Bone Stock Nissan Versa On Forest Road

- I finally get my codes read to see why my check engine light is on.
It was just as we suspected, there was a small leak in the EVAP system, more than likely caused by a faulty gas cap.
After a few more shop shenanigans, we get to a rescue/recovery mission on the east side of the county.
We received a call about a motorist that was stranded up the Cottonwood Springs Road, about an hour from the shop.
I was able to make brief phone contact with a stranded motorist, and verify their location.
When we got to the little white Nissan versa, we first had to get it turned around. This proved to be a fairly simple maneuver, and soon they were driving down the mountain under their own power.

"Bone stock Nissan Versa versus forest road."
This is called natural selection.
Should have read "Bone head in Nissan Versa"...
I bet both of them are grounded.
Took my 16 focus on Forrest roads all the time.. 3mph max and your alright haha. Now doing that in snow is retarded.
@@gypsiewanderer24 they said they were sleeping when rescue arrived. They are lucky. Shit can go south quick in the snow and cold. Being asleep is probably the last thing I would want to be given the same set of circumstances. That said...I wouldn't be in the same set of circumstances.
😂
This tow is going to weigh heavily on their weed budget.
sixtyfiveford Lmfao 😂😂😂😂
Yep!
😂😂😂 😂😂😂
Hey bro, you got any pizza or Twinkies or Doritos in that Jeep man?
Hahaha 😂
Anybody thats been inside the dash/hvac system in a Cherokee knows why you're gonna beat that fan until its wailing like a strangled goose and blowing fuses before you replace it. I sure as hell would. Two thumbs up.
@@maddawgnoll some cars its a real pain to get out. Even on my car it took 20 minutes cause you gotta rotate it just right to not hit the other stuff
Yes!! Exactly right.
I thought that was so weird, because my Wj, similar, but not at all similar, had the fan right below the glove box, ez pz
Devon Deaton my buddy’s old Cherokee kept popping the 15 amp fuse on the blower motor, we eventually got tired of riding home cold and replaced it with a 35, no more issues 😂
@@maddawgnoll you had a pre 97 cause 97 and up you remove the entire dash and a bunch of crap and then put your entire dash back it sucks if you have a 97 and up model.
Matt has the patience of Job. Being kind to everyone is a full time job!!
marty Agreed. Matt’s a good guy.
marty yeah obviously
He has to get laid
Person man
Especially difficult when getting a call before 5am after a late night.
Ooo ... but that's not supposed to be a ''job'' soyface, :p
Another "What The Hell Were You Thinking" moment having to be held inside due to professionalism.....Well done.
I love that the glow of the reflective tape on Matt’s jacket makes him look like the saintly angel of off road recovery we all know he is!
The dog was the most intelligent one in that car
True, even given the fact that he was constantly running in front of the car!
I'd like to hear the conversation in the Jeep after the camera was shut off !
TheSlagman0 thank you
7:30 were we realized that Matt needs to carry an air horn more than he needs to carry a winch.
Gotta give that Versa props for making it that far, some decent tires and you could really adventure in that thing!
Bone stock versa? Who upgrades a versa anyways lol?
I think that guy might. He will probably get a loud muffler tip then a whale tail to improve off road traction 😂😆😁
I guess snow tires are an upgrade
And would a heavily modified versa had helped in this situation anyways? XD

The first 2 minutes of this video remind me of going hunting/scouting as a kid. There is just something magical about being on a dirt road at sunrise
Man...Super impressed with Matt. He always makes sure the people get out safely. Totally professional and caring. You can’t beat that!
Noncarguys take the check engine light way more seriously than car guys.
That's the truth. Last time I checked my codes to see if there was anything new I was down to 1, just a bad cat. The other 3 or 4 codes fixed themselves.
My jeep and my ram has had the light on for years when it goes off I get nervous
as long as you know what it is setting the check engine light off its okay to ignore it. on my xj the one time i ignored mine without checking the battery and alt died, fixing that in the driveway in the snow wasn't fun
Truth.
If it ain't flashing ignore it
That Versa driver lives in another dimension. Long puff, wow man, this front tire is bald, cool.
WOW!! You rescue in sand, dust, water, mud, rain, and now snow!!!… I’m extremely impressed!! 🤠💪🏻👏🏼👍🏽 ⛄️

Bhahaha is that really what he said?
Rudy should have said back...
OK zoomer.
liftman3334 Some of these people’s minds would be blown if they experienced their same car with proper snow tires.
Carolus Magnus They were asleep when this took place, Matt literally woke them up, not everyone is that alert only minutes after waking up.
“Calm down, I ordered a new mirror”. Too funny! Maybe that will clear the code.
"Bone stock Nissan Versa" as opposed to 4WD Nissan Versa with 6" lift, 35" M/T tires, and front and rear lockers!
GrnXnham I was thinking the same.....
He said that to signify that it almost made it out without any modifications in that snow and mud
😂😂😂
Were can I find rear lockers for my Nissan Versa? I've looked everywhere.
This kid was in a serious bind. He needs some serious tires and different car for these kind of roads. Thanks again to Matt for a great video and a good save.
Matt reminded me of a police officer showing to a call for a DWI on the road just sitting at a red light.... Tapping on window to wake them up safely. LOL
I thought that was Matt that blew by me on the freeway doing about 110
As long as I've been watching your channel Matt, I have come to the conclusion you are NOT an idiot. As a matter of fact you have an off road savvy that only experience can provide. I have never been able to understand trolls that think a guy is ignorant because he does things the way he chooses to; especially when your trying to run a company. Most viewers have figured out that [you] constantly have to prioritize issues on the fly. OK I'm done (RANTING)
Its amazing the common sense that no one seems to have anymore.
Don't know why they call it common sense it's not that common.
@Jay Dee there may have males but definitely no men...
Why do you think they call it Dope
Makes sense to me, they are all democrats.
I love how Matt uses his body to help rock the car! I thought I was the only one who did that! That's awesome!
I saw that, too funny, it works though.
It's amazing to me how blissfully unaware some people are but another great video keep up the good work guys
Love a mechanic who knows his stuff, can explain it and isn't super freaked out by leaving stuff un-fixed for a bit.
I hear that. I totally agree with you. Preventive Sherlock sees stuff before hand, The blower can wait is right. I'm outta here for my holiday. Last minute rush (5 hour) jobs really put a drain on the joy factor. It can wait for later Jim
Thanks for the simple towing tips. Last night a 2000 suburban slid into the curb, we had fifteen inches of snow. I pulled out a old lifting strap, and popped it onto the road with a unlocked tundra. You have good tips if people know what to look for.
My 2001 Cherokee has had the same codes for >14 years. The check engine light is just there to let you know it's still running.
I love that the title bone stock Nissan versa somehow alludes to there being a community of offroaders driving modified Nissan versas.
I worry when my jeeps check engine like goes off because then I think something really is wrong
Gas mileage is usually worse when the light is on.
Bryan Hensley big facts.
Somehow dont think he cares about mileage on his jeep
Yeah, then your light bulb is blown.
The day you tow a bricked Tesla CyberTruck with a drained battery will be interesting.
paul1mdrn the future is now
Hopefully they'll take the dual motor or tri-motor AWD. Those would have a 300 or 500 mile range. If they have any brains they will charge it decently before off roading. Will have plenty of range for off roading. If it was disabled it weighs less than a superduty truck, so I think Matt's Cherokee could manage.
and bullet holes in the windows
@@nonconsensualopinion I have a feeling a year or two after they release the reliability reports are going to be astonishingly low. Tesla was removed from the reliability report by consumer reports. I believe they might be barely back on as of right now. I feel a big problem with electric vehicles is the technology might be there, but it hasn't faced the test of time and been refined. The motors in those trucks will not come even remotely close to the life of a gas or diesel engine, and I doubt offroad they would survive nearly as much abuse.
Yes!
Great job Matt and Rudy, always classy and professional. I had the same code on my Grand Cherokee 4.0l and it was a cracked 90° rubber boot on the underside of the intake just below the throttle body. It connected to the canister. I ran with the CEL on for years before I found it.
Judging from what that jeep does for a living and having 210,000 miles on it I'm amazed the check engine light still works. I'm also very impressed with how capable it is off-road which has a lot to do with the driver.
4.45 "this is my kind of repair" Couldn't agree more.
Love your broadcast. I've learned a lot about recovery tactics. You have the perfect temperament for your occupation. Keep up the good works!
Totally right Brian, I was thinking the same thing. Jim

I like your repair process. You're too busy helping stuck folks to worry about small mechanical stuff. Great channel. Thanks.
We are super busy for sure in both aspects.

A good vid with my morning coffee!!
Enjoy your videos, and since I've been watching them I have pulled out two vehicles stuck in ditches with my kinetic rope. Keep those videos coming!
I like the head bob / body rock in the drivers seat. We call that ooching in the sail boat racing circuit.
Ooching is now a formal Recovery Term!!
If your asked if you have tried Oooching to get unstuck when you call Winder Towing. Now you know what they’er talking about 😆 👍
Chill informative content before the actual pull out. Now that's something I could get used to for sure.

_Yep, it's still there!_
Tough terrain, the camera really doesnt show how tough it is and difficult for cars. Great video!!!
Good work! They were pretty brave to drive that far in there, surprised they couldn’t get it back out on their own though... I used to spend hours getting myself unstuck from similar situations as a dumb teen lol!
to stop getting out of the car-- invest in two handheld walkie talkies. to tell the customer how to steer.
I tapped on my starter in my rig for a year and a half until it finally gave up the ghost. Got my 100% use out of a OEM 35 year old Toyota starter.
That was a beautiful view of both cars in the blue light. 👍🏼
2:16 Like ZOINKS Scoob! There's some guy knocking on the window!!
🤣🤣🤣😂
Another great video. Each of your recoveries has its own little nuance. This one was the first wakeup recovery I have noticed.
It made me wonder if having a Refresh Package for your clients, would be nice. Like upon arrival offer them water and maybe an energy bar. Ease their tension in that it shows them you are on their side. And they may need the refreshment.
I know Matt usually doesn't like these kinds of remarks, but its not a sign of wisdom, to go in this snowy forest road, with a road car, probably all weather tires, and only FWD. Some people really should know better. Good that Matt's up there to get up 05:00am when its freezing and drag them out to safety!
Absolutely! All seasons though, they would have been even further and more stuck with all weathers probably!
Matt IS a great example of a professional doing a great job, Again. I really hope he gets paid well for this stuff. Jim
Welcome to the world of men at work Ruddy
Love what u guys do. I still think u have the best job in the world. Im master tech and love my 3 xjs. If u un clamp the accumulator it will rotate on ac line quick release. Pull out leak detection pump. Its tight but u can get blower motor in w/o moving fuse box or pulling down ac.
I have done them that way as well.
I put a used one im mine only to have the cage instantly explode and have a do over right away.
@@dualsportrider3221 Bumski on that, I had a similar experience with several repairs to the point of not doing them anymore unless a new unit was installed, or the person was gonna pay me twice for the same repair
Which has happened more than once now. Jim
I've been tapping on my blower for almost two years now. Finally replaced the blower. Luckily mine was just three screws and an electrical connector from inside the cabin to change. Only had to roll the passenger seat back to do it. Gotta love ~brand removed to avoid trolls~ best truck I've ever owned!
Must not be a Chevy. Mine has lasted 540,000 miles and runs all the time. It doesn't have an off.
A Nisan Versa in any weather is sketchy lol 😂.
They are dangerous on dry roads.
My two sons are now in college. They grew up with RUclips, Wikipedia, and Reddit. The older one has a mantra, "do NOT feed the trolls." 5:00 The troll's sole purpose in life is to get you to start a fruitless discussion with them. You make them happiest by responding. You make them frustrated by ignoring them.
7:30 how freaking passed out were these dudes that you had to bang on the window for like a minute to wake them up!!!??
He seemed like he was on some type of drug.
Marijuana and being 16 will do this to you
Stoned out of their minds lol
Dude was straight zonked from smoking weed.
Sooooo high! I hope they paid quite a lot, would insurance cover them?
You DO NOT have to remove the a/c accumulator/drier to remove the blower motor, or evacuate the a/c system. The trick is to simply unblot the retaining strap holding the a/c drier in place and twist the "bottle" up gently with the a/c o-rings still in place. This worked for me and I did not develop a refrigerant leak afterwards. Yes, it's a tight fit, but it does work. I will say there is a chance the o-ring will leak afterwards due to age and being seated in one placefor 20 years.
Lmao, I hope there’s gonna be more stoners getting stuck in the future, this is entertaining 😂😂😂
@jrg10332 functional stoner :-)
@jrg10332 shout out to you brother. I had a 2008 jk 2 door on 35's and I just had to laugh at the 16 year olds like this that have this expectation their vehicles can do this? Like even if you're stoned to the bone you can think with logic??
Carolus Magnus ya and your probably just jealous 😂
jrg10332 lol my bad I should’ve made my comment a little more clear, I meant the type of stoners that go dumb when they’re stoned and they don’t know anything about vehicles, I’m from California, I smoke as well and I have an XJ, I usually smoke for an appetite or right before working on my cars, I usually focus more and get stuff done quicker. stoners come in all sorts of shapes, sizes and colors 🤷🏻♂️
jrg10332 who knows, maybe I’ll be the next stoner getting stuck and Matt will be getting me out 😂😂 I’m taking a trip out there soon
Yay! The light bar on the jeep works now!
My next step on my rig, after trying a new gas cap, was replacing the evap purge solenoid.
It`s not hurting anything mechanical. Just a matter of how much time and money to stick into turning the light off. Don`t take it so serious , guys. bwahaha
@@REDMAN298 - The main reason to fix it is so you know if you have a new code that could actually lead to more substantial problems if not addressed.
@@dustintunis9347 I agree to fix it if practical. I used to work in new car dealers and evap codes could be real losers to your pay. Factory pays poorly to fix their fuck ups and they inspect the old parts because of being cheated in the past. I used to replace gas tanks due to an integral valve. Smoke test are not the best for minor leaks. Then remember the intermittant light mentioned. Sure you hope it`s a loose gas cap.
@@REDMAN298 can't pass smog tests if your check engine light is on, can't renew your registration if you don't pass smog. This is in many states BTW. So there's that.
We used to service a model of Macintosh computer that, when it was left powered-off for extended periods of time, the hard disk drive bearings would freeze-up and when it was powered-up the platters wouldn't spin-up.
We eventually figured out that slapping the computer low on the back HARD with an open-palm would break the seized-up grease enough to get the platters spinning again. We referred to it as the Mac Slap, but in workorders would write, "performed percussive hard disk bearing adjustment."
You got it.
I'm starting to understand how these situations happen. When you've got to the point where you need to back out, you cant because you have no place to turn around.
True, I have reversed my sedan out a long way on Occassion

The lighting on your face was better with the soft amber glow of the light. But you are still the coolest guy on RUclips.
fixing your mirror would leave a better reflection on you! (OK, that was bad!)
Matts smile is a great reflection alone. A mirror would blow us all out. LOL. Jim
This was a similar move to one that severely damaged my Nissan Rogue. I wasn't driving or even there but I did watch a video of it. The driver got it crossways in the road and dug the front down in the ice a bit. The tow guy came up the middle of the road and took his chain and went around the front of the tire and hooked it on the lower control arm. Then he winched the front around and in the process of doing that pulled the steering full driver. That put incredible force on the tie rods till the outer tierod bent and the lower control arm also ended up tweaked enough it had to be replaced. Apparently, the outer tie rod can't be replaced on a 2017 rogue? So they wanted to replace the whole rack and pinion setup. Thousands of dollars worth of work.
Just a warning to any Novice 4x4 guys doing recoveries to not put those kinds of forces on a wheel because the steering components are not made to take it. In my case he should have initially either hooked underneath behind the tire like Matt did here or a couple soft shackles through the spokes or a bit of strap through the spokes. Then once the car was at an angle crossed in front of the drivers side tire and hooked to the lower control arm on the passenger side. This would keep the pull forces from trying to steer the wheel. Fun times.
That jeep ought to really run great after you put that new turbo fan in! 😉👍🏻😁
CALM DOWN I ORDERED A NEW MIRROR . GREATEST LINE IN ANY RUclips CHANNEL EVER .
Looks freezing cold. Next thing you know you’ll see those kids driving a Cherokee. Lol
The most impressive thing about the yellow XJ? The hatch stays up on it's on in cold weather. ;)
You could place a hammer hooked to a spring on top of that blower motor, and run a string through the firewall to tie to the head of the hammer, so you can just give the string a pull when you need the blower to come on. Then you can save that new blower until the old one goes completely out. lol. That should be enough to drive the trolls completely insane! lol.
I loved seeing you rocking your body while you rock the vehicle.... I have been there many times growing up!
Wow, I replaced the blower motor on my '03 Tundra by removing 3 bolts under the dash. The ONE big drawback of watching these videos is sitting through the Mike Bloomberg ads. Sorry Mike, it ain't gonna happen.
I got Pete. Still sucks.
He is a saint for not telling these idiots how stupid they were LIKE OMG DUDE CALLED 911 15 TIMES wondering where the helicopter parents are?
You guys are high tech. I use electrical tape to cover up my check engine light.
I keep a roll in every vehicle just for check lights.
THE LOOK ON YOUR FACE WHEN YOU WERE STOWING THE ROPES SAYS IT ALL.
I have owned a versa, great little commuter cars, but not for those roads lol
We have two of them. I second what you said!
I watched, hoping to learn where to hook up a strap
See you get the concept, "stay in your lane".
Until the cvt takes a shit maybe
Just clean the gas cap. It worked for me. Well clean the surface of the metal too. They just don’t seal well with years of grime on them.
Winter tires would have helped. Below 6 Celsius, summer tires are like plastic
@elmosmidlap temperature measurement unit. 6 degrees Celsius would be 42.8 Fahrenheit
@elmosmidlap - It's a measure of temperature half as precise as Fahrenheit designed to confuse us 'Mericans. 🤪. I think 6 C should be mid low to 40s F... 6 above freezing C is very roughly 12 above freezing F therefore 44ish.
Summer tires work great in the cold, but not on snow ;)
The below 6 degree is a old myth. No problem with modern tires.
@@simonsms410 you're right, but I would add rain to your snow. It's all about how lucky do you think you are. In Europe, during the winter, below 6 there's always a chance of rain, snow or ice. And I don't feel lucky 😁

You shouldn't hit that with a hammer... Use a crowbar!!!😂😂😂
Crowbars are also useful on Trolls. There's a reason thy hide under bridges near me ;-)
Hey, ya know, "If ya can't fix it with a hammer it must be an electrical problem."
The technical term is Percussive Maintenance. Which tool you use is just a matter of procedure. :D
