  • The basics of Ground orchids, also known as terrestrial orchids, are a diverse group of orchids that grow naturally in soil rather than on trees or rocks like their epiphytic counterparts. These orchids are found in various habitats around the world, from tropical rainforests to temperate woodlands, and they display a wide range of sizes, shapes, and colors.

Depending of the region it's hard to optain ground orchids. Got 2 Phaius tankervillae (white with green and light pink shade) from local orchid show. Searched for more (and the standard coloured Phaius) found hardly any in Eu shops let alone the brown-pink variety which is the most renowned in USA/Aus.

i have heard the UK does a fair amount of Phaius but not having been there I can only say what I have been told . Their cold hardiness is probably what makes them more available in the EU than some of the others .

Hello! I have 3 ground orchid (spathoglottis) bulbs, and they've grown so many new growths already but they just dessicate or suddenly turn brown before reaching maturity. First I've already changed the soil because first issue was the media because it's not that well draining. Then it was resolved the growths were healthy but then suddenly they browned again. Right now they have little growths again and now I hope they don't drop off. Only one of the bulbs mananges to grow a big growth.

there are several reasons these new shoots die back , soggy media/overwatering , being planted too deep , overfeeding with chemical feeds , and temperature fluctuations and lack of air movement . In high humidity environment make sure you dont overwater

@@thenaturecompany Hello! Yes I held back fertilizing and watering as well! I'll just fertilize once a a month and I water once a week or once every 10 days!
will also repot is soon in a more sandy medium when the new growths mature! Thank you so much! 🥺🙏
