as jobu said that she made the bagel not to destroy everything but to destroy herself so the entire last fight sequence was a mother trying to convince her daughter that believes "nothing matters" to keep on living despite everyone saying the universe would be better if joy/jobu never existed so she tries to erase herself from every possible universe since, with access to every universal version of herself, could never actually die otherwise.
@@OfficialDNJmoviehouse oh that show is worth watching for more than Stephanie Hsu. It’s over now, but really worth the watch. She was added in season 3.
"A-ba" for dad is just because dad is ba (爸) or baba (爸爸). A (啊) is used as a prefix when calling someone to indicate closeness/intimacy. So mom can be "a-ma" (啊妈) or you could call a friend a-[insert name here]. So dad can sounds pretty similar to ah-ppa but mom is not oh-mma. The "noir" scene and all of the super movie star Evelyn was actually shot to emulate Wong Kar-wai's "In the Mood For Love," especially the slo-mo crowd and the green lighting of the alleyway.
that was very informative thank you! and the noir scene was one of our favorites in the whole movie. Someday we'll need to check out "in the mood for love"!
Great Reaction! I saw this in the Theater and cried my eyes out. Normally this type of reaction to a movie would keep me from going back to watch again where everyone can see me get so emotional, but with this one I didn't give a shit, I went back and watched it 2 more times (3 total) and then bought it as soon as I could. A couple fun facts you might appreciate: 1) The budget for this movie was a tiny $25 Million... and then according to 1 of the Producers, they were actually able to pull all of this off for only $14 Million. Freaking Insane!! There were days where Jamie Lee would rent food trucks out of her own pocket to feed the cast and crew. On Hot Dog Fingers day, she rented a Hot Dog Truck. LMFAO 2) They filmed this movie in only 38 days due to the COVID lockdown that occurred. Also unbelievable but true. 3) OFC it won every Oscar, but some ppl are pretty pissed Best Supporting Actress went to Jamie Lee instead of Stephanie Hsu (the daughter). The explanation is that the Academy was doing a 'make-up award' type situation since they've never given Jamie Lee an Oscar. I also agree it should have gone to Stephanie. 4) The S&M guy who gets spanked is played by one of the Directors (Daniels). The 2 'butt plug' actors are actually the stunt coordinators in the movie. Anyways, great reaction and thanks for reading if you've made it this far!!
Tyvm! I agree this is one of those we're going to watch again. We picked up a lot of little things we missed on our initial reaction while editing and it made this movie even better. Those facts are amazing, thanks for sharing! We can't believe they did -that- on that financial and time budget. Also yes Stephanie Hsu should've gotten the award IMO. Thanks for watching and commenting!
@@OfficialDNJmoviehouse Awesome! There's so much I pick up on every time I re-watch this movie, and yet one of the most obvious I never realized until the other day when I heard another reactor point it out: The googly eyes that Waymond puts up everywhere is literally the exact opposite of the Bagel. (White circle, dark center VS Dark circle, white center). Such a freaking brilliant yet subtle way of showing how Joy represents nihilism and Waymond represents kindness. Anyway, sorry I'll leave you guys alone now (you seem like a great couple btw)
@@tommygilbreath The bagel and the googly eye represent the Chinese yin/yang symbol. The bagel is the dark yin manifestation. The googly eye represents the bright yang manifestation. Each contains the seed of the other. The funny part is I heard the directors said this was purely coincidental - which sort of means the universe was speaking thru them in this movie.
@@tommygilbreath The symbolism in that bat shit crazy movie is so tight, I laugh as soon as I see all the Bagel images (laundry machines) in Evelyn and Waymond's laundromat. In the movie, laundry represents the drudgery and toil of our daily lives. Taxes represents "the system" leaning on us on top of that. Most of the movie takes place in an IRS building! What I didn't notice till the third viewing is when Joy finally emerges from the Bagel and embraces Evelyn in the parking lot, we see over them in the background the neo lit word "LAUNDRY". LOLOLOL. Beautiful.!
I've said the same thing for 25 years... Sometimes when you wake up and look in the mirror it's not the person you expect yo see looking back at you. Something isn't quite right...
I highly recommend you watch this movie more than once. My first time, I could only watch about 20 min at a time. It was just too much. Gave it a score of 7/10. But I thought the sound track was revolutionary so I went to see it again at the cinema. There the whole movie clicked and blew me right out of my chair. Now it's one of my all time favorites. I've watched it at least ten times and could do a one hour lecture on the movie if somebody paid me.
I really feel like Stephanie got robbed of best supporting actress. Curtis is great but this wasn’t it, replace Deirdre with anybody else and it would played the same. It’s Jobu that makes the movie and would be irreplaceable. Just my opinion
This is probably the best movie in the last 20 years.
It's truly a masterpiece and deserved all of the awards it got. And even more crazy considering the low budget it had.
The last movie to come out of nowhere and impress me this much was the original Matrix, back in 1999.
When rocks convey emotion, you know you have something special.
One of our fav scenes in the movie

this is going into the cinema hall of fame forsure
I'm with you on that one. What a great movie!
The actress who plays the daughter was in The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. She was great in that show.
She killed it in this movie. We might have to check that out, ty!

Just looked it up and it's rated really high! Might check this one out in the future!
