    Skinny Puppy took Ministry and a very young Trent Reznor under their wing and heavily influenced them, steering them into the industrial sound. Ministry sounded like Depeche Mode before hooking up with the two Kevins (cEvin Key & Nivek Ogre). You can hear the transition from With Sympathy & Twitch to The Land Of Rape and Honey. Al Jourgensen, during that same period, was a big part of the Skinng Puppy album, Rabies.
    This song, Thieves, uses multiple samples from Kubrick's Full Metal Jacket.

    I was on two of the shows on that tour in 1996 (Sphinctour), may be a fool but I think I can see my self in that live video. I was 18 and a had been a Ministry fan for many years. Seeing them live was a life-changing experience!
    Everything recorded by them up to Filth Pig ('96) is worth reacting to!

    Try some Skinny Puppy... as I mentioned to Sori after you did "Daddy" by Korn. By the way, the accent you might hear is a texan accent. Oncle Al is from Texas.

    • @CobyBassett
      @CobyBassett 5 лет назад +2

      Cuban-born, raised in Chicago. The accent you may be picking up on is called "Fake English Accent."

    • @CobyBassett
      @CobyBassett 5 лет назад +1

      ...and yes, Skinny Puppy is a good suggestion. I would love to see Sori's reaction to watching the 'Spasmolytic' video!

      He did use a fake english accent on Ministry's first album.
      Skinny Puppy is the true godfather of this scene. Al Jourgensen is all over the Rabies album. Worlock is a good one. I'd recommend Smothered Hope, Assimilate, Addiction, Chainsaw, Grave Wisdom & First Aid as great introductions to the great Skinny Puppy.

    Note: some of the spoken lines in the song are sampled from the movie Full Metal Jacket. Definitely the “you will not kill” line; I believe the “kill kill kill” chant, “I can’t hear you/I still can’t hear you” lines are from that movie as well.

    I saw them live twice, back to back gigs over two nights in '92. They were amazing, they had an attitude on stage which was unmatched, helped I'm certain in no small part that Al Jourgensson loathed playing live gigs, this band was not about the music so much as they were about the raw attitude. Also its amazing Al did not destroy himself with drugs and over living.

    Industrial is awesome. KMFDM, Ministry, Fear Factory, Nine Inch Nails and in a lesser way I guess My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult. By the way, Ministry is a very Political band. They have always been about the system and government. I can't remember the cd, I think it's Houses of the Mole, but every song was a diss again George Bush. For some more good songs from them check out Stigmata, Breathe, NWO, Just One Fix, Land Of Rape And Honey... Actually me personally I love the albums Land Of Rape & Honey, The Mind is a terrible Thing To Taste and Psalm 69.

    I had hair removed from my head in the pit at their show. Saw Helmet, Sepultura, and Ministry tour back in 92. I was about as close to pure kinetic energy as I could ever be when I was in a pit. Used to hit Denny's in Issaquah Wa. after most shows we went to in Seattle like that one. I would order an orange juice, apple juice, grapefruit juice, tomato juice, and a water just to recover. I would come out of those shows soaked in sweat

    Ministry, at its height, was basically two people Al Jourgensson (the lead singer) and Paul Barker (one of the guitarists). You may also want to chase down the rabbit hole of the band Lard - mainly Al Jorgensson, Paul Barker and Jello Biafra. More punk than metal sound, but some really nuts protest songs - The Power of Lard, War Pimp Renaissance, I Wanna Be Drug Sniffing Dog and the epicly titled Peeling Back the Foreskin of Liberty.

      Paul played bass. Mike Scaccia was the guitarist who really took them to their prime along with Bill Rieflin on drums and a major song writer for the band.

    Ministry did some killer albums, English band Killing Joke (formed in 1979) are sometimes called grandfathers of industrial metal and influenced Ministry a lot, Paul Raven, Killing Joke´s bass player actually later joined Ministry for few years and played with them on 2-3 albums and toured with them along with his Killing Joke duties until his untimely death in 2007.
