I discovered Skinny Puppy in the early 80's. They hadn't yet released an album; and CFNY Toronto did a show on the new sounds from Vancouver. They only played a clip, but it hooked me. Like you, I found their music beautiful. It really connected with me. I honestly never even considered the lyrics until Testure came out. I just absorbed the vocals as another instrument. I loved how they would mix old Twilight Zone, or Bugs Bunny clips into the songs. Chainsaw remains my favourite song, but there are so many that are close to it. Absolute musical geniuses... all of them (and there were many).
I agree. Even though not every song was a hit on the target, for me at least, they will always be the absolute best when it comes to electro-industrial music in my opinion. The only band I've seen that when their set is done it's never enough.
I lived across the street from Sunken Garden in San Antonio Tx. When I was 14 I snuck into this show and was the best thing I ever exp live. I was super small kid and fans helped me get to the front. Watching Ogre up close yelling at me was so amazing, helped me through my childhood depression. Love you SPup🤍
NitzerEbb - Fun To Be Had! Killing Mother Fucking Depeche Mode! I have every single album mention and all of Front 242. I like your taste. Let's not forget Revolting Cocks!
So underrated. So ahead of their time. They created the dark wave industrial sound in the late 80s and early 90s that paved the way for many industrial bands.
I saw them for the first time as a teen during this tour. Best show I’ve ever seen. Then saw them last year April 25, 2023 in Montreal for the last time. They’ve honestly changed my life.
Dude, Al Jourgensen and Skinny Puppy ….and industrial music in general was absolutely at peak creativity and skill around the late 80s…god I wish I would’ve been older than 7 in 89
Skinny Puppy is that rare very Unique band that is beyond comprehension for many. The layers they have intertwined with cryptic lyrics it scares people. Back in 1992 I played the entire Too Dark Park album on vinyl, a girl dropped acid and during Shore Line Poison she tried to stab the tv which had A Clockwork Orange on.
Skinny Puppy are one of the greatest bands on this planet ever. Would be so nice if the video contained what they really played and sang that night instead of a studio recording.
It's both...and not at all uncommon for this genre, in the 80's it was called playing to tape, the drummer actually has a click track. The vocals are mixed.
I get it all in this thread. SP is AMAZING live! Such clean audio. If this is an amalgam of live and studio, it was well coordinated. Although live, they can stand on their own merit, even without the "absent friend."😪😪
I keep coming back to this for inspiration. The words ring so true today for those that can discern them. Ogre is prophetic here, the words come to fruition now, even as we sleep.
Saw these guys quite a bit in the 80's, had to drive down to Watertown,Syracuse, New york to see them. Seen them at CBGB's once with the Dead Milkmen. Pioneers of Industrial EDM. Fun stuff to drum to. Had a few drinks after the show, they were pretty genuine nice guys.
I had the chance at 19 yrs old to witness the Greater Wrong of the Right tour live in STL and I freakin' blew it. Still rippin' on myself to this day over it.
To have seen them in chicago 1988 Cleanse fold tour and in 1990 Too dark prk. Miami in 1992 for Last rights was another experience all together. They always seem to get evolved in a good way. I will play records of any of their albums and anyone who truelly listens to music is amazed of how great SP is with textures and the lyrics that take time to understand some times. Greater wrong of the Right was worh waiting to see them in Ft. Lauderdale and Atlanta. Been a fan since 1985

I think it'd about the alienating and borderline sociopathic nature of modern life. A person ends up binging or abusing substances and other life forms such as dogs because they want to satisfy their own needs and wants first and are selfish. It's a musing on being more than an abusive addicted consumer. He says that to rebel you have to have your eyes wide open to the cruel view, remember than you are watched and not to speak softly as it changes nothing. I think it's fucking amazing stream of consciousness lines
Might as well say that Dwayne Goettel played on this version, because he really did. Maybe not live, but a huge part of the song here is the backing tape.
