    After seeing a few fellow FK8 Type R owners have issues with their engines sputtering, dying and seeing an incredible amount of rust in their spark plug tubes, I decide to check mine to see what's going on. This is when I get in and take the plugs out to check, let's see how they are.

    Dear FlyinGato, I am no mechanic, but I was NOT willing to pay a Honda dealership shop $250 to replace my spark plugs. I watched your video carefully, several times, bought the recommended tools that were highlighted on your video and biddy bing, biddy bang! It took me 20 minutes. I was careful with the screws, I had purchased a long, magnetic, slim 14mm socket wrench, so the spark plugs were out and in, in a flash. I used the torque wrench set to 16 lbs. torque to tighten the plugs and now the car is zoom, zoom like before. I really, REALLY appreciate your video. Excellent job and you are in my prayers! Thank you, thank you! P.S. I bought NGK Ruthenium HX Spark Plugs specifically for the Civic FK8 from JSR Engines for $70 and they were pre-gapped.

    Excellent video, as usual Gato. Very useful info regarding the 14mm socket size for the Type R plugs. I've change a fair number of plugs across several makes of Japanese and German cars, and I've never run across a 14mm spark plug size before. One trick to "upgrade" a standard 14mm thinwall deepsocket into a plug socket is to secure a short length of correctly-sized rubber hose within the socket to grip the end of the plug. Haven't tried it yet myself, but I've seen it work. Also, just my personal preference: Denso brand over NGK. Both have an Iridium offering, and the Denso are a little more $$$, but I've seen them stand up to hard use on the street.

      This is good to know! I'll look into denso when I change the plugs

    Great video Gato. I'm not a pro but I dont think you are supposed to use a torque wrench to loosen bolts. I'm thinking it impacts the calibration.

    • @raulvasquez807
      @raulvasquez807 5 лет назад

      Just read low torqued bolts are fine as long as you dont exceed the limit of the wrench.

    • @FlyinGato
      @FlyinGato  5 лет назад +1

      Yep that's why I used it, it's a very low torque situation

    Excellent companion videos !!! how many miles do you have to change spark plugs? my TypeR has 15,000 miles of which 3,000 miles in circuit on trackday. I took them out at 13000 miles and they weren't bad. What do you recommend me?? have you changed them already? greetings and congratulations for the excellent videos.

    I bought a Thin Wall 14mm 12 point socket to remove my original spark plugs (2019 1.5L Honda Civic). The socket works on the new plugs, but it won't fit onto the plugs that came with the car. I can't understand why. Can you help me? Could it be 15mm or 16mm?

    • @martincarman1725

      I got a 15mm. It won't even fit down the access tube. It must be a 14mm. Why am I having so much trouble!

    You used a torque wrench to break the spark plug loose. That’s a precision instrument tool, that torque wrench is no longer accurate.

    • @FlyinGato
      @FlyinGato  4 года назад +1

      You can use it as long as you never exceed its max torque rating, and I knew spark plugs aren’t tight
