  • All hail the triumphant return of MagSafe!
    All New MacBook Pro models come equipped with the latest MagSafe 3 port, which boasts quick charging potential with the 140w adapter (sold separately for 14" models). However, the new MacBooks can STILL charge with USB-C, and come equipped with ports on both sides of the laptops.
    MagSafe is faster and safer, but more expensive and less versatile. At $49, can it beat the $19 USB-C option as the best-bang-for-your-buck MacBook charging solution?

    I have a doubt and it was not clear on the video for me. I have a MacBook Pro M2 Pro 16”.
    Which one is better to charge it, the MagSafe that comes in the box, or the Apple 240W USB-C (that I bought also)?

      Se você usar intensamente o Macbook e precisar carregar ele durante as tarefas, o Magsafe é melhor. Mas se você preferir carregar depois ou não tiver em uso intenso, o USB-C serve tranquilamente.

    I keep the MagSafe 3 charger that came with my 2021 16" MBP at the home office desk. I purchased a Hyphen-X 100W GaN PPS Type C Fast PD Charger and a 3 pack of high capacity USB-C cables from Amazon. I use USB-C charging with this combo when away from the desk because the Hyphen-X has 2 USB-C and 2 USB-A ports, which covers me on all my travel charging needs for other devices (iPad, Samsung phone, Fitbit, etc).
    I do like that the MagSafe charging will optimize the battery life with occasional discharge to 85%. And since I'm mostly plugged in at the desk (weekly pre-COVID travel has fortunately not returned yet) it seems I'm doing best for battery life.

    • @kdcarver
      @kdcarver Год назад

      Darrell, you wrote that "MagSafe charging will optimize the battery life with occasional discharge to 85%". Where is this documented? Did older (MagSafe 2 and 1) chargers perform the same maintenance?

    • @SoloNupe84
      @SoloNupe84 Год назад +3

      @@kdcarver It seems to be more a function of the Optimized Battery Charging feature in the OS (since 10.15.5). I can't find where I read that it works with MagSafe 3 charging and not USB-C charging. I have only seen it do it with Magsafe 3 charging though. Oh, and it might actually be 80% (instead of 85%).

    Ya saya juga punya MBA M2 tapi saya lebih sering menggunakan type c untuk pengisian daya. Ya karena saya punya kabel dan adaptor yang bagus sebelumnya untuk mengisi daya MBA M1. Alasan lain yang penting kabel alternative untuk magsafe 3 susah didapat dan itu juga mahal seperti mcdodo magasafe cable.

    I really like the tear away MagSafe. It saved my laptop at an airport once. I hate to think what would've happened otherwise. That said, the M1 architecture is efficient enough that I rarely need to charge away from home. USB C is more practical in that case.
    I fully disagree with the effort to legislatively standardize tech however.

It is a 13-inch Macbook Pro from about 2012 and 2013. Is it okay to buy the USB C electric charger to charge the laptop, or will I need to buy a connector that will enable the charger to work on my old Macbook Pro which does not have a USB C electric connector on it?

      Hello. Macbook Pro 2012, mid-2012, 2013 didn't have USB-C type port at the time they made it. So you can only charge with with a MagSafe cord, the MagSafe 1 only, 60W or 85W doesn't matter, it will take charge at the same speed. USB-C type cable can only be used for recent Macbook Pro.

      Go with the USB-C. MagSafe is nice to have but not a requirement and requires you to carry an extra cable around. A USB-C cable you can use for other devices in addition to charging while magsafe can only be used for charging.
