In 1971 in Roswell NM, I snuck in to town from our little farm town of Hagerman N.M. I went to Alco Dept, Store and bought Dick clarks 20 years of Rock and Roll ,this song is ethched in my mind its so beautiful ,thank you ,I like Badfinger ,Wings, And the Rasberries ,I could not let everybody see I liked the old 50s stuff I had to keep it under my hat for a while Now im glad I did .

I really want to know how musicians know what to play over chords just like the beginning of this song. Surely it can't just be from imagining melody alone, is there a guideline or rule of some kind?
I played what is played on the original record. But generally musicians follow the key the song is in and the chords that are being played. This song is in G, so playing notes in the G major scale will most likely sound good. And then if the chord is a G major, playing the notes of that chord (G, B and D) will sound good. If it’s a C major chord, playing those notes will sound good (C, E, and G). That’s why musicians practice scales, chords, and arpeggios (chord notes played separately.)

Great job...I always enjoy your Venture tunes and "Venture like" tunes...my first good guitar in 1962 was a Fender JM that I paid $230 for, used...so it had to be an early model...wish I still had that guitar ! I learned all of the Ventures tunes I could from vinyl records playing "drop the needle", but I never got any of them sounding as good as you do ! I've learned a lot from you playing them the right way ! Thanks and keep up the good work !
