One of the things I find cool about the fireside debates, and just fair public debates in general, is that it doesn't matter about convincing the other person anything, or even both sides learning from each other, but rather that the audience learns. The true beneficiary of a public debate is the audience who hears it. Typically if someone is debating publicly their mind is already set, so ending on an agreement is rare if you only look at the debaters. But to any listeners who don't yet have a strong opinion, there's not really a better way to form one than to hear multiple sides and opinions debating openly. In a public debate often the goal isn't to convince who you're debating with, but to convince those listening to the debate. Which makes them incredibly interesting to hear, and usually very helpful on issues we're unsure of.

I always find its less about changing minds and more about changing hearts. IE oftentimes its easy to dehumanize an issue if we feel strongly about it. However if you have a spirited debate or hear a spirited but respectful debate it humanizes the issue for you, and you are at least more open to what the other side is saying, even if you don't agree.
I'll use Leah as an example. Leah is one of my favorite people here. I completely and strongly disagree with her about Trump and we go back and forth about it all the time. But because I've gotten to know her, its really tempered my strong feelings towards Trump supporters, who I might otherwise discount their opinions out of hand. I think in general these debates have been massively beneficial to me which is why I am depressed whenever I happen to miss one. Its not so much watching the replay, I mean thats helpful to. But its the conversations in the chat where I tend to learn the most.

I don’t understand why Septicflesh isn’t more popular?..they use a real orchestra and the guitar player trained in writing classical music and he writes and arranges all of it...i always felt this band is very under appreciated. Their first few albums were ok but, not nearly as good as the “second” half of their catalog. Band is from Greece and i forget what country the orchestra is from Czech Republic..Netherlands?

    • @kuroinamida4630

For the first part, I agree. SF should be much more popular, one the best Symphonic Death Metal Bands out there but I also think the Orchestra Part is what "scares" of many Ppl, since its also very "mighty" on some songs which prolly isn't everyones cup of tea. For the Second Part, i kinda agree. I really love the albums they released since 2005, so Communion to Codex Omega but i really started to love this Band after i realized they put out Albums before Communion. I think ALL they've released is great, the stuff before the break is a bit different with the Gothic-esque Vibe that kinda went missing completely after Communion. But yeah, SepticFlesh should be more known to the World, such a unique, talented Band deserves attention

AtheismKilledTheCat they aren’t that popular especially here in the U.S., when i saw them 3 yrs ago in Cleveland there were maybe 200 people there. Might sell more albums in Europe?..I understand your comment..you don’t like them. Basically if more than a few hundred people like the band you consider them “too popular” for your liking. Yeah i know there are people like you who like to find out a band before they’re signed to a label so you can brag that you knew of them when there was like 4 people at their show..and then when they do sign to a label, they’ve become “too popular”....😭..they suck now!

THE SEPTICFLESH GUY HAS MADE IT! I can remember seeing him, as early as the time I started posting the "annihilation of the wicked" comments...
And now, he got you to listen to my favorite band of all time. You heard them once, but "lovecraft's death" is far from their best example.
Codex Omega could be their best album yet, but to me, it's still Sumerian Daemons.
What is the most special about them, is that they do *everything* on their own:
    1. Seth, the singer, studied fine arts. So he create all the art and designs for the band: Album covers, picture and all. Btw, you can order an art piece from him for 300 dollars. He already did covers for a few bands.
    2. Christos (His brother), studdied composition. So he wrote all the orchestral part by himself. This is something many "symphonic" bands can't say about themselves. Unlike SF, they have to request the orchestra to write their parts for them. But thanks to Christos, the symphony is septicflesh is all original.
    3. When it comes to lyrics, it mainly falls of Sotiris.
Now, this is not a satanic band at all. They describe their material as "universal creation, dark art". Well, something like that lol
At first, they were Septic Flesh. They took a break at one point (In which Christos and Seth went to study), and came back as Septicflesh. They were very different before the reunion. More Gothic at parts, more like very early Therion. They didn't have a big company behind them for many years... But their "newer" albums changed that.
They are one of the most unique and most talented bands of all time.
I will suggest you to listen to some of their older works too, like "Virtues of the Beast" (My favorite song song all time), "Mechanical Babylon", "Science", "The Ophidian Wheel", "Ice Castle"... And some more of the "newer": "Communion", "Anubis", "Pyramid God", "The great mass", "Prototype" and of course, "Dark Art" (Which is probably their best song eve, if you judge honestly).
If I have to rank my 5 favorite album (Difficult because I place all of them on high regards), they will be:
    1. Sumerian Daemons.
    2. Codex Omega (Should be number one. Their best work to date. But Sumerian Daemons is just more special to me).
    3. Communion (That is the first album after they reunited and a big game changer).
    4. The Orphidian Wheel.
    5. The Great Mass.

@@VinAndSori Cheers mates. Yes, they were one of my favorite since 2005. Then I checked their earlier albums and with time, it was clear to me that overall, they represent the purest image of metal: In talent, creativity, the way they talk and how they perform on stage.
Many bands are spotless live and do everything perfectly. Speticflesh does just that, BUT, they define metal. Which means that to them, blasting energy out is more important than singing everything accurately. Seth has 3 sentences he says all the time (Which some people hate), instead of actually singing... But that works, because he is living the music, instead of just performing it.
You don't see just a live band when they play, you see you friends playing your favorite songs. If that makes any sense lol

I have been i security for a guy named Kayne West , and a lot of other bands..my point was that i prefer to work with the metal scene, the audience and the artist is in my opinion much nicer, more easy to come along with, even if the music i hard. If you have to deal with some freak in the audience, then they obey and behave, if you working with a more not metal band ..then you often have to take the freak and tell him or her to leave. The music may be harder, blood on stage and stuff like that, but if you tell them...you can't do that for security reasons , they obey. And yes there are many nice not metal band to. Awesome, awesome song. I've heard a bunch of stuff from Septic Flesh so I know how good they are, but I had never heard this one. 10/10 for me. Love the orchestration and use of middle eastern melodies. Crafting a song of this quality is no easy task.
When are you guys gonna learn that views mean NOTHING in regards to quality. Nothing. You are going to find as time goes on that some of the most unique, groundbreaking and amazing bands you will hear may have less than 100,000k views on their songs. For example, the Vektor song you guys did. The album version (the most viewed) has only 108k views. From a band that was selected as one of the top 10 albums of the year (in 2016) from NPR. Meanwhile Limp Bizkit probably has 20 million views. Quality over quantity my dudes.
Vin's absolutely right. I think its applies to any group thing like going to a basketball or football game. But because of how powerful music is, a concert is one of the most exhilirating experiences. Even going to the theater to see a movie. But at a concert more so than anything else you are interacting with like minded people. There is a shared bond that transcends race, politics etc. Conventions are like concerts to for these reasons, wether it be for anime, gaming or comics. Shared passions create strong bonds even amongst people you don't really know.
Here is the issue with the media. The issue is that most people don't consume a cross section of media. They have one channel they stick to. The problem is that journalists are people. They can try to report without bias, but the bias comes through. Maybe thats the solution for AI in the future. If we develop AI, they can report the news without bias. But we HAVE to stop demonizing the media at large, otherwise we are going to wind up in a situation where mail bombs will be sent and no one will care. Or journalists will be dismembered and no one will care. As much as I hate to do it I have to force myself occasionally to watch Fox News just to see their inherent bias, because it makes the bias of a CNN more obvious.
Sori's Bible College sounds more like a cult to be honest. I'm glad we have (mostly) deprogrammed her hehe.
I really felt for Sori when she got emotional about how that experience had driven people away from the church. Because I think that is what kind of oppressiveness will do. I can't relate from a Christian perspective, but I saw alot of that in Catholic schools when I was growing up. And it took me many many years before I moved away from being a agnostic/atheist to being a Deist.

Septicflesh are from Greece, they started with Doom and now it's like Death combinated with sinfonic.
If you want something different, do more bands from Europe, there's a whole different world compare with the bands of USA.
Also, please consider Abiogenesis - Visualize... An amazing wall of sound.

You two are fun to listen to, loved your reactions (Portrait of a Headless Man is an apex predator, very powerful, a lot of people ADORE the epic aspect of this song) - loved to see that you two enjoyed it as well! This band has the talent and ability to really bring people together in the sense, as do many other artists, but Septicflesh certainly does have something extra, something special.
The way you guys explored and deciphered their lyrics is fun, everyone could potentially get a different meaning from each song. Isn't it great how music can motivate its listening to engage in open discussions about things that really matter? Badass. And you're absolutely correct, hearing them live is a real trip - they're amazing and full of energy. Visceral performers.
Thanks for the entertainment and thoughts. Please listen to them more! The band is finally gaining a little more popularity, and they absolutely deserve it.

I really love your channel. I want to thank you for doing the types of videos that you do. I love how you break down the meanings and really give an understanding to the music. You really are a breath of fresh air. I grew up in the "Bible Belt" in southeastern Oklahoma. I remember the Satanic Panic of the 80's that spilled over into the 90's as well. LOL It was actually the church that got me into metal. I know that sounds crazy, but in one of the seminars called "the devils playground" they were talking about Ozzy Osborn's Bark at the Moon and how evil it was. As soon as I heard it, I was hooked. I have been listening since I was 12 and I even had to hide the tapes that I copied from friends. When I was finally able to be what I was, I was called a Satanist. On a couple of occasions, my friend's parents removed them from school to get them to stop hanging around me simply because I listened to heavy metal. As I reached 15 and 16 I started listening to Cannibal Corpse, Dismember, Benediction, Bolt Thrower, and many others. I would even wear the T shirts of my favorite bands to school. The music and the shirts helped me more than I knew at the time. I was badly picked on as a kid…More than just the usual assault. Once I started wearing Slayer and Cannibal Corpse shirts, I was left alone. No one bothered to pick on me at that point, however the rumors and accusations of being a Satanist were still there. As the years went on, I started to ask questions about what I had been told as a child growing up in the church. I found out you were not supposed to ask questions when living in a place like that. As I reached my mid 30's, I became an Atheist. I remember the songs and how they were tying to make up their own meanings to what the lyrics meant. In one instance they were talking about Highway to Hell from AC/DC…It is not about what they told me was about. I started to think that if they could not understand something as simple as song lyrics, how could they possibly understand something as complex as the Bible. Again, thank you for your videos. I have been subbed for a little while and I very happy that I did…Also, if you get a chance, check out Rotten Sky. Their self titled album is pretty awesome!

John Campbell - I first got into extreme music when I was a teenager thanks to a "Christian" radio host Bob Larson! Bob would play bands like Deicide andMorbid Angel on his broadcast to show everyone how evil it was, but it just made me more interested instead. Now I'm more of an Agnostic/Atheist due to the problems I found in the Bible.

I am a recent fan of SF. Especially as a result of listening to their last four albums. Codex Omega basically baptised me into the incredible artistry that is SF. 12 minutes into this video, both Vin and Sori just about mentioning every thought that I had after listening to POAHM and reading the lyrics thrice over. While most music is 100% subjective in interpretation, Vin and Sori offer an opportunity to experience a communion of realizations and impressions alongside them. I used to get emotional over coincidences like this. Instead, there is a much deeper appreciation brewing within the reality that people are waking up to the ugly realities around us, especially when a band like SF expresses their musical mastery to the world. At the same time, when more of us really listen to the lyrics of true artists like SF, many an epiphany is bound occur and a human ripple effect of response might ensue and our world can possibly unify, at some point. Until it does, I am thrilled to listen to artists like Rotting Christ, SF, Dimmu, Devilment, etc. and rock out in the church of music with all of you!
