The local Rugby team is at the bottom of the hill to catch the lunatics. First to the bottom wins the cheese. Simplest sport ever created. Love your videos my dudes! Love from Wales.
My friends, this is a piece of British madness: you are quite right to be shocked. This has been done for about 200 years, and people are regularly injured (not greatly) every time. It takes place at Cooper's Hill near Gloucester (you guys in the States please forget the spelling of this City - just say "gloss-ter") The rolled cheese can reach a speed of 70mph. British madness my friends!
I lived at the bottom of that hill and grew up watching this!!!! Incredible event so fun to watch!!! Love they changed the time of the run to stop people getting drunk in the pub before doing it at 6pm!!!! 😂. Makes me proud to be British!!!! 😂
“They sell it in most grocery stores” 🤣 Haven’t you guys worked out that the U.K. is utterly bonkers yet? Watch Bohemian Rhapsody sung by the crowd in London at Green Day concert.
I’m in one of those clips 😁 Where you froze it talking about the guy in the speedos, I’m in the black and yellow rugby shirt in the middle of the hill. Not the best run, but I’m pleased just to have given it a go, and my shoulder injury cleared up after only a few months 😁
Respect - I spectated one year and the thuds and crunching noises as they came down the hill and reached the stoppers at the bottom put me right off competing!
From the top of Cooper's Hill in Gloucestershire, a 9 lb round of Double Gloucester cheese is rolled, and competitors race down the hill to catch it. The first person over the finish line at the bottom of the hill wins the cheese. This isn't as easy as it sounds as the cheese has been known to reach speeds of 70mph!
YOU FOUND THE CHEESE !!! I'm so proud of you boys !!!!!! lol This has been taking place on coopers Hill in Gloucestershire for hundreds of years !! And of course, its a double Gloucester cheese for the winner !!!
@The Source Networker 3 6 9 Haha !! No chance ! I can't afford to pop a hip !!! But to be absolutely honest if I lived near where it is held, yep, I probably would !!! There are lots of these dangerous old traditions around the country, I can think of a giant football match in a town where there are no rules and a race where you have to carry a barrel thats on fire in Devon off the top of my head !!
I have partaken in the cheese run. I very nearly broke my neck rolling down that f-ing hill. Even though it was very fun at the time, I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. My whole body ached for weeks afterwards.
My family used to live on the hill. We'd regularly take walks up and it is so much steeper than it looks. These guys are crazy! What a glorious sport haha
Guys...your reaction to this was priceless..im still laughing...funny you mentioned 'kegs'..i live in a small town called Ottery St Mary in East Devon, home of the famous Flaming Tar Barrels..on the 5th November each year tarred barrels (wooden kegs) are lit,and carried around various parts of town.Starts at 4pm with the kids barrels (i believe they start at 7 years old!) and continues 'til midnight with the 'big daddy' barrel being lit...completely bonkers and could easily be paired with the Cheese Rolling..you gotta check it out (there's a few on yt, The Telegraph one will give you the best idea of what it's about i think)...us Brits eh?.. keep up the good work chaps..Ken
I also live 13 miles away 😀 I would also recommend the tar barrel rolling reaction. Absolutely mad and so so dangerous. And most of it done at night where people have had a drink or 10 😂
Yay! Appreciate how quick you guys were to film a reaction to this! I knew you'd like it but it was a joy to see you both actually loving it! 😆 I was giggling (OK... full out laughing) at your confusion, knowing what was about to happen 🤣 This one might just be my favourite reaction from you guys yet! It's definitely my favourite cheese rolling reaction (and I've watched a lot) 😆 Also, you mentioned a keg... but nah, we don't need to roll them down a hill - a UK town already has a barrel tradition!! Search for "Ottery St Mary's tar barrels" :P (though it's not as great as cheese rolling imo, but then what is? Lol). Much love 💙

Try watching The Ba' which is held in Kirkwall, Orkney Islands on the 1st Jan each year. It's a bit like rugby, but takes place through the town streets with few rules and hundreds of people taking part on each side.
I heard somewhere the cheese reaches some impressive speeds on the way down, also they have the local rugby team at the bottom rather than hay bales. It happens in England
The cheese used in the event is Double Gloucester (weighing 7 to 9 pounds); it is a hard cheese traditionally made in a circular shape. The slope is about 300 yards long, averaging 4 degrees

This and the Atherstone Ball game are why we have a National Health Service in the UK as the competitors would be bankrupted by treatment in a US style system.
Been binge watching your reaction videos and they are so much fun. Your openness to embrace events from around the world, and shock at just how rough and out there some of these things are, followed by a desire to go and experience watching (or partaking sometimes) first hand, it's magical! This format would work so well with a decent production budget behind it. As a Netflix or Prime series with you doing exactly what you do now (watch and react to some curated clips/videos), but then have a camera crew follow you as you travel to experience the real thing!
There's another event you might be interested in that takes place at a couple of towns on the south coast (Worthing and Bognor): The International Birdman Competition. There's a prize of £25,000 ($40,000-ish) for anyone who can throw themselves off a pier and travel 100 metres, wings are allowed but no motors. Fancy your chances?
so netflix had a series where they explored so weird sports arround the world. cheese rolling was featured and was a great representation of it. also nearer to me there is shrovetide football which is 36 hours long and the goals are 3 miles apart and it takes over the town.

I have stood at the top of that hill but decided to go and drink a beer instead of throwing myself down after a lump of cheese. and now of course you've got watch the crazy dudes who surf up the river in the same city
Yeh, we also have Mob Football (Soccer) played in Ashbourne, the match is played through the town and each side isn't limited to the number of players, usually its 100 v 100. Play starts at 2pm and ends at 10pm on each day. Besides the rule that prohibits murder and manslaughter, other rules enforced are: use of motor vehicles are prohibited, the ball cannot be hidden while it is being carried, and the course cannot lead through cemeteries or town memorial gardens. Unlike traditional matches, both teams try to move the ball towards their own goal. A goal is scored by tapping the ball three times on the team's own designated goal area.
Britain is full of mad games like this. Bog snorkling/Mountain bike bog snorkling; greasy pole; the Knaresborough bed race; the Bognor Birdman contest and so on.
Tar barrelling in Ottery St Mary, Devon. Utterly mental. Was there the night the burger van went up. Huge cheers when it's gas canisters exploded. Basically blokes from the town carry burning barrels while running as fast as they can through the town. In the afternoon, when it's a lot quieter they have the juniors. Kids seven upward have kiddy sized burning barrels to run with. It's so packed for the evening best way to get from a to b is to follow the ambulance.
The coopers Hill Cheese-Rolling and Wake is an annual event held on the Spring Bank Holiday at Cooper's Hill, near Gloucester in England. Participants race down the 200-yard-long hill after a round of Double Gloucester cheese is sent rolling down it. The event was traditionally held by and for the people who live in the local village of Brockworth, but now people from all over the world take part. The Guardian called it a "world-famous event", with winners coming from Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and Nepal. From the top of the hill, a 7-9 pounds (3-4 kilograms) round of Double Gloucester cheese is sent rolling down the hill, which is a length of 200 yards. Competitors then start racing down the hill after the cheese. The first person over the finish line at the bottom of the hill wins the cheese. The competitors are aiming to catch the cheese; however, it has around a one-second head start and can reach speeds up to 70 miles per hour (110 kilometres per hour),[3] enough to knock over and injure a spectator. In the 2013 competition, a foam replica replaced the cheese for reasons of safety. The winner was given the prize of an actual cheese after the competition. The Cheese Rollers pub in the nearby village of Shurdington, about 3 miles (5 kilometres) from Cooper's Hill, takes its name from the event. The nearest pubs to the event are The Cross Hands and The Victoria, both of which are in Brockworth, which competitors frequent for some pre-event Dutch courage or discussion of tactics and after the event for convalescence.

My Wife is From Stroud, just down the road, and when you are going south on the M5 motorway, you can see the patch on the hill. BTW try bog snorkling or shin kicking.
Health and Safety tried to stop this sport but alas they were told where to stick the idea. Still happens every year great fun. The cheese is pretty big though.
The cheese is Gloucester , which is where the rolling is done , a place called Coopers Hill , Gloucestershire .Love your channel by the way , one of the best on air , I'm usually laughing along with you .🇬🇧

So, yes, they roll a cheese for every race. and as far as I know the first person down the hill wins the cheese. They also have kids races, but the kids have to go UP the hill instead. There are injuries, including broken bones, but not as many as you would think!

If you REALLY want to go down that route.. check out Haxey Hood and Ottery St Mary Tar Barrels
There is a much tamer version held in Belfast Maine as part of the Maine Celtic Celebration
Well, here in Scotland we have the ultimate sport...... javelin catching. It's piss easy to throw a javelin, but catching it takes it to another level
You should check out Otter tar barrels, a tradition in Ottery St Mary UK for 100s of years and completely crazy and very dangerous!
I love you guys, keep up the good work. If you're ever in the UK I'll do this with you. If you liked this sport we have so much more here. Look up Shin Kicking (it's literally just that) and there's an event in Cornwall (I think) where guys run through the village with a flaming beer keg on their shoulders.
I often drive past that hill and that video makes the slope look a lot gentler than it actually is.
Yes you get the cheese. being Polish and living in England for a long while now this is on a bucket list.
Love your Hillbilly downhill Barbie truck racing you have in the States .
Bog swimming is pretty entertaining as well .😂🇬🇧❤️🇺🇸
Tar Barrels of Ottery St. Mary
This is specific to this one town- I forget the name. It's only this one town in the UK, specific to that hill, and that type of cheese etc. There's this one chick that won it like 3 or 4 times or something
You know it's bad when there is a Rugby team at the bottom to catch the participants.
There's a St John's Ambulance, the female winner has a permanent broken shoukder.
Been going for Centuries. Double Gloucester and it goes at over 60 mph. Not sure if anyone has ever caught it
The UK has many customs and traditions that have been around for decades or even centuries, the cheese rolling contest in Gloucestershire is one of them
There is no honour in buying cheese from a shop. You must chase it down a hill.
Favourite cheese is:- Stinking Bishop! Yes, it is a cheese! It smells of old rotting football socks but tastes gorgeous, just don't keep it in the fridge as it will stink everything else out!
Just shows you how much we love cheese in the UK and the lengths we’d go to to get some...
Where’s the fun in just going to the market when you can risk multiple broken limbs to get it...
