Grandpa's Deer Stand. A comfortable spot for Grandpa or anyone else to sit when its cold.

- Grandpa always wanted to put up a stand in this nice ridge of trees overlooking the swamp. The area has deer trails and a great view. The stand is 4 feet by 6 feet and is 6 and a half feet tall. Big enough so a person can stand up and stretch when sitting inside. The chair is a directors style chair, it is the exact type that he used during duck hunting. Grandpa said it was a nice height and had good support. Also inside a Buddy Heater. Grandpa (and me also ) get pretty chilly sitting in the deer stand. The heater will be a nice addition on the cold windy days. The windows have plywood covers that slide up and down to keep out rain, leaves, pine needles, and also on a windy day it will keep the wind out. Next year we plan on staining, painting, or possibly installing some green tin to the outside to weather proof it. Hopefully this stand holds strong and is a nice warm spot for anyone that wants to use it. The longer "Deer Stand Weekend" video is being edited now. Stay tuned.

It’s more of a wind barrier than a warm quilted blind. Which makes it a lot lighter than our quilted blind. I enjoyed the larger windows/openings. Made for a successful season. It has held up well for the first season and the stitching looks good.

It’s awesome y’all built him a nice stand but go one step farther this year, sit in it with him on a hunt and let him tell you some stories, let him know how much he means to y’all. As a grandfather myself, I hope one day my son and grandson build me a stand like this too and I’d like for them to come sit with me and spend the day talking.

I don’t know if you’ve considered it, and maybe I’m just too much of a softy- but, on our stands we’ve always made tracks with little wood strips against the outside of the walls- and slid pieces of lexan panel in them, to slide shut over the window openings in windy weather. Deer can come from anywhere, I suppose, and that’s why you wouldn’t want them shut. But, keeping out the 10 degree wind on a chilly day helps me have more fun during deer season, as I usually only have my rifle aimed out whatever side the deer frequent the most. 🙂 great deer stand for grandpa, Zach!!

Built my dad an 8' x 8' x 8' hunting blind on 10' platform decades ago. When he got too old to climb, we put the blind on a double axle trailer. Made some improvements to it, then would place it where he wanted. That thing is solid.

I'm 75 and my son and son-in-law built me a platform stand two years ago. Just love it. Has kept me warm and I got a nice buck each year from the stand. No question that it has extended the number of deer seasons that I'll be hunting, my favorite outdoor activity.

Get grandpa to cut up some of his fancy willow or similar squiggly wood pieces to fasten on the corners as trim and some camo tarp, then it'll blend right in. 😃

If you don't want to do plexiglass windows... you can also get a clear shower curtain cut into strips and over lap some to knock off some wind keep up with pushpins. But yeah 2 bypass pieces of plexi would be great. Also my dad had hip replacement and though that is a great seat he really needs a good cushion on that. Maybe one of those body heat ones cause that METAL joint gets cold in bad weather. Best vid you have ever put out Zach.... keep them coming.

Joe you have to get your Dad a nice comfy office chair. It adds to the hunting experience. Many great hunters have succumbed to the heavy eye lid syndrome while in the office chair. Let me know if you beat this syndrome while using the chair.

@@CrimeVid I bought mine off Kijiji for $20.00 it was used, probably in the $250.00 area brand new. No squeaks but so comfortable. If it squeaks oil is your friend.
