What would I do if I had to start an online coaching business from scratch today? Building an online coaching business requires that you have an engaged audience. So building and growing your audience has to be your priority. You can do that by forming and building client relationships in a Facebook group before getting to your coaching offer.
I’ve previously shared videos on how I started my coaching business on the side to over 6 figures before I left my nine-to-five, but a lot has changed since then. So I think it’s high time that I do an update. What would I do differently?
I agree with most people that building an audience through an email list is effective, but I also think that you need to really understand that audience before you can convert them successfully through email. Additionally, writing emails is not the easiest thing to do. It requires skills that you might not yet have when starting out on your first online coaching business.
Facebook groups are a great idea because they allow for intimate communication with your audience. I recommend starting a Facebook group and naming it in relation to your area of expertise. This way it's clear to people who it's for and what the point of the group is, which makes it a lot easier to find as well.
Building a list out of a place that already has a high traffic volume of your ideal client is also a great idea. Do your research on which places you can go to get in front of them. Think podcasts, publications, and social media platforms which they already follow - if you can connect with the owners of these platforms, you can find a way to get in front of their audiences who are also your ideal clients.
Remember, while you might be brand new to your coaching business, you are not new to your expertise, so you can be confident that what you have to offer is valuable. Let platform owners and their audiences know about your career story and track record, and why your expertise makes you a credible coach.

I created a Facebook group before but I don’t know how you attract people to your group?
