Thoughts on blankets and duvets... I have 3 bedrooms and live alone. Each of them 3 beds have 2 if not 3 spare duvets/blankets. Buy a sleeping bag, £10 can be unzipped and used as a blanket, and it will be a lot lighter and a lot warmer than any blanket. Will dry a lot faster than a wool blanket to.LED Motion Sensor Light PIR USB Rechargeable Portable Cabinet Stair Night Lamp 4 for a tenner ebay will cut down on electricity use. Although the initial expense is quite steep for what they are Tapo TP-link have bulbs/sockets etc that automatically turn any light bulb/switch into a dimmer, so lots of lights/bulbs around the home can be set at 5% or any percentage. I bought 6 pairs of socks 4 years ago at £32 each! Crazy? Maybe not as I will never buiy another pair of socks the rest of my life. If the socks ever wear out Darn Tough will replace new for old at no cost.

Word is that the price cap is going up again in October so I'm canning everything cannable in my freezer so things only need reheating rather than cooking from raw when the utility prices go up again. The space that I'm making will be used for batch cooked meals for the same reason. I'll do as much as I can at the current gas/electric prices.

I use my electricity in the middle of the night to save money. Such as washing and drying cloths, cooking, hoovering the house. The rates are lower in the wee hours of night. Sparks,Nevada U.S.A

Looking forward to September, let me tell you. It is 26.5 degrees C indoors and I don't even know how hot outside...probably over 30. I dash out to do something in the garden, or get the mail, and then dash back in again, I just can not stand it for long. As for being "skint" for a week before payday......there has GOT to be a way to set something aside, even if you don't spend it. I admire people that brave (I have a friend in the same position, she will be down to her last penny three weeks before the pension cheque comes in.) I could not do it.

Ive been preping for winter too. Every nook and cranny that can store wood/ logs for the wood burner is already filled as they are selling them 1/3 off atm - so Ive been buying about 2 packs a week during July and August. I always have washed blankets and duvets in August but 2 days ago my washing machine decided to break!!! So its double down on the frugal then ....😢

We just went from temps near 100 F to in the 60's in just the last few days. The cool air has reminded me to stay busy. So much to do as I have to restock my house because of last winter's tough stretch.

You've got the right mind set. I start thinking the last week of July. Our seasons are off this year where I live. We are about 6 weeks into autumn going by the signs of weather, plants, animals. I believe my area will have an early and cold winter. To that I bought meself 3 more jumpers at the thrift store for 99 cents each and Xtra socks. Blessings to all ❤

Up in Helmsdale yesterday and the hills are smothered in purple heather, so beautiful. Rowan trees full of orange berries, oaks, ferns and grasses are now changing colour. Its glorious and the seasons are changing. We have increased our electricity direct debit in preparation for cooler weather too, here our heating will likely go on in the next 4-6 weeks. Stocks are completely ready here for higher winter stock levels, that feels good. Cant wait, my favourite seasons are coming up soon.😁

Snap! Lots of folks ate getting ready for winter. I've washed the winter hats/gloves/etc. Am considering how to lower my electric bill more before the next price hike (chest freezer, I'm looking at you), looking for warmer lined curtains & slippers in the charity shop. Also need to get winter coats sorted for everyone in my household, my good one has given up 🙁 Plus more loo roll and continuing on with the declutter. It doesn't stop, eh?

You are in Scotland so you really need to prepare for the harsher winters, we are down south and last year our winter was quite mild. no cold weather payments too. Winter is going to be very hard financially for low income people cover pension age. I can't believe Labour scrapped that. My mother gave me a crocheted blanket for christmas, I love them, they are so warm. I may stock up on winter soups for winter. i have been dehydrating mint leaves for hot tea this winter. we picked up some blackberries this weekend for winter
