
Sound - Oppenheimer
Adapted Screenplay - Oppenheimer
Barbie is a dark horse in Screenplay
I don't see Fiction going home empty-handed after how surprisingly well it did with nominations.
@@celticdw1983I thought the same about Tár and Elvis last year.
More Oscar's experts is always a welcome!
Spirited Away did not beat Monsters Inc. it competed in 2002. Allegedly some people at the time thought Ice Age was a front runner. Maybe even lilo and stitch just an odd year there
If I set my parent's down, made them watch Barbie and Poor Things, and then asked them, "So, what did you think of the costumes?" I think there response would be, "You can just tell us you're gay, it's okay."
keep up the great work bros!!
Brother Bro giving us Blue Coquette with that top, to avoid showing shirtless, todo bad, he needs the courage to show that skin
The costumes in poor things were so beautiful and original. Emma stone looked so good in those gowns.
I hope Emma wins
Me, too!
Yes
Brother Bro’s got serious drip with that shirt. I want it!!
Also, they will not give an Oscar to animated sequel.
No livestream?
Right! That's what I wanted to see.
Brother bro looking buff 🤙🏽
Haven't checked out American Fiction yet. I'll have to.
Like tha fashion game on fleek you guys

Love the predictions. I have a feeling another Best Picture nominated film will be joining Past Lives as the film(s) going home empty-handed
It's either Maestro or KOTFM.
@@melvinsoo1110 I still think Lily Gladstone is winning Best Actress. I do believe it's Maestro if they don't win Hair & Makeup. There's a chance Poor Things could go home empty-handed
Loved Matt's cameo in this 🥰. He always brings some new insights to the table !
Very interesting indeed
what's a bigger upset for you guys, The Zone of Interest winning Sound or Emma Stone winning Best Actress?
Zone seemed slightly less likely
You forgot that Cillian Murphy won the Golden Globe.
Great Video. Love that Matt is here :)
I want 95 senses to win. So the director of napoleon dynamite can have an oscar
I just wish Emma Stone win actress
I read American Prometheus. Nolan’s adaptation is mind-boggling, capturing the essence of the biography in a well paced 3 hours. But no one will have read it. Or the first-person narrative of the screenplay. My bet is that when WGA comes around, the guild will vote him the deserved win.
I’m rooting for Oppenheimer (I predict 8 Oscars) and Sandra Hüller 🙏🏼🙏🏼
Sandraaaa ❤
After being Queen of Cannes, „Queen of Auschwitz“, and Queen of BAFTA, I‘d like her to sneak up and become Queen of Oscar.
Hoping for 23/23… yet also some surprises. 🤷🏼♂️ Only the Academy Awards!
Best actor: Cillian Murphy
Best actress: Lily Gladstone
Best supporting actor:RDJ
Best supporting actress:Da'vine Joy Randolph
WOOOOO YEAH BABY!!!!!
