    It’s hard to explain how grateful I am that you created this video: I have often felt frustrated at simply drawing a line to denote a bond when there’s just so much more happening!

    I just finished my inorganic chemistry lecture and immediately checked if you have a video regarding what we studied in class. It took me around an hour to solve the HF2 question and figure out the character table on my own but it was so much fun! Your sketches and labeling of the molecular orbitals helped me a lot. Thank you Dr.

    This video is really good, but I wish the s and p orbitals were labeled too. I haven't gotten to connecting the Mulliken symbols yet. However, it has helped me visualize the building of MO diagrams much better. Thank you for this.

    You said at minute 1:08 that 2) if not linear y is axis points to outer atom, but at minute 10:07 you show us the H2O molecule axes, with x is axis points to outer atom. Can you explain this ?

      Sure, as I mentioned at 1:08, setting the axes is arbitrary, you can have whatever label you want so long as you are consistent throughout and understand what you have done.

    And also another question how do you draw such beautiful MO diagrams I mean which program do you use? I also need to create some MO diagrams for an article and I am a freshman PhD student and I never got a good answer.

      Hi, sorry for the late reply, I use an svg editing program called inkscape. I think it is available for all major operating systems. It takes some time to get used to but you can customise it to your requirements.

    Thx for this video, I just want to point out that the y axis should be out of the screen according to right hand rule, otherwise great explanation!

      Hey, I think it's important to note that if you manage to maintain the same reference system, you'll be able to combine the right orbitals and arrangements. The only thing that may change is the symmetry labels, for instance, I could have placed the water molecule in the zy plane instead of zx, the only change is in the B1 label for B2 when I write the irreducible terms for the H2 arrangement. Adam, excellent treatment of the topic and I'm quite surprised on your ability to explain complexity in such a brief and comprehensive way! Thank you so much for these videos, I'll not hesitate in sharing them with my students.
