@@yaukerI think I might have an interesting perspective, just because I’m a “retired” rapper (hiatus?) who, now in my adult years, prefers rock as a genre. I bought both Get Rich or Die Trying and Fallen in 2003, and loved them both probably equally.
Now, in my 30s, hearing both albums within the last month - my coworker plays GRODT often, and I just downloaded Fallen a weeks ago to my IPad, so I hear it almost everyday - 50’s album is the better work of music.
Obviously, it comes down to preference or taste in music and upbringing, but the first half of Fallen was a masterpiece, and then the second half was like meh, whatever. It became radio-friendly, Goth-influenced nu metal. Fallen was a very good album, altogether, but it wasn’t Jagged Little Pill or Meteora.

As someone who listens to both Rock and HipHop, Evanescence had an awesome debut album as well. And it was also super popular internationally! They both deserved it, my opinion is that 50 deserved it more. I guess the pendulum swung in Evanescence’s favour that day.

I can see why 50 loss to Evanescence, which is a band with members who actually play instruments and sings. If we're talking technical merits, Evanescence trumps 50 , because he just raps, he doesn't play any instruments and I think singing requires more technical skill than rapping.

Man i grew up on both. I actually kinda think Evanescence was the bigger talent. Remember Evanescence was an actual band playing instruments and singing in tune. 50 is a great rapper and that his debut was amazing but talent wise it was probably a little harder to make the Evanescence sound which is to this day a pretty unique sound.
