What Doctor J TRULY has done for the game of basketball has been shamefully lost in translation by the media and fans down through the decades. He was the game's first marketing superstar and his style of play influenced most of the greatest wing players and small forwards who came after him. He is one of the TRUE icons of the game of basketball

The problem was that the NBA saw Maravich as just a flashy player where the truck passing was seen as showing off. It wasn't until Magic Johnson came around that trick passing became acceptable. Why?.....I don't know. Maravich didn't suck at all though and even in the NBA he could still score. Not LSU numbers, but better than average for sure.

Better than average? What do you think average is/was?
Pete's first 10 years in the league......9 of those years, he averaged 21+ ppg. 4 of those season 26 points per game...and one season where he averaged 31 points per game.
He played in an Era where, NBA games were JUST beginning to be televised. There was no big media market for the NBA, yet but trust and believe- players like him and Dr J, brought the INITIAL flare and flash to the league. Los Angeles was and always has been, one of the bigger markets in all of sports. Not to mention, it's where Hollywood is. So, once the late 70's, early 80's hit, the NBA had a much bigger media presence, which explains Magic Johnson. To Magic's defense- he IS the greatest point guard ever. Ever. Ever.

Such a shame that they never were on the same roster together (while even so close to it on the Hawks). Dr J was 3 years younger than Maravich but they started as pros just one year apart (one in the ABA, the other in the NBA), and when Pete was hitting his peak, Erving was at his best in the ABA. Imagine them on the same team in 1977 (when they were killing it together in the All-Star Game)! Then of course Erving took some time to adjust to a new league, new team, new teammates… while the Pistol was hit with career ending injury and didn’t play into the 80’s. Doctor still lasted until 1987, won MVP and a ring.
Julius and Pete pretty much were the basketball epitome of style and flair in the 1970’s. And more than that, they were WAY ahead of their time! Their impact and influence is extremely underrated/overlooked, and how they REALLY helped to usher in a new era…

@@BasketballJones48021 Despite his knee injury, I think Pete could still play meaningful minutes in the NBA in the 1980s. Because the bucks owned the rights to his contract, they and the Hawks went in to a legal battle, in which neither side could come to an agreement. A district Court Judge ruled that THE ONLY TEAM IRVING COULD PLAY FOR AT THE TIME, was the Virginia Squires...in which he went BACK to the ABA.

Unfortunately it wasn't until Magic and Bird came into the league where trick passing became acceptable. When Maravich joined the NBA, his teammates and commentators criticized his passing as "flashy and unproductive." He was above average for sure and played for teams like the New Orleans Jazz where he had no help. Then got traded to another team with no help. Therefore, no Championships to cement his name.
Fun fact: He played on the Celtics with Larry Bird where Bird picked his brain on passing skills.

Jesus Christ is coming back soon. Turn from all your sins, get baptized in the name of Jesus, and follow Jesus the one true God who came in flesh to die for our sins to be washed away. Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life, and the only way to Heaven. Get a real, deep, and honest relationship with Jesus. Love everybody, forgive others, obey all of God's commandments the best U can, and preach the gospel to the world. That is your true purpose. U don't have to be perfect to follow Jesus, U don't have to go to church, it's not about all that religious stuff, its all about your relationship with Jesus. He jus wants U to try your best to do everything he wants U to do. The word of God says we are saved by our faith but it also says our faith is dead without works so we show Jesus we Love him with our actions. Don't let the Devil decieve U, Jesus is our Lord and Savior, Jesus Loves U, and Jesus has a purpose for U. Don't let the Devil distract U with things of this world, don't let him destroy your purpose, dont let the Devil have your soul. Give your soul to Jesus. Ask Jesus to forgive U, change U, set U free, and lead U. This life is jus temporary but Heaven and Hell is forever. Those who reject Jesus, rebel against Jesus, and refuse to Chang for Jesus will burn in Hell. Those who truly Love Jesus, truly follow Jesus, and truly work for Jesus will enter into Heaven. Don't follow the world follow Jesus.
