Brava to both Astrid and Anna! The two of you are a joy to listen to as well as to watch as you spin another fascinating yarn of the secret war within WW2. Thank you, Darlings!
@@astriddeinhard433 You did an amazing job Ms Heinhard, as did your daughter, the humour and ambiance is contagious! I really hope one day our national spy to us Québécois will be on the show : Guy Biéler! Or perhaps he is too dull, idk.
In addition to the fascinating history you ladies bring to light in your World War Two videos, you are delightful and entertaining presenters. Many thanks, Anna and Astrid! 👍❤👍❤
Espionage is always an interesting topic. The war involved so many unpredictable characters on the move, all with complex interests and beliefs. Fascinating that one never knows how anyone is going to react when confronted with a life and death moment.
Ok trivia fans, during WW1 there was a two-seater British aircraft called the R.E.8. Over 4,000 were built. They were nicknamed "Harry Tates" after the show-biz star mentioned in this video.
These are such fascinating stories. Intelligence is such a huge thing in war, yet its always, and rightly so, shrouded in secrecy that you never find out much about it. All of the stories you folks have uncovered and shared are fantastic.
I just love when Anna and Astrid are on together! Such an interesting story, and they work so very well together. I always look forward to Anna's "Darlings" greeting, and this was double the fun. I do however miss Anna's signature, "SMASH THAT BUTTON" command! Thanks for all the folks that work so hard to bring us this great channel!
It was a great presentation, interesting and factually informative. A fantastic team you have there, this family duo, with their interactions, made it that much more entertaining. Thanks again from Austin, TX.
Astrid n Anna are wonderful hosts. I hope they keep this up. I love the Spies n Ties videos. This one was particularly informative. Who knew a man like this really existed. Great job.
The real question is if he knew what the Nazis did to gays or not. If he did, his claim of becoming a double agent to save his life makes sense. After all, while homosexual acts were considered crimes in WW II Britain, at least the punishment wasn't a likely death sentance as it was in Nazi Germany, since he would have been sent to a concentration camp. The fact that he was able to survive until he could live more openly as himself truly shows how good an agent he could be.
If we Remember what the British did to homosexuals (famously, to Alan Turing) even after the war, I feel that there wasn't much to choose from for a homosexual in the 1930s and 1940s. On the other hand, being gay does not mean one couldn't buy into a racial theory or be dazzled by the apparent (key word apparent) roaring success of the Nazi reconstruction of Germany (stabilizing the country internally, rebuilding the economy and the national pride after the humiliation of the end of the WW I and the Versailles treaty).
Nah, fewer than 15,000 German men actually got sent to concentration camps for homosexuality, a fare worse than death to be sure, but keep in mind that over 100,000 German men were indicted for homosexuality and almost half of them never served any jail time. The Brit’s and the Nazis were relatively equal in the social treatment of gay men
Thank you ladies for this production , It was a story that I knew nothing about . Once again the presentation on this show was fantastic, these two ladies are fun to listen to and thank you to all the researchers as well
Fabulous story, fabulously told! A self-preserving, Belgian, Nazi-leaning, gay, successful double agent for the British. Once again, the truth is much weirder than we could have possibly imagined.
Seeing Anna made me think back to all of the "On the Home Front" episodes, which made me reminisce about growing up in a rural farm area, where a suspiciously large number of the older men spoke with thick accents and carried very German names. I found out that they were all POWs who had been sent to the area to work the farm fields for food production, had met local girls, fell in love and got married. They settled down and today have large families and prosperous farms in the heartland of the United States. Sounds like a great OTHF episode to me........................
Thank you Astrid, Anna, and TimeGhost Crew for another fascinating Spies and Ties segment! Spies truly are a curious bunch. As John LeCarre said, regardless of ideology, nationality or values, there’s just a type of person who makes for a spy. Fascinating too, the process of creating double agents. Great acting too from Anna! 😂
When you got to the part about going to British Cameroon I was waiting for the laughter… I loved the bloopers from the other day. Another wonderful episode thanks.
Sorry if this is off topic but seeing you two ladies rocking these 40's styles so well makes me wonder so bad what went wrong with fashion and make-up in the past 70 years
So there's this war going on with millions under arms, death and destruction on a global scale, and scattered here and there are these weird characters supposedly engaging in espionage but really looking more like rich fruitcakes playing parlor games. What a nuthouse this planet is!
What's so strange about being gay ? I've known guys that had multiple children before that realization. "Beginners" , starring Chris Plummer issa beautiful film.
Nothing at all strange with being gay… being gay and a Nazi though… you do know the Nazis put people in concentration camps simply for being gay, right?
More that he had bought into the bulk of the Nazi ideology even though he knew he was gay (as it was obvious that his ex-wife was used as a cover for his actual sexuality, based on his affairs while married) - an ideology that deemed homosexuals as life unworthy of life and sent them to the concentration camps if they were openly themselves.
Your style of cateye glasses are perfect for your face, they just need to be a bit smaller. They're a great fit on Astrid, but she has a rather different face than you, and smaller ones of the same style would fit you greatly!
