My mentor in the early eighties Jack Wood, would bring back orchids from around the world an his wife Marie would climb a ladder and use a staple gun to put them in the trees. Their back yard was spectacular and responsible for my love of orchids.
First time watching this video, thanks Dr. Motes for sharing all your wisdom. So much to digest but so much great stuff. You just make everything sound so much more simpler. Even though I live up north I think I’m a Floridian at heart!
My live oak was planted by birds and I decided to leave it. Its still growing and I'm waiting for it to become a little more shady to put cattleyas and vandas on, because my west facing grow space is shrinking. Thanks for sharing and happy growing.😊

When I was a kid in Lauderdale, I found Butterfly Orchids growing on Seagrape trees, in Birch State Park. Never saw Orchids growing on that type of tree anywhere else. Also I never saw Orchids growing on pine trees, although many use it for orchid bark.
Another wonderful video by Dr. Motes. I also live in SE Fl and am actively trying to populate my landscape with orchids. In the middle portion of the video Dr. Motes ran through numerous genus/species of orchids that seem to take to outside mounting. Any way you could add to the video description or comments the list of orchids he mentions? Some of the genus/species is was able to catch but not most. Have to know what to keep my eyes open for on your website. Thanks again for the informative series.
Thanks Dr. Motes for your wisdom! I have been fortunate with Dendrobium on my Senegal Date Palm (Phoenix Reclinata) which bloom 2-3 times a year. Also have my Cattleya on the same palm in front yard and in Dec/Jan gave at least 12 blooms; was stunning in my humble opinion. Cattleya also does well in my backyard mounted on a King Palm which was a pleasant surprise, since it is not very barky and takes direct sun at the end of the day. Appreciate you sharing great advise!
I love listening to people like Dr Motes with such vast knowledge. :)
