Treating for Black Beard Algae (BBA) with Peroxide or Excel

- Have a case of black beard algae on my hand so I figured I would go through the process of how to spot treat black beard algae with Hydrogen Peroxide and Excel. Both are great methods that gave me positive results.
Note: I do not recommend using this on any mosses and as always be sure to monitor your plants and fish for any odd changes.

Great video. I always appreciate the elements of humor you add. I've never had black beard algae, but I like the look of it. I wish some would grow on my rocks and driftwood.
I always try to have a little fun with it so thanks. Yea algae is kind of cool in my opinion as long as it doesnt get out of hand, I have no clue how to grow it though. Most people seem to think its cause by an imbalance of CO2 but I have no scientific way of knowing. As always thanks for watching bud.
great movie
Thanks! Finally, a video that shows what everyone is talking about! Hope your doing well!
😂 thanks. Yea we here a lot of the talk but not many people show the results. Another RUclipsr that usually shows results is @girl talks fish. I don’t watch as often nowadays but she has some great videos that are worth the watch.
Great "How To" video with results. Thanks for putting it together. Now I'll have to try the spot treatment with peroxide.
Thanks Lumpy. Yea I think it will work but be cautious of overdoing it because you can melt your plants like Rae said in the comments section here.
I not only had BBA, but Cyanobacteria and Planaria galore.
So I moved my fish to a bigger tank, did a big wc and added a generous amount of H2O2 over the course of about 4 days. That killed off everything in the tank except the plants, which melted a bit (Crypts).
After recycling with snails and bottled bacteria, the tank sparkles and supports 3 Peacock Gudgeon Gobies.
Peroxide doesn't hurt ur fish????
excel works great! i also do that... dosing on the affected area
Yea I was very happy with the results from it. As always thanks for stopping by.
I needed this video 🙌🙌🙌 not all heros wear capes and some of them can't grow beards 🤣
Haha love this comment. I hope it worked out for ya.
Crazy thing about this. I’m watching this on my iPhone and in portrait I can hear fine, landscape the sound cuts out
Thank you...will get right on it.
Stephen John Hall good luck battling the dreaded black beard 👍.
Great vid
Thank you, happy you enjoyed it.
Haha I feel ya on the beard thing, man! 😭
I guess we save money on razor blades at lease 😂
you have a beautiful great tank
Thank you for the kind words.
Do you continue to dose your regular ferts when using the excel to kill the Black beard ?
Sorry for the late reply. Yes I continued to dose my ferts but remember that I was just spot treating and if you are dosing your entire tank there is a different method.
I can't grow a bread either 😆 great tips!
HopArt Studio 😂 I don't think your husband would like that.
Lol so tue ☺️
So with the spray bottle just spray on it
Just spay it, but use caution. One spray per gallon of total tank water volume is a safe level.
Great tips 👍 but here in my country hydrogen peroxide or algae remover are expensive 😂 more expensive than liquid fertilizer 😂 i always lose fighting with bba, after i remove it manually they always growing back & do reverange 😂
Hmmm...thats interesting. Do you have access to a CO2 setup? I have heard of people playing with their CO2 levels to get rid of it. Unfortunately for me a CO2 system is out of my price range at the moment to actually test it myself. Thanks for watching anyway, hopefully next time there will be something a little more helpful for you.
+Aqua Apprentice I never use co2 because that algae came in my mini pond not in planted tank. So I don't use co2. They grow in powerhed & hose. Sometime they grow in pond wall too. But now i already dry it, clean it then makeover that pond. I hope they won't come back 😂
Indra Jaya yes I wouldn't bother dosing CO2 in that either. Ok well I'm still curious what methods are used in your areas.
+Aqua Apprentice yeah some hobbyist here use algae remover too but some low tech hobbyist just remove it manually. Like me who can't buy algae remover because expensive LOL 😂
Is peroxide bad for fish??
When you are just spot treating I definitely wouldn't be overly concerned with it. The amount in comparison to water volume is just not enough to hurt them and I heard peroxide also breaks down rapidly in water. Now if you were doing a whole tank treatment that may be different because pretty much like anything, there is a limit.
Aqua Apprentice. To be in the safe zone i going to take my anubias. Out of my aquarium an treat it an a 10 gallons.. keep up the good work
Yea that works, always better to be safe. Bob Steenfott just lowers his water uses a spray bottle of peroxide to treat and then just refills. You can probably just take the Anubias out, spray it, wait a couple minutes and then return it if you don’t want to go through the trouble.
Just a quick heads up Jason from "Jadren Aquatics" is doing a sticker give away in case you didn't know. You send him your logo and he'll make 2" x 2" sticker for you for free. Very cool idea. He just asks for you to sub, share his video, and if you want throw a few bucks to him via paypal. (this parts optional). Thought you might be interested.
NYGOLD I have been meaning to do that just been really busy as of late. Really appreciate the heads up.
yea dude even I have a better, more manly beard than you.
Damn! I dont know if thats an insult to me or if we should be questioning how much facial hair you have....LOL. Thanks for stopping in and saying hello.
uhmm yea k fine but I wasnt really saying hello, I just came hear to brag about my beard. so yea. ;D
hehehe
That joke was lame
