      I have a friend who’s little sisters name I’ve been saying for years but always trips me up when I’m reading it because it’s spelt Sabhvn or something and suddenly I can’t pronounce it

    As the Irish language only has 19 characters anytime you see a h with a consonant before it is pronounced as V. Niamh = Neve, Caoimhín = Keeveen/Qweevin, Siobhán = Shivon

      We actually pronounce it more like *KWEEVA* never heard it without the W.
      Eabha should be pronounced *AYVA*
      No one pronounced it *AVA*, sometimes people say *EEVA*
      Not sure where in Northern Ireland Hes from but the rest of the country doesn’t say that. Quite strange feels like he’s messing it up too.

    I feel so good that a native of English language can’t get the NI accent either!!😂😂 English is my second language and I felt terrible how little I understood when I first moved to Belfast. 8 months in I was picking up the accent myself😂😂Love you people of Belfast..you guys welcomed me well❤️😭

    My sisters longtime boyfriend is Nodern Irish. (We are dutch) They are trying to find a name that's Irish, had a nice meaning, is not to confusing for dutch pr friends and stuff, AND sounds nice to both of them.
    It's been 8 months and they still haven't found one😂

    These are just Irish name's not Northern Irish. Caoimhe is an Irish girl's name the same with Saoirse and Aoife. Niamh is another familiar one where mh is pronounced V.

      Yeah everyone knows pop / soda, thats not a regional thing like people like to make it out to be. People 60+ refer to all soft drinks as coke in the south, never heard anyone younger than that do it

      Its funny but even we Americans are considered to have an accent also, because in a different country we don't sound like the locals.😄👍I learned that from a man with a southern accent in Tennessee 😁

    In some languages, two consonants put together will sound different than they look. Spanish is a good example where two lowercase L's put together are pronounced like a 'y', like tortilla. It's pronounced tor-te-ya. You don't see the y, but that's how it's pronounced.
