One of my professors has received many accolades from multiple schools and facilities for his contribution in biomedical engineering and academic leadership... And has won a couple ultramarathons.
Another professor is a consultant in the biotech industry and trains/is bedt friends with his cockatiel.
There is nothing wrong with people in STEM exploring eclectic interests outside their field.
I think the biggest takeaway is: if you have a curiosity for something, explore it. Without judgement.
