Y’know, I respect wheeler as a player and a person but whenever he plays Woormy, and more specifically Woormy’s Naya list, it feels like I’m watching a child get bullied. Peak content, long may The Brick reign.
Pretty sad and pathetic that members of the Magic community were so vile that WotC felt like they needed to shield people by taking full responsibility for a format away from the community. I have never been so ashamed by association to be a Magic player.
I know the start of this is incredibly serious, but after the Osseous Sticktwister stuck around in that game against Jeskai artifacts I keep thinking "Give 'em the old Stick-twist."
Honestly, as a newer player, I’m both upset by the change and deeply, deeply upset with the jerks who caused this change to begin with. That being said, I’m trying to make the jump to canlander/gladiator anyway. Thanks for your based takes as always!
Although I'm similarly optimistic about the future of commander, I've realized that it is most definitely not at all how I want to interact with MTG anymore. I've already stopped going to LGS commander nights for awhile now, but I'm also in the process of breaking down my cEDH decks to transition to canlander. Besides the very large, main canlander discord, does anyone know of a hub for smaller communities that I could check out? Or like a forum or something? Hell, I'll take an IRC over a thousand-odd people discord server.
You say at 30:45 that unbanning the cards from the recent ban sends the message that death threats work, but I think that message has already been sent by the dissolution of the rc. The goal of the harassment was to punish the rc for making the bans, and try to get those cards unbanned, disolving the rc already moves towards getting the cards unbanned and restructuring commander around these power tiers likely achieves a similar thing as unbanning the banned cards only for cedh. Those wanting the cards unbanned weren't even a majority, their opinion was simply the loudest, and by being the most threatining, vicious and frankly evil they were able to make their voices heard louder than those of the broader community. It makes me sad to see that bullying has worked. I feel embarassed to be a magic player and sad for the future of the game, the reality that edh as a community driven format was torn apart by its own community is heartbreaking.
Because gladiator decks are designed for 1v1 20 life play, and we don’t have all the cards in magic, it’ll be different from how you’d design a commander deck. You could absolutely use this as a starting point if you like it though 🙂
The recent news with the rc is horrible, but not something i find myself being the least bit suprised about. Which honestly, really doesn't feel good. I've found myself disillusioned with wotc run magic and the company in general for such a long time at this point, and i honestly just feel that for any amount of faith you put in a company like that, it is inevitable that faith will be betrayed at some point. For the past six months or so i've taken up custom card design, and being able to engage in the game in such a way where i am able to take charge over it's design has been something i have found very empowering, whereas beforehand i have only felt utterly disempowered by the ways i have had to engage with the game. I genuinely think if we want this game and it's history and community to continue to exist in any meaningful capacity then wotc cannot have any part in that vision. Every major issue that magic has (quite literaly every one) can be traced back to it being tied to a for profit corporation. But yeah, bottom line i just hope everyone effected by this gets the support they need under the circuimstances.

might be a silly question, but could I take this deck and add a commander and play it that way or would it not work well?
